Matchbox Renault 11 (taxi variant). From the "James Bond 007 A View to a Kill" line. Today I want to show you another model that has been in my "most wanted" list for a long time. It represents the blue 1983 Renault 11 Taxi that James Bond destroys while driving through the streets of Paris in the 1985 "007: A View to a Kill" film. Matchbox decided to create a new mold with two variants: the taxi one for the film-related line, and a regular Renault 11 Turbo that was releases later in the 1-75 line. The Taxi variant adds the taxi sign on the roof and has specific body painting in a combination of metallic blue and dark gray (close to the movie car's paint scheme). The mold is fairly well-proportioned. It has no opening parts, but it has a nice working suspension. The only con I can mention is the rim's chrome also covering part of the tires in the unit I got. Scale is 1:56. This is the rarest of the Hawkey series as they only released 3 printings of FromRussiaWithLove. They used ink which commonly faded to the spine, and finding one with a strong spine is very hard. The “Hawkey” series is the only Pan series to feature all 14 James Bond novels. The set was named after graphic designer (and novelist) Raymond Hawkey who created the design on the first book released in this series; “Thunderball”, and all subsequent novels released had a uniform look as did having “JAMES BOND” in large text at the top of each book before the title. Harry Saltzman who was instrumental in getting Hawkey the prize job of redesigning the James Bond paperback covers. Saltzman had invited Len Deighton to Pinewood Studios in October 1962 just before the publication of The Ipcress File and the release of Dr. No, and over lunch told the author that he wanted to purchase the film rights. The stark contemporary design of the dust jacket for The Ipcress File made a strong impression on Saltzman and he persuaded Aubrey Forshaw, the chairman of PAN Books, to commission Raymond Hawkey to redesign the James Bond paperbacks. Hawkey proposed for the first time that ‘JAMES BOND’ should be elevated above the book title, and this be twice the size of the title and author's name. He originally intended that the typography be laid over a photograph of a well-muscled hairy chest. This proved too risqué and vaguely indecent, so it was decided to use a man's back on the final cover. The THUNDERBALL cover also broke new ground in that it had two .38 calibre bullet holes die-cut into Brian Duffy's cover photograph. Surrounding each bullet hole is a torn-paper effect, so it is not the man that has been shot, but the book itself - the two spent bullets are then seen on the opening page. Although Raymond Hawkey is only credited on the rear of the THUNDERBALL paperback, it is undeniably his designs which feature on the rest of the series. It is likely that PAN staff did the layouts for the rest of the covers which followed during the next four years.

Ian Fleming’s most successful non-Bond work was Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. This was initially published in three volumes between 1964 – 1965, by Jonathan Cape in London, with illustrations by John Burningham. Ian Fleming stepped aside from his James Bond spy series to write this for a very noble cause. It was written for his son Caspar, and was the last book Ian Fleming wrote and sadly did not live to see it published. Bond producer Albert R. Broccoli bought the rights to this book and turned it into movie in 1968 starring Dick Van Dyke. Many of the cast and crew you may recognize from many of the 1960’s James Bond films and if you haven’t seen it………………..

This is a majorly rare US 1st paperback printing of Ian Fleming's Casino Royale released in 1953. Publishers were afraid that the US audience would not know what Casino Royale meant. So, came up with their own title. Which Ian Fleming was very upset when he found out. This is one of the holy grails to the Bond book collectors.

One of John Barry's many finest scores for Thunderball. This is one of the albums we can only hope gets re-released with its missing tracks added. The production on this album was very rushed and a majority of tracks weren't recorded at the time they needed for its release.
