Optimizing your RRSP 💸 🔍 Start Early: Time is your greatest asset when it comes to investing. The earlier you start contributing to your RRSP, the more time your money has to grow through compound interest. 💰 Consistency is Key: Make regular contributions to your RRSP to maximize its potential. Even small, consistent contributions can make a significant impact over time. 📈 Think Long-Term: Don’t just focus on short-term gains. Consider your long-term financial goals and invest accordingly. RRSPs are ideal for long-term investment strategies. 💡 Diversify Your Investments: Spread your RRSP contributions across a variety of investment options for stability and growth potential. 🏠 Home Buyer’s Plan: Take advantage of the Home Buyer’s Plan to withdraw up to $60,000 from your RRSP tax-free to purchase your first home. 📚 Lifelong Learning Plan: Utilize the Lifelong Learning Plan to withdraw up to $10,000 per year from your RRSP to finance your education or training, tax-free. 💼 Invest in Yourself: Your RRSP isn’t just for retirement. Use it to invest in yourself through education, homeownership, or other financial goals. 💸 Tax Exemptions: Contributions to your RRSP are tax-deductible, meaning you can reduce your taxable income and potentially receive a tax refund. Plus, your investments grow tax-free within the RRSP until withdrawal. 🚀 Secure Your Financial Future: By optimizing your RRSP, you’re setting yourself up for a secure financial future and building wealth over time. How the other half eats is written by a Sociologist who wanted to know the role of food in families and how people ate and why. She studied 4 families in depth and their eating and cooking habits. She became very close to the families throughout her research. Her book weaves her own story with the story of these families and the story of food scarcity and abundance in America. I found this book fascinating and I loved the authors writing style and stories. Want to start earning dividends?👇👇 April dividends over the years have grown from: $50 ➡️ $85 ➡️ $96 ➡️ $236.29 Dividends are an incentive or bonus a company pays to shareholders. How do you earn Dividends? You need to purchase stocks or ETF's/index funds which hold stocks that issue dividends. How do you purchase those stocks? You need a brokerage account and an account to buy them in (think TFSA/RRSP for example). 🚨🚨Not all companies pay dividends. April was our first month on a reduced income. We did a good job staying in budget and only touched our emergency fund for the vehicle repairs. Our main expenses this month were the new transmission, and kids activities. We did a really great job at reducing our random spending. We only spent $32 on non-essentials that weren’t gifts. We had a few family members birthdays and we fit them into our budget. We stayed in budget for groceries which isn’t an easy task and didn’t spend on eating out. We did eat out once with a gift card. I strongly recommend reading “The Story of Stuff”. It is an easy and approachable read and will change the way you think about consumption. My favorite quote from the book is “What I question is not consumption in the abstract but consumerism and overconsumption. While consumption means acquiring and using goods and services to meet one’s needs, consumerism is the particular relationship to consumption in which we seek to meet our emotional and social needs through shopping and we define and demonstrate our self worth through the Stuff we own”. Let me know if you have read this book or plan to. Net worth update coming in hot! It was a great 3 months mainly due to the market. The market is on fire. Most of our investment accounts are earning 15-20% currently. Unfortunately with Mr PBP on disability leave our investment contributions are down. We are doing well sticking to our budget though and aren’t drawing from our emergency fund. We dropped 10k in vehicle repairs in the last month so that did affect our net worth but we are still up 10% so that is incredible. How are you all doing? If you have an incorporated business, does it make more sense to pay yourself a salary, or in dividends? 🤔 Here are some factors to consider when deciding…👇 💰 If you pay yourself in a salary, you’ll be responsible for paying into CPP, meaning you’ll pay both the employer and the employee portion of the contribution, as you’re already paying a portion as the business owner. 💰 But if you pay yourself in dividends, you won’t need to pay CPP — which means you can keep that money in your pocket, and invest it how you’d like. However, it’s important to understand that not paying into CPP will reduce or eliminate any CPP pension you could receive at retirement, and will mean you won’t be eligible to collect CPP disability benefits. Additionally, your survivors won’t receive the CPP death benefit or CPP survivor’s pension. You also won’t accumulate any RRSP contribution room. 💰 If you take a salary, you’ll want to make sure your salary is just enough to cover your expenses and lifestyle to avoid paying more taxes than necessary. Often, it is more tax-efficient to keep the surplus money in your business until it is needed. 💰 A benefit of paying yourself is a salary is a record of consistent income, which could make applying for mortgages and loans easier. These are just a few of the many considerations, and there are advantages to both options. (You might even choose a blend of the two!) The best way to know how you should pay yourself is by chatting with both your accountant and Financial Planner. We’re here to help you decide! And if you aren’t working with an advisor yet, please feel free to reach out to me or my team, @silverpathfinancialsolutions, to see if we’re a great fit! #SalaryVsDividends #FinancialPlanningForBusiness #CPP #CanadianFinance #CanadianPersonalFinance #BusinessOwner #KimberleyBC #CranbrookBC #SilverPathFinancialSolutions

