Schließlich natürlich noch zum Western Gate / Genex Tower, 36 Stockwerke und 117 Meter hoch - das um 1977 fertiggestellte signature building des sozialistischen Belgrads, das ich aus dem Airport Bus schon kurz gesehen hatte. So war es auch gedacht: Unübersehbar direkt steht es an der Hauptstraße, die Flughafen und Stadt verbindet und kündet von der Zukunft, wie man sie sich einst vorstellen wollte. / Derzeit ist es ein sehr müder Schatten seiner früheren Grandeur. Einer der Towers steht völlig leer und ist mit Werbung behangen, das Restaurant an der Spitze wird schon lange nicht mehr betrieben. Die kleinen Läden unten füllen ein Nachbarschaftsfriseur und .. ja was eigentlich? / Was man über die aktuellen Eigentümer und Zukunftspläne im Netz findet ist verwirrend und macht keine unmittelbare Hoffnung. Ich bin allerdings sicher, dass man für diesen einzigartigen, tollen Trumm neue Perspektiven finden wird. Ich treffe James, einen Amerikaner, der seit sechs Jahren im ukrainischen Lviv wohnt, dann kommt Anna aus Wien vorbei. Alle staunen und machen Fotos. – Das wird alles wieder. Сегодня расскажу про один «спальный» район Белграда, под названием Нови Београд. Казалось бы, местное «Бирюлево», с серыми многоэтажками и широкими проспектами, но нет! В этом районе много интересного, он не банален и однозначно заслуживает прогулки по его улицам. История его началась в 60-е годы прошлого века. Пустынные поля вдоль реки Савы стали застраиваться кварталами домов, которые называются здесь блоками (blokovi), построенными в стиле конструктивизм. И все имеют свой номер. На пост югославском пространстве даже имеется отдельное название-балканский брутализм! И этот район, его своеобразный заповедник! Сейчас в нем насчитывается 72 блока. В большинстве они все жилые. Блоки, несмотря на общую бетонную серость, все разные. Многие пятиэтажки стоят на так называемых «ножках», строения образуют замкнутые дворы. На первых этажах в основном парковки или технические помещения. Внутри некоторых домов созданы колодцы, создающие естественную вентиляцию, очень необходимую для жилья в таком жарком климате. Застройка не плотная, много зелени, высоких деревьев, широких скверов и бульваров. Во многих пространствах внутри блоков имеются детские сады, школы, спортивные площадки. Обойти все блоки, в рамках даже не одной прогулки, довольно не просто. Мы прогулялись по нескольким, в районе 33-го и близлежащих. В этой части имеется одно интересное строение под названием небоскреб Генекс. Этот небоскреб-доминанта района, отражающий всю общую атмосферу этих мест. Далее см. Il est considéré comme l'un des principaux représentants de l'architecture brutaliste en Serbie et l'un des meilleurs de ce style dans le monde. 🎨 En 1979, Lazar Vujaklija a peint une fresque murale à l'entrée. Ce fut l'une des premières peintures murales de Belgrade. 🏢 Genex Tower, dit Porte Occidentale. 📍41 et 43 rue Narodnie Herojah, Bloc 33 (Belgrade). 📅1977. ⚒️ Architecture brutaliste avec des éléments de structuralisme et de constructivisme. 📏 La tour Genex est un ensemble de deux tours reliées entre elles par un restaurant tournant mesurant 140m de haut (36 étages + le restaurant). Elle est restée le plus haut bâtiment de Serbie et de Belgrade pendant 42 ans, jusqu'à ce qu'elle soit dépassée par la tour West 65 en 2021. Elle a également été le plus haut bâtiment des Balkans pendant 14 ans, jusqu'à ce qu'elle soit dépassée par la tour Akbank à Istanbul, en Turquie. 🚪Le bâtiment est conçu pour ressembler à une porte de grande hauteur accueillant les personnes arrivant dans la ville en provenance de l'ouest. 💼 L'une des tours était autrefois occupée par les bureaux du groupe Genex, désormais totalement vide, tandis que la tour résidentielle abrite encore des dizaines de personnes. I met Jovan, janitor of the famous Genex tower in Belgrade on my search to get into this brutalist building, dating from Yugoslavia times. As the building is sold last year, it is strictly forbidden to take photos inside. Fortunately Jovan allowed me to take his portrait. As a convinced communist and macrobiotic, he told me of his deep admiration for Ché Guevara, Tito and the macrobiotic kitchen. In his kitchen he showed me ingredients from Italy, China, Spain and the rest of the world. What an extraordinary time, staying on the top floor of Belgrade’s Genex Tower, courtesy of two of my favourite people who treated me to this escape. What a treat. Indescribable. A couple of the photos show ‘The Western City Gate’, popularly known as the Genex Tower, which was designed in 1977 by Mihajlo Mitrović in the brutalist style. It is 117m tall! Bombed buildings (bombed by NATO) still stand. Tito’s presence is still strong. Lots of communal gardens and sports facilities span the residential areas. Quite confronting - quite beautiful. 🔎 The Western City Gate of Belgrade, rising high above the highway, was built in 1971-79 at the centre of the modernist New Belgrade neighborhood. It would become the ultimate icon of Yugoslav economic progress. it is a massive portal that has been created by a couple of linked towers, capped with a restaurant as a crown. With its' overall height of 140 metres it immediately became one of Belgrade's most memorable landmarks. The "Genex tower" consists of two towers of unequal height: the lower was used by the state-owned Genex company and the higher (26 floors) was a residential block with eight units per floor. The towers are joined at the top by a two-storey bridge. 🛸 On top of the towers stands round, flying-saucer looking structure, originally a restaurant for the Genex employees. It offers a 360 degree view of Belgrade, and the original idea was to build a revolving restaurant but the mechanism was never installed. "Genex – the General Export Company – was founded in 1952, and grew fast in the post-war climate of socialist Yugoslavia. Its success was a measure of Tito’s international diplomacy: particularly after 1964, when Yugoslavia signed a formal agreement of cooperation with the Soviet Union’s Comecon giving them access to Soviet markets while allowing them to maintain their politically nonaligned status. Genex thrived due to this ability to deal freely with partners in both the East and the West." (D. Richter, Ex Utopia) The murals painted at the walls and ceilings of the bottom of the residential tower are original, painted by Lazar Vujaklija. It is formed by two towers connected with a two-storey bridge and a restaurant at the top. Only the residential building is currently in use, the business tower was sold in 2023.
