⭐️ The Elflaine Chronicles: Ballad of Dawn threw me into an adventure I hoped would never end, with lovable characters, mythical creatures, and an engaging quest ⚔️ ✅️ I connected with each character really quickly, and I am already pining for them. They are so three-dimensional, with depth, substance, and likable personalities. The whole story is totally believable, thanks to the Scottish setting steeped in folklore which is referred to throughout, even embedding ballads to enhance how real and grounded it felt. It felt like I was with the characters on their quest, rather than spectating the action from the sidelines. The characters communicated like the adults they are throughout, with any disagreements swiftly resolved rather than dragged out or sulked over. The interactions with numerous mythical creatures is meaningful and serves a purpose, rather than just being a decoration to prove it's a fantasy book. You can tell the author put so much love and research into this book. I feel like I have been searching for a book like this for a long time: it fills a void I didn't realise I had. Ronald Hutton's "Queens of the Wild: Pagan Goddesses in Christian Europe, an Investigation" is a fascinating book. First it does away with some popular misconceptions about a survival of pagan religion into the Christian era. Then it paints a different, more complex picture of medieval Europe and its folklore. The main focus of the book are four quasi- goddesses - Mother Earth, the Fairy Queen, the Mistress of the Night, and Cailleach - and how they don't fit comfortably into pagan or Christian categories. Truly fascinating stuff! And Ronald Hutton really knows his subject. Plus, his writing style is engaging and accessible. So, clear recommendation!

Who wore it best??? Fun story: on the day of load in for Sleeping Beauty, I tested positive for COVID. That also happened to be Fosse’s birthday so naturally I gave him the worst possible birthday gift by getting sick right before a show. (Being too ill/injured to perform is also my actor’s nightmare, so it was a fun day for both of us.) As the choreographer, he had been filling in for everyone in rehearsal throughout the run and he ended up filling in for me for all of tech week! Fortunately, I was better by dress rehearsal, which means no one will ever get to see @jamesisfosse in my Faerie Queen costume outside of this photo he sent me when I was out sick.
