Page, ein klitzekleines Nest in Arizona, welches jedoch eine Menge zu bieten hat. Ich habe davon heute drei Dinge erlebt: den berühmten Blick auf Horseshoe Bend, den hufeisenförmigen Abschnitt des Colorado River, welcher sich im Glen Canyon ein Stück hinter dem Glen Canyon Dam befindet. Besagter Damm staut übrigens das Wasser des Lake Powell und den habe ich ebenfalls besucht und bin gegen Abend an der Stelle über den Colorado River rüber nach Utah. Dazwischen war ich bei der Navajo Nation und bin in die Schlucht des Lower Antelope Canyon abgestiegen. Die Buchung bei Ken's Tours - allein kommt man da nicht rein - hatte ich extra auf den frühen Nachmittag gelegt, um besonders gutes Licht da unten zu haben und die berühmten Felsformationen richtig feurig leuchten zu sehen. Der Plan ging prima auf. ❤️ Auch wenn, und das muss man leider sagen, das eine reine Gelddruckmaschine ist und die Touristen da regelrecht durchgeschoben werden... unter zudem allerlei Auflagen. Anyway, ich habe, was ich wollte: dieses Naturschauspiel unbedingt mal mit eigenen Augen sehen. I love you forever ♥️ —— I have been wanting to get into The Wave ever since we moved to AZ. This was the best hike I’ve ever done - not only because of the proposal, but I have never seen anything Iike this before. Photos don’t do justice. There are only 2 ways to get into The Wave. It’s a lottery system so you have to book 4-6 months in advance. The other option is the daily lottery but you have to be within the vicinity because there’s a geofence. They only allow 64 people in The Wave. There’s a 2-3% chance of getting into the daily lottery which means the chances for the lottery are even more slim. Andy has tried applying for the lottery 7 times. We never got in. We took our chances and on our 3 year anniversary, we drove 5.5 hours to stay in Kanab for a week to apply for the daily lottery. We applied for Friday and STILL didn’t get in. Finally, on Saturday, May 11, we got in and it was SO worth it! Andy revealed that he has been banking on getting into the lottery to propose. Happy Friday! So my whirlwind desert adventure is coming to a close. The goal of this trip was to attend the astrophotography workshop, and that goal was accomplished. It's pretty labor intensive to plan and execute, so I don't have a ton of photos to share, but soon I will share my piece de resistance (once I finish tweaking the edit). As you can see here, we had clouds coming in on the second night, and by 3am (prime time for shooting) the clouds were obscuring the Milky Way and most of the sky, so we didn't go out on the second night. During this sunset, I wasn't happy with my photo composition so I panicked, and at the last second I moved my camera to a new location and still wasn't happy with it, so I decided to just enjoy the dusk falling and took an awkward selfie on a rock. Definitely #notaninfluencer 😂😂😂. I still haven't caught up on sleep though and if you saw my previous post and story, you'll know that my rental car broke down and I spent most of last night organizing getting a replacement vehicle which turned out to be a Very Large American Truck. The drama! Anyway, it was an incredible experience to be out in this very special piece of desert. @dreamlandsafari provides an exceptional camping outfit with knowledgeable and enthusiastic/hilarious/knowledgeable/capable guides @kctheclimber and Robert (did I mention they cook all the meals!!??), and @cyorkphoto and Bob (not on the gram) are top notch instructors and super fun to spend time with as well. The witty banter of our whole group had me laughing the entire time, and that made the gusty dusty winds and freezing temperatures more bearable. Zion National Park in Utah yesterday. The scenic drive alone is breathtaking and worth doing. The views don’t feel real, and like the mountains have been cut out of cardboard. Photos really don’t do it justice. Once parked up (which was difficult) and lovely stroll along the river as all the shuttle buses to the main trails where rammed. We thought we’d missed an American national holiday or something this place was so busy! This was in Kanab, UT last summer. Three Class Cs, all flat-towing Jeep Wranglers, parked in a row at Kanab RV Corral campground. Ours on the right--we didn't know the other people to our left, just had a good chuckle that we were all driving similar rigs. Really nice long sites at this place that were so flat we didn't even have to disconnect the Jeeps because we didn't have to level the RVs. I think that might be the first time EVER that we didn't have to do some leveling. This was an overnight stop for us only on this particular trip, but we'd definitely go back! Does Utah’s Great Chamber live up to the hype? 🤔 This spot outside Kanab, UT is one you’ve probably seen all over your IG for years (at least I have). I got a chance to visit last month and I’ll be honest, it actually DID live up to the Insta-hype - at least for me. I visited on an absolutely perfect day - no wind and no crowds and vehicles that were equipped to handle the insane drive out there. Apparently the sandstorms can be so fierce here, it becomes impossible to enter the chamber, let alone see anything. To get here you need an AVT/UTV or a 4x4 with aired-down tires and some good experience navigating off-road through deep sand. Needless to say, this is NOT the road you’re going to bring a rental car on. The “road” in has no signs and about a 100 criss-crossing unmarked dirt roads through this area, some come prepared with a good map, or better yet, go with a guide. I used @Roam.outdoor.adventures and combined this trip with a visit to Peekaboo Slot Canyon (which was the REAL reason I booked TBH!).
