Zodra ik mijn batterij heb opgeladen deel ik graag mijn energie met mijn gezin, mijn tribe en met mijn inner circle. Al vanaf jonge leeftijd ben ik bewust én onbewust bezig met mijn eigen ontwikkeling en groei. Ik heb altijd al grote levensvragen gehad over ons bestaan en dit blijft een geweldige, intense, altijd voortdurende ontdekkingstocht. Mijn reis naar waar ik nu sta en naar wat ik nu doe, komt voort uit een persoonlijke zoektocht naar veiligheid en zelfliefde. Als kind kende ik dit gevoel niet. Ik ben al vroeg het contact met mijn hart verloren en heb vooral mijn ratio de leiding gegeven. Dit kon ook niet anders, het was mijn overlevingsstrategie. Toen was dat nodig, maar er komt een moment in je leven dat het je niet meer dient. Ik koos liefde boven angst en leerde mijn innerlijke stem te vertrouwen, mijn intuïtie, de stem van mijn ziel, die spreekt via mijn hart. ‘Teegan had her annual heart check up today, all good thankfully but a bit of an end of her childhood chapter with Dr Rigby. He has been her consultant since she was born and been through many a traumatic time with us. Yesterday was what we call our day 0. It involves getting everything situated in the house and finding what works and what doesn't. Establishing our new routines and "normals." This morning starts our official day 1. A full round of home medications and feeds. We have already worked up a new schedule of medications because in the hospital there were 15+ meds at one time. For a fluid sensitive kid, that does not work well and results in throw ups. This was part of the frustration of being in a hospital setting where things have to be more rigid. Now that we are home, we can adjust both food and med times and volumes to better adjust to what Nick's needs are. I'm kind of neurotic about trying to be organized via spreadsheets. Everything goes into a spreadsheet; house cleaning chores, meal planning, Nick's medicine schedules, Nick's feeding calculations, house projects, etc. What would life even be without Excel spreadsheets? No clue and I shutter at even the idea of it. Nick's first words today were, "Hey Mom, sleeping in my own bed was awesome!" Melted my heart. There are too many times in the hospital when we can't do things for Nick. The thing we can do is to be his advocates and push more aggressively for discharge because we know he heals and thrives when we are in our own environment. The sun is out today. God is shining his light on Nick to show the world of His love. 1 John 3:1 - See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. I wanted to make a video showing how far we have come. Something triumphant and uplifting about perseverance. The truth is, trying to look back is still too close and raw. We've been running in survival mode and I'm too exhausted and haven't even processed everything. Eventually, my compartmentalized packages of events will have to be unwrapped and meaningfilly reflected on. Just not yet. Right now, we are still trying to cope with his current physical state and the unexpected and unfavorable outcomes of this surgery. We need distance and more time away from the hospital to fully heal. We just need to be home because home is where we can all be together. Although being at home is a huge step, we are never out of the woods. There are lingering questions and fears of the possibility of continued infection and his overall heart function. But we power through and have faith that we are doing and making the best decisions for Nick that we can. We are still on track for discharge tomorrow. I won't quite believe it until we are in the car and on the road. A big part of us being here has been the love and support of our village. April 16 I had to go to the social security office because they scheduled interviews and I didn’t get the notice about the interview until two weeks after. They really try to set this up so you can’t get social security or try to set you up so it gets canceled. Thankfully I got it all fixed. Arron had to take my mom to her doctor appointment and took Kimberly with him. After being cooped up in the hospital for 68 straight days, Nick finally got to go outside today! A little sunshine and soft breeze on the face can do wonders for the spirit. ❤️ Please pray that we have an uneventful last weekend in the hospital. Hopefully, the final labs and dose of antibiotics will be on Monday afternoon. We still need pacer wires and picc line removed before discharge. We will also have to sort out a new set of prescriptions for medications, new gtube foods for chyle, and some additional medical equipment. If after the weekend everything still looks good, discharge is possible as early as Tuesday! The last few months have been long and very challenging. March 29 Last year I got pictures of Kimberly with the Easter bunnies that Arron has bought me the last few years. A tradition his dad did with him and now he’s continuing with Kimberly. So I wanted to get pictures of her with the bunnies to document how much she has grown in the last year. I cannot believe she has been home from her long five week hospital stay for almost a year. March 20 Today was Kimberly’s checkup with the pediatrician. Unfortunately it’s time for more vaccines. But we trust scientists and our doctors. Whatever vaccines they want to give her we do. We need to do what will protect her little half of a heart. She was also able to get the covid vaccination finally. She had to wait 6 months since her heart was on bypass. It