💰BUDGET 2024 DAY 🇨🇦 📍Ottawa, Ontario Canada Yesterday, I was invited to visit the House of Commons in Ottawa🇨🇦 for the reading of the 2024 Budget. I had the opportunity to meet with Cabinet Ministers, and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance herself to ask more about how this budget will impact Canadians. To say I’m grateful to have experienced an event like this in our nation’s capital would be an understatement. I started creating Personal Finance content in 2020 ( #MoneyMonday! 🤑) when I wanted to make talking about money less taboo, and wanted to teach people how to manage and manage money in a way that didn’t intimidate them. Going from these Instagram streets to the House of Commons is quite the step up inna liiiiife! 🤪 Over the coming weeks, I’ll be *transparently* breaking down my main takeaways from the budget and what it means for Canadians. Have any questions about the budget or specific topics you want me to cover? Let me know in the comments below! 🔽🔽🔽

Yuck, it was an expensive month. If you were reading my stories we have had so many things go wrong with our vehicles. Our truck’s transmission will be replaced in April so you will be seeing huge numbers there as well. We funded these unanticipated repairs with our emergency fund and will replenish the money in the future. Save an emergency fund everyone. You never know when you will have to drop 10 grand in vehicle repairs. Honorable mentions for large amounts of spending go to the kids activities with summer volleyball camps and tutoring costing a lot. Next up was groceries which makes me mad to talk about. When I stumbled onto the personal finance community online over a decade ago, there were only a handful of Canadian creators. I started learning from Americans about how to save, budget, plan for your goals and invest! Eventually, I found Canadian resources and started to learn how to optimize my TFSA and RRSP. Here is a list of AMAZING money mentors (there are SOOOO many more but this is a great list to get started). Honoured to call some of these my friends :) ps. this was going to be my post for international women's day and I forgot about it, but I celebrate women every day! #personalfinance #canadianpersonalfinance

For a considerable time, my understanding of wealth revolved around: ✨ Expensive cars ✨ Lavish mansions ✨ Designer clothes and shoes ✨ Luxury jewelry How do I presently perceive wealth? ✨ Flexibility of remote work 🫶🏾 ✨ Buying groceries without budget constraints ✨ Feeling loved and surrounded by cherished individuals 🫶🏾 ✨ Midday exercise breaks ♥️ ✨ Living close to the ocean 🌊 ✨ Crafting nourishing, wholesome meals 🤤 You know, it took me a while to figure it out, but I’ve come to realize that true wealth isn’t about fancy cars or big mansions. It’s about having options, isn’t it? It’s about being able to choose how you want to spend your time and who you want to spend it with. The real luxury is having the freedom to live life on your own terms. In my eyes, the epitome of wealth lies in the interplay of simplicity and depth within our choices, revealing true richness💭 Share in the comments what money can offer you that you value most 👀 #clickpro 📸 @twinklzmultimedia #cashmoneymillionaire #moneymaker #moneymotivated #abundancenow #emoney #savingmoneytips #freedomsquad #freedomthinker #canadamoney #financialliteracy #bussinesswoman #womeninvestors #womeninvesting #financialindependenceretireearly #retireyoung #liveyourbestlife #abundanciayprosperidad #brasileirosporai #investindonofuturo #vocepode #dinheiro #canadianpersonalfinance #womenwhoinvest #hustle #personalfinance

Homemade pie crust is shockingly easy and delicious. Make pie crust in a food processor then refrigerate at least 15 min.   If you don’t have a food processor you can mix it by hand. 1 1/4 cups flour 1/2 tsp salt 1 tbsp sugar 1/2 cup cold salted butter cut in small cubes 1/4 cup cold water Roll out crust and put filling inside.  This recipe makes a crust for one pie. Bake it according to the directions for the type of pie you are making. Do you like making pie? #sponsored Hey friends, happy #MoneyMonday 💰! Today, we’re talking about CDIC. CDIC has been very important to me since I realized that banks can collapse/shut down (remember what happened in the U.S. in 2023? 😬) and people can lose their money in the process if it’s not insured. We all work *incredibly* hard for our money, and there are few things I can think of that are worse than potentially losing our money because a bank or financial institution shut down unexpectedly. Before opening an account at any new bank or financial institution, it’s a good idea to see if your funds are insured in the event that the unexpected happens. You should check to see if your existing accounts are insured, too! Learn more about what Canadian banks and financial institutions are CDIC members and what deposits are covered by visiting cdic.ca ▶️ Are you already familiar with CDIC? Have you checked to see if your money across accounts is insured by them? Let me know in the comments! 👇🏽👇🏽👇🏽

Do you have a plan separate from your partner? 🤑 You need to protect yourself. Look, I get it, I love and trust my partner too and trust that nothing would ever happen, but reality is, things do happen. And financial manipulation is absolutely a problem in (some) marriages. Whether they control the finances or there is sudden death, divorce, a massive debt, family pressures… it could be anything and you just never know what could happen. So, please if you don’t already have a plan, start building one! If that’s building one where your partner supports you with it, great! If they don’t… even more of a reason to start! 💕 #canadianfinance #womeninfinance #financialfreedom #canadianpersonalfinance #canadianbudget

