Claudine is my next favorite after Carlotta. The way she talks French excitedly, butchers the English language so sweetly and on top of that tries to avoid her aunt Mamzelle is refreshing. Angela and Eileen bring in the side stories, the former being a rich, spoilt girl and the latter a lost yet determined person. Both the side characters are important due to their mother figures, who stand out as to demanding and expecting. Attending an all-girls school made me identify with these books much more than I would have otherwise, I'm sure. Yes, I wanted to go away to a boarding school and even wrote an essay about it in my English exam (scored well too). And yes I pretended to be Darrell for quite a while. But can you blame me?
