Day 17 My first solo workday! I think I did okay to say it was my first shift without a trainer although I did lean on my fellow cast members. I was so grateful to them for helping me because it can be quite overwhelming at first especially because everybody is split into different areas so you may not be able to ask people you already know for help and guests are always asking about different things you may not necessarily have covered in your training and is the kind of knowledge you get simply from practise as a cast member. Had a coughing fit because of the air conditioning. I couldn’t breathe and it was really scary, it was like all of the moisture in my throat just completely disappeared so when I tried to breathe it caught on my throat and made me cough. I had to go and sit in the stairwell where there was no air conditioning in there and just wait for my breath to come back. Because of this I couldn’t engage with guests and because the section I had been assigned to was the busiest I had to be put somewhere else for the rest of my shift which was a real shame because the love I had for that plush wall was on another level. I did have a couple more coughing fits but all in all I managed to get through the rest of my shift and then got back to flamingo to drink lots of tea and try and repair myself for the next day to go to typhoon lagoon and one of the other parks with my friends. #mydisneyprogramlife #disney #instadisney #wdw-igers #disneygrammer #wdw #EPCOT #epcotcenter #creationsshop #creationsshopepcot #soloworking
Day 16 Was my Club cool training day. Unlike my training for Creations Shop my Club Cool training was all done in one day so best believe the day was jam-packed. We started in the kitchen and learned all about the different cleaning products and which ones we needed to use for what machine/situation and how we would be cleaning things at the end of the day. We then moved into the actual store and learned all about how to use the drinks machine and the ice-cream machine. We each had a practise and our trainers let us give our practise ones away for free to children who were walking around the store. After that we went downstairs and learned all about the Club Cool merchandise stock and where it was kept and also learned how to change the syrups for the different taster drinks. After our break we did some more reading of policies but this time ones specific to Club Cool. After we had read those club cool had closed for the day so it was time to put our training about cleaning to use. We cleaned all of the nozzles for each of the taster drinks machines as well as the trays underneath and THEN we got to make our own coke float drinks while we were reading policies upstairs. Coke floats are not really that common in England, I’d actually only ever had one while on holiday so this was a blast from the past. It was so nice to have a little treat while we were working our way through the more boring part of the training and it definitely helped with the heat. The ice cream was on another level in terms of its sweet vanilla-y flavour and its lovely smooth texture. We finished our training day with a clean of the room behind the drinks machines. It was SO hot and I’m happy to report that that was the one and only time I had to go in that room because I don’t think I would have been able to handle going in there a second time. I miss Mouse Gear a good amount, and I liked the theming of it way better than Creations Shop. However, today’s store is a much better setup for this new version of Epcot. 🛍️ ⚙️ 🛍️ ⚙️ 🛍️ ⚙️ 🛍️ ⚙️ 🛍️ ⚙️ 🛍️ ⚙️ 🛍️ ⚙️ 🛍️ • Creations Shop has a very contemporary feel to it thematically, and historically when it comes to WDW I’m not a big fan of that. It’s a reason why I’m not the biggest fan of the Contemporary Resort. But I appreciate the idea behind what the imagineers were going for, and I think it fits quite nicely with Epcot’s new look and layout. Looking beyond the theme, the changes made to Epcot’s main store structurally works really well. It has a modern feel, but more importantly, it’s a much more open layout. For example, Creations Shop has 5 entrances (1 more then Mouse Gear had) which allows for easier traffic flow, they display very large windows all around the shop which brings in a lot of light, and the layout of the inside is more open with a clear main path that blends into several sections. The openness of the store and the building works well, especially with the new World Celebration Gardens at the center of the park. I’ve always appreciated Epcot for its very wide walkways! (Take note, Magic Kingdom)

Day 14: My final day of creations training! I didn’t start my shift until 2:30 so I did some sunbathing and face-timed my family in the morning. I then went back to my apartment, had something for lunch and got ready for work. On my way to the bus I saw a fruit and sorbet stand outside the community hub so I grabbed some of that and honestly it was so refreshing and exactly what I needed while waiting around for the bus in the Florida heat. I was at work from 2:30pm until 11pm. My final training shift was all about the expeditor role which is working downstairs in the stock room. I absolutely loved it because it was mostly putting items into carts for them to be taken upstairs and honestly it was like shopping for merch my whole shift. It was also nice to be somewhere cool. We also learned how to use some stock keeping systems as well as the reticketing machine. It was also the first time I had a shift that finished after park close and I have to say I loved walking to the bus through a completely empty EPCOT. I was so hungry when I got back because I hadn’t taken any food with me to work. As a treat to myself for finishing my first two weeks of living in America I had bought myself some things from the British section of the international foods aisle. I had been eyeing up my Sharwood’s Tikka Masala sauce for a few days and decided that cracking it open was well deserved. I didn’t have rice or chips but I did have some wraps and cheese so I made myself a cheesy wrap