FOR the INVESTORS 📈 What’s your investment plan? I learned mine from listening to different strategies on Bigger Pockets: Money with @scott_trench and @mindyatbp . I listened to many episodes and heard many different routes to Fi. I then sat down and really tried to think of my best options. This plan was revised MANY times. But this is it! The whole point of this plan is to be Coast fi with stock investments and contribute the max to my TFSA each successive year. This will make me a tax free millionaire. At age 33 I was busting my ass off doing OT to get myself to coast fi. But really most of the heavy lifting from this account will happen in the background over time with compound interest. Then to move my fi date forward, we’re focusing on buying cash flowing properties and I am creating a product as a side business. If the business does well we will reinvest money from that into rental properties ! If it doesn’t do well, then it’s a learning experience ☺️. We are aiming for 10k cash flow from real estate to actually consider ourselves Fi ! What’s your plan ?!? 👇👇👇 #financialfreedom #financialminimalism #financialliteracy #financialindependence #financialindependenceretireearly #financialindependenceforwomen #womenwhoinvest #womeninvestors #womeninvesting #womeninbusiness #womensupportingwomen #canadainvestors #canadianpersonalfinance #canadafinance #canadianinvestor #canadamoney

Do you know what your net worth is? This is my favourite metric to track my financial progress over the months and especially years, as that’s where you see the most change. It’s a nice way to see all of your hard work pay off, watching your net worth slowly climb over time. 5 years ago, when I first calculated my net worth, I was at negative $35,000 - meaning my liabilities were larger than my assets. I was 26 and finally thought “wow, I’m inching closer to 30 and I contributed nothing to my financial future”. At that point I was actually stealing from future me as I first had to find a way to pay off the debt I have accumulated. So I got to work. I started tracking my income and expenses religiously, I listened to so many podcasts, books, and other finance creators as motivation. And 5 years later, I have a six figure net worth and I’m proud of the work I put in to get here. One thing I do want to point out, that I also struggled with, was feeling shame around my financial decisions. I felt this need to rush my way to a positive net worth as fast as possible to escape the shame I was feeling over making poor financial choices. And while every persons situation is different, mine was largely a choice to have poor finances, so I felt extra shame around that. In hindsight, I didn’t know what I didn’t know and I was doing the best I could with what I had. So if you feel this way at all, go easy on yourself and instead, be proud you are taking the steps towards a better financial future now. If your net worth isn’t where you want it to be, you’re not too late. You’re never too late. But the best time to start tracking and working on improving your financial health is now if you want to get the most out of your efforts. Time is always your biggest asset and you’ll never have more of it than you do today. So, if you’ve never calculated your net worth, your takeaway today is to do just that. It shouldn’t take more than 5-10 minutes. Knowing where to start is the first step. Every step you take towards better financial health, will be reflected the next time you update your net worth. You got this! Are you calculating your net worth today?

This year my return is $888 and I will be investing it all ! But in full transparency I could throw it at my $5k of debt right now. And I want to. But I know I’m heading back to work soon from Mat leave so my income generation will increase soon so I will pay that debt off ASAP. Right now I am more stressed that I haven’t contributed much to my TFSA. The max this year is $7000. My goal was to become coast fi (which I am) and then switch gears from focusing majorly on stock investing to more real estate/business. And the bare minimum each year I will contribute is maxing out my TFSA. All other money will go into other ventures. So I am currently all that and MORE with my debt 😑. Although I haaaaaaate debt. I know it’s for a greater purpose! Let me know if you’re interested in learning more about my entrepreneurship side of @myfijourney ! Cuz currently it is eating away my money but also filling me with joy !……. And anxiety 😬. ✨ HOW TO BECOME A SINGLE INCOME HOUSEHOLD ⬇️ In today’s increasingly expensive world, the prospect of transitioning to a single-income household while one parent stays at home can seem undoable. However, it's a goal many parents aspire to achieve, and the rewards for your family can be truly remarkable. Here's your roadmap to a single-income household: ✨ EVALUATE YOUR FINANCES: Understanding your current spending is crucial for devising a plan to cut costs. Keep a close eye on your cash flow each month. If you need assistance tracking expenses, feel free to reach out, and I'll provide you with a complimentary cash flow tracker. ✨ GRADUALLY REVISE YOUR BUDGET: Aim to decrease spending by 10% of the proposed stay-at-home parent's take-home pay each month. Allocate this amount to an emergency fund. ✨ BUILD AN EMERGENCY FUND: Ensure you have savings equivalent to six months of essential expenses. This safety net ensures financial security in case your partner loses their job, providing coverage until a new source of income is secured. ✨ REVIEW BENEFITS AND INSURANCE: Assess your coverage needs as a family. Review your partner's life insurance to guarantee adequate protection in the event of his or her passing. ✨ MAINTAIN OPEN COMMUNICATION: Discuss your finances with your partner. Monthly reviews of your cash flow ensure you're not overspending and that your budget remains effective. As you transition to a single income, it's vital to stay informed about your household's financial status, as your partner's income becomes your collective income. How did your February go? We spent a fortune on groceries which included 1/2 a pig. Hