Oakland滞在記〜Mar. 2024〜Vol.3🇺🇸 2度に渡ってお送りしてきた滞在記も今回が最終回です。 今回は番外編的に業務以外のお話を。 一生懸命働いた後にはやっぱりビール🍻 アフターアワーズももちろん大切な研修ですので、存分に楽しみました！ 創業者には毎晩ビールを飲みに連れていってもらい、いくら感謝してもしきれません🙇 BCHQのあるJack London Squareというエリアには、なんと徒歩圏内にブルワリーが5軒もあるのです！ Bicycle Coffeeはそのうちの数軒とコーヒービールでコラボレーションしていて、今回はちょうどBUCK WILD BREWING @buckwildbrewing でコラボレーションビールをいただくことができました！ 5枚目の写真、タップリストにあるイラストは、スタッフの女性がビールのコンセプトに合わせてその都度カッティングシートで手作りしているんだそう✨ そんなBUCK WILD BREWINGですが、4月いっぱいで閉店してしまったそうです😭 非常に残念ですが、コラボレーションビールはもちろん、自家製のルートビアなど最後に味わうことができて良かったです。とても親切にしてもらったこと、忘れません！ ということで今回はBUCK WILDの写真を多めに載せておきます。（3〜6枚目） そしてOaklandの街を自転車で巡る時間もつくってもらい、創業の地にも足を運びました！（写真9枚目） かつてSTEINER @steiner_la のアートが描かれていた外壁も白く塗り潰されてしまっていて、周辺は新築のマンションなどが建ち並び、一変してしまった街の様子に創業者もちょっぴり寂しそうでした。 最後はサンフランシスコ国際空港で、金町のカフェでも取り扱っている21st Amendment @21stamendment のビールも飲むことができました！ ちなみに写真に写っているのと同じIPAがちょうど今金町にも入荷しているのでぜひお試しください🍻 ここまで読んで下さりどうもありがとうございました！

Heinold’s First and Last Chance Saloon, in operation since 1883. The structure was built in 1880 from the remnants of a whaling ship, and used as a bunkhouse for oyster-bed workers before being purchased by German immigrant John Heinold and turned into a bar. Jack London did his homework here as a teenager, and John Heinold paid the tuition for London’s freshman year at UC Berkeley. The bar later made appearances in some of London’s literary works. Oakland滞在記〜Mar. 2024〜Vol.2🇺🇸 前回の滞在記、ご覧いただけましたか？ 2回目の今回はデリバリーやカフェの様子をお届けします！ 3日目にはデリバリーにも同行させてもらいました。 AlamedaとBerkeleyという2つのエリアで計7軒を回りました。 走行距離はおよそ20マイル（30km程度）。 東京では近年SPECIALIZEDのE-バイクでトレイラーを牽引していたので、自身の体力の無さを痛感、、、 （帰国後の配達ではアシストを極力オフにした状態での配達に励んでおります！） 4日目にはカフェにシフトインすることができました。 カフェのスタッフはみんなとってもフレンドリーで、それぞれテキパキと働いているのがとても印象的でした。 朝の時間帯は、次から次へと注文の入るブリトーやサンドなどのフードをひたすらオーブンで温める作業や、エスプレッソドリンクなども担当しました。 今回カフェでの勤務時間はあまり長く取れなかったのですが、気づきと刺激に溢れた充実した時間を過ごすことができました！ そして土曜日はファーマーズマーケットにも参加しました！ HQから自転車で10分ほど行ったところにLake Merrittという人口湖があって、Oakland民の憩いの場になっています。 （私たち金町民にとっての水元公園とイメージが重なりました） Grand Lake Farmer’s Marketはその近くの公園で毎週土曜日に開催され、Bicycle Coffeeも毎週出店しています。 セットアップが完了するとどんどんお客さんがやって来て、何度も行列ができていました！ 前の晩にビアバーで会った方が立ち寄ってくれて差し入れをくれたり、隣の出店者さんが差し入れでくれた天心のセットは涙が出るほど美味しかったです。 今回はここまで！ いよいよ次回最終回です🚩

Oakland滞在記〜Mar. 2024〜Vol.1🇺🇸 3月末にBicycle Coffee 本部（以下”HQ”）のあるカリフォルニア州オークランドへ研修に行ってきました。 私にとって初のHQ訪問、ワクワクとドキドキで片道9時間ちょっとのフライトでは一睡もできず、、、 サンフランシスコ国際空港からはBARTという高速鉄道に乗って、乗り換え無しでHQの最寄り駅まで行くことができます。 BARTの券売機は買い方が難しいことで有名なのですが、今回はベイエリアの交通ICカード、Clipperを事前にiPhoneに登録することができていたためとてもスムーズでした！ BARTに乗ること1時間ほどで、サンフランシスコを通過しオークランドへ。 最寄駅まで創業者夫妻が迎えにきてくれて、早速HQへ。 スタッフみんなに挨拶をして、すぐに焙煎と袋詰めなどの作業を手伝いました。 私が到着した朝に冷蔵庫が故障してしまい、さらにカフェスタッフが一名体調不良で欠勤という、かなり慌ただしい状況であったため、できるだけ迷惑を掛けないように、少なからず役に立てるように、とにかく必死で作業を覚えました。 2日目には焙煎と袋詰めを任せてもらい、ブレンドの調合なども担当しました。 平日はほぼ毎日焙煎機が動いている状態で、そのスケールにも圧倒されました。 また作業スペースの至るところで、創業者のイズムを感じとることができました。 今回はここまで！また次回もお楽しみに。 もう少し詳しいことや、写真を見て気になることがあればぜひ店頭でお声掛けくださいね🙌
