AN INCREDIBLE COLLECTION OF FAMILIES : In honour of both of their loves' of nature, Gerald Genta worked with an Asian Head of State on the creation of an extraordinary set of clocks. Picture 1 : The Lion Family, that inspired the collection, was sculpted in wax then made in 24-carat gold, so it would be the brightest shade of yellow. Picture 2 : Following the Lion Family, Gerald designed a family of pink elephants. In keeping with the collection's focus on gold, the skin is treated in a special way where the gold is slightly tarnished to look more realistic with tints of pinkish grey. Picture 3 : The Crocodile Family was the third in the set of bejewelled timepieces. The client insisted on what Gerald called a "tooty fruity" clock – which is a mixture of sapphires, rubies, and emeralds. Picture 4 : The final #timepiece in the collection came about in light of a state visit to the #USA to see an important American statesman. With this in mind, Gerald created The Eagle Family in blue and gold. When asked about the collection, Evelyne Genta said that "Gerald wanted it to represent his love for family life. From the 1970s to the 1990s, Gerald Genta designed and created various watches for the French Maison @Vancleefarpels. From wood watches to stone dials or stunning gold cases, these creations are unique in many ways. You can guess the Gerald Genta aesthetic codes in all of them. #GeraldGenta reimagined the #vintage men’s #watch in 1985, 50 years after the original piece was made by Louis Cartier in 1931 as a one-off design for the #Pasha of Marrakech’s swimming sessions and banquets. Cartier was one of Genta’s most favourite brands, and the relaunch was the result of his personal relationship with Alain Dominique Perrin, former President of #Cartier. Genta was commissioned to recreate the watch with a complication component. The round watch broke boundaries for Cartier, opening a new era for the prestigious brand. Both Gerald Genta and Cartier are two of only very few brands to produce the moons in gold and the sky in lapis lazuli, rather than just painting them on. The movements for these very complicated watches were born in the Genta factory in #Geneva. Constantly creating and innovating, Genta combined new shapes and materials with major #watchmaking complexities. Always pushing boundaries, largely inspired by painters and innovative designers, he quickly earned respect and high esteem from the industry. One of his most famous pieces is the Grand Sonnerie, a watch that featured the same chimes as Big Ben. It still remains one of the world’s most sophisticated wristwatches. Gérald #Genta unveiled the Grande Sonnerie in 1995 after five years of research and development. This watch was known to be the most sophisticated and complex #wristwatch in the world at the time. It included more than a thousand spare parts, a perpetual calendar and dual power reserve display. Every step of the assemblage of this watch was crucial for the final result. Its extraordinary movement is composed of more than 950 parts. The 4 hammers strike the gongs 35040 time per year. Before this piece, the #GrandSonnerie had only existed as a pocket watch. Genta made 20 in total, each of which were unique.
