We picked up 4 cookies and a slice of cake that we ate throughout the whole trip and still had some leftover. I stumbled upon the Instagram account of Gideon’s Bakehouse several months ago and immediately put it on my bucket list of places I absolutely had to try. In fact, you might say I became obsessed. Lucky for me, I was in Orlando, Florida a few weeks ago and I made it my mission to go there before I left. I had heard of the monstrous virtual wait-line occasionally being over three hours long, but I didn’t care. Lucky for me, my wait was only two hours. :) I was not disappointed. Gideon’s cookies are everything I hoped they would be. The bakehouse itself is something out of a Harry Potter movie. It’s dimly lit, with smoke billowing from glowing red vents in front of the counter. The walls are lined with bookshelves filled with strange curiosities. The staff is friendly, helpful, and patient. The night I went they were offering seven different kinds of cookies and I bought one of each. I don’t know how to describe them other than say they were worth the wait. These cookies are made of the finest quality ingredients in small batches. Each one tasted exactly as it should. Rich, dense, and full of flavor. Coffee cake tasted like a coffee cake. Peanut butter like a peanut butter dream. Pistachio toffee chocolate chip the perfect balance of sweet and salty. Not to mention they are huge. About 1/2 lb per cookie. All I can say is the next time you are in Orlando, RUN don’t walk to Gideon’s Bakehouse.
