Allow me to reintroduce myself 👋🏽💗🫶🏽🥹 & Mental Health My name is Destiny and I am a content creator. I just turned 24 years old last week! I have lived in Central Florida my entire life. My family has been here since the start of my town. I am a content creator on Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook, and Tik tok. I studied @ucf.edu as a full time first generation college student. I am apart of the @influencehercollective , @campustrendsetters , @wetheculture , @collectivevoicehq & a few more! I started creating content about 10 years ago on my cameras and then on my iPad. I’m a full time freelance creator now and it’s brought me so many opportunities! 🫶🏽 Social media is just an app on a phone at the end of the day and like everyone else I deal with reality outside of this app. I’ve struggled with mental health since I can remember and in the last few years a lot of things have happened. I got sick one day and never fully got better. I’ve been dealing with chronic pain since 2021 and a few auto immune diseases since 2017. The chronic pain/fatigue only exacerbated my mental health issues to a place where I was unrecognizable. I’ve been transparent about my health struggles and I never fully shared how bad it got for me. In the midst of my own health struggles, my Grandma was diagnosed with two kinds of cancer in 2022 a few months into testing for my own issues. She has been in on going treatment since her breast cancer surgery in April 2022 and will continue to for the next 10 years like many cancer survivors. I still don’t have actual answers to my health issues and have begun to seek help for my mental health issues. I’ve also been diagnosed with anxiety and depression (in a major funk rn send me some good vibes 🫶🏽) !! I never thought I’d make it to see 24 and I’m so glad I have been able to stick around this far! I finally saw the Little Mermaid last night and it did not disappoint 🧜🏾♀️❤️ My initial impressions: **spoilers ahead** Halle Bailey is super talented! The role was perfectly cast. She brings such a modern and yet timeless zeal to the character. Jodi Benson is so cool. I love how devoted she is to the character of Ariel. And how cool that she quite literally passes the proverbial torch - or dingelhopper - to Halle. The new film is much more feminist than the 1989 version. It isn’t perfect, but it makes efforts to correct consent and feminism issues in the original. Eric has an interesting backstory as an orphan found in a shipwreck and adopted by the king and queen - I just wish it had been explored further. The worlds of the Little Mermaid are beautifully diverse. While there has been some criticism for the the idealistic diversity and whitewashing considering the Caribbean setting, I still appreciate the efforts to adapt the story for a modern society more focused on racial equality. Max is no longer an Old English Sheepdog. I’m a crazy dog lady (catch my main @charlottewithdogs) so it was a little disappointing to see a classic breed changed without reason. OES aren’t all that well known, so it would have been cool to see some visibility! I love that the film comments on our current climate crisis. From drinking straws to oil spills to destroying coral reefs, humans do a lot of damage to our oceans in real life, and it was good to see that acknowledged in the fictional world too. Maybe it will make some people consider our role on this planet. It’s going to win a lot of Oscars and every single one will be well deserved! I have never seen anything like the effects in this movie. The animators brought so much life and realism to this fictional underwater world! To be fair, I haven’t seen the new Avatar movie - but I just cannot imagine any film tops Little Mermaid’s special effects.