doesn’t seem like it has been over 6 months since her open heart surgery (Glenn procedure). I've just put my clothes in a washing machine, clicked a button , didn't give another thought, and then I saw this picture . Washing your clothes in a river is going to be much more time-consuming and much harder work. Yet, I've never had a good fun story to tell about putting my clothes in the washing machine. The best it gets is when I accidentally dye the whites pink again. . I'm sitting here thinking about all the nature you'd be connected with if you washed your clothes in a river And coming home with an entertaining story for your family, such as the one about the crazy people who thought they could flow sweetly down the river, but instead they were pulled down bashing into the rocks along the way, yelping and laughing hysterically. . 🏥 Hospital Visit 🏥 On Thursday 25th of April, I had a phone call from our assigned Cardio Nurse who informed us that they'd had correspondence from Leeds to say that they'd had a meeting and had accepted Violet onto the elective surgery waiting list. She mentioned that we would be contacted via letter about arranging an appointment to go and visit the ward and meet some of the staff that may be looking after Violet when she has her surgery. We were told that the waiting list for the surgery is still up to year - depending on circumstances - so I thought this letter wouldn't come for a few weeks at least. Imagine my surprise when it came the very next day. It's scary to think that it could be this year her surgery happens..but as much as it scares me I'm also glad that the ball is rolling and we're that bit closer to having her heart condition seen to. My big girl is creeping closer to 1 and is thriving despite her condition! 🩷 She's confidently crawling around EVERYWHERE and cruising on her feet while holding onto furniture. She babbles so much and has begun using lots of single words already! She loves music and will dance along to any tune 🪇 She plays lovely independently but always comes for snuggles without hesitation. My heart is full from the food full of love and the company of the owners of this restaurant @hacienda.aragon.gt . It is a beautiful restaurant, which is so much more than somewhere to eat . I'm an unapologetic about what I eat, and these owners have no menu. The chef says I can do you vegan, vegetarian, meat, gluten-free, big or small. . Within 2 days, I trust him enough to not even know what I'm going to eat. I just say. 'I'll have a small vegetarian because I know whatever is put in front of me is going to be spectacular . . Our Mario Bros shenanigans continue! Today, Nick got a really cool Lego set, character socks, and Croc charms from the hospital's Little Wishes program. He also picked out a pair of Mario Crocs that are arriving on Friday. The program lets kids make special requests for items while they are inpatient for a long time. It's such an amazing way to help keep morale in tact. It is really easy to get in a rut of emotions being cooped up in a hospital room. Nick has weened down to 2 liters of oxygen from 20 a week ago. He weened further on another medication that will be turned off tomorrow. Lipids will be run today but will also be turned off tomorrow because we are starting to add olive oil as the replacement. That basically takes care of his lines except for a port for his antibiotics and a feeding pump line. We normally bolus feed Nick through a syringe, but since his volume requirements are so high right now, we are running a continuous pump 24 hours. Sometimes, being out of the hospital bed and sleeping on the couch feels more comfortable and like home. We are still moving forward and making progress. We weened down on a medication and stopped another. Nick continues to walk the halls, and we are also tackling strength training for steps. He also got fitted for custom orthotics we will be trying on Wednesday. There are still whispers of discharge being next week. We have unfortunately done this too many times and know that we need to stay on top of everything to avoid adding unnecessary time in the hospital. *This post discusses open-heart surgery and contains post-surgery images. Oscar's story, by mum, Lia: I found out I was pregnant when I was 17. During my pregnancy, there were no concerns until my 20-week scan. The sonographers spent a long time focusing on the heart before leaving to get another doctor who told us there was something wrong with our baby's heart. We then got referred to a larger hospital where we had another scan, which revealed that our little boy had tetralogy of Fallot. The doctors there warned us of all the possible risks that our little boy may face, such as struggling to walk and talk. The doctors also offered a termination, which I refused. I got induced early to monitor how my little boy coped. Oscar was born at 39 weeks and was very blue in appearance. I was allowed a quick cuddle before he got rushed to the NICU. He was one of the larger babies in there, and fortunately, we could go home after two weeks. At six months old, Oscar had his open heart surgery. The surgery took seven hours, and his recovery over the next two weeks was awful. However, Oscar recovered so quickly and surprised everyone. Oscar now has yearly checks and will require more surgery once he is a little older. Currently, he is a happy, energetic seven year old, and he is doing great! I am so glad the sonographers found his heart condition antenatally.