and a vegetable Tikka Masala- It was exactly what I needed to quench my hunger and it was great to have something with a bit of flavour (sorry American food). Day 13 was my third day of training. In my role as a merchandise assistant we were trained in different ‘sub-roles’ for example as floorstock, runners, expeditors and on the registers. Day 3 was all about being a runner, which is basically collecting hangers and tags from behind the registers and then taking them down to the stock room, sorting through them and putting them onto racks. You are also in charge of making sure that the tissue, packing paper and bags are all stocked up- exciting, I know. Being in training was starting to get on top of me though, not because of the training itself but because of the times I was in training from and until. Because of the time difference between the UK and Florida my family were already at work by the time I woke up for the day and were already asleep by the time I was finished for the day, I also couldn’t text my family because my trainer did not know how to connect me to the Wi-Fi and I couldn’t get a good enough signal on my breaks to simply text. I therefore hadn’t had a proper conversation with my family in a few days and although that doesn’t seem like a big deal, it was really hard being so far away and not really having any contact. But I finished work slightly earlier on this day and that was all I needed to be able to have a five minute conversation with my mum. I literally ran off the bus and called her straight away because I’d got a text saying that she was going to sleep so I didn’t know if I would have called her back in time. When she picked up I just burst into tears (embarrassing myself here a bit, I know 😂) I managed to pull myself together and let her know that nothing was wrong I was just feeling overwhelmed about not being able to speak to her. Day 12 was my second day of training. It was more of a day of general training on the computers, watching videos and answering questions on health and safety, the Disney way, cash handling etc so we didn’t really go to Creations or Club Cool. The training took HOURS because there were so many modules to get through so we pretty much spent all day in cast services and then our second day was finished. When I got back to Flamingo crossings there was a housing pizza night event happening so I quickly got changed and then hopped on a bus to East campus. They were handing out free slices of pizza and soft drinks so I grabbed mine and then went to go find my friends who let me know there was a meet and greet happening inside which I of course wanted to go to. Me and two of my friends ended up waiting in line for at least an hour to meet safari Mickey and Minnie (getting in our practice for the parks haha) and in the end we got some cute pictures. Day 11 was my first day official day of training in my location- Creations shop/Club Cool! I had a great day of meeting people and getting to know my location. I had already been messaging with a lovely girl who had the exact same training schedule as me and we became great friends. We met in cast services and shortly after meeting each other we met our trainer. Our trainer took us to costuming where she showed us where the costumes for our locations were. We grabbed a few to try on and after getting the right sizes grabbed a few more so we had enough for a full week of work and then checked them out. We then went over to our location and she introduced to as many people as we could find, we met other trainers, coordinators, leaders and other cast members, we also helped a few guests with finding certain items and did a few ‘put backs’ to maintain the Disney look in store. It was very overwhelming because guests didn’t necessarily know it was our first day so when they were asking us questions they expected us to know the answers. After work me and my friends decided to check out a McDonald’s we had seen a couple of times. One of the first things I noticed when I first got to America, and I mean literally on the taxi ride from the airport to Allstar Music, was the difference between American and British McDonald’s’. Now don’t get me wrong, I’ve seen some cool McDonald’s’ in England before but I’m not exaggerating when I say that every single McDonald’s I saw in Florida looked so cool and I was in awe to the point where the taxi driver was laughing at me. At first we ended up at a somewhat normal looking McDonald’s but after paying for yet another taxi we eventually got to the McDonald’s we were looking for. It had an arcade, a play area, fries bigger than your head, pasta meals, pizza cooked in their own pizza oven all of which was strange to see but cool to experience. Sometimes your kids just got to get their sillies out! 🤪 One of our favorite places to let them do that is at #Epcot! Did you know that they have TWO playgrounds AND we JUST learned about the second one that is INSIDE in the Air-Conditioning when it is a million degrees out and they just want to run around and be CRAZY. The first one is outside of the Creations shop. It's on the backside when you're walking towards Test Track-- this one just got rethemed and it is super cute. The structures stayed the same, but the theming around it changed. The second one, I don't think many people know about-- I certainly didn't until about a month ago and we have been going to Disney very regularly for a while now... this one is INSIDE and airconditioned, so we spent a fair bit of time there when we were at Disney in July. This one, you will walk out the exit of Mission Space, through the gift shop. And inside you will find a playground and other fun things for kids to do. My only complaint is that it's a little dark in there, but other than that, it's a great inside place where kids can get some energy out! Sometimes, during the flower and garden festival, there is a third playground, but it didn't come back up this year. So maybe that is no more. It was over by the World Showcase but it was in direct sunlight and really hot! Did you know about these two playgrounds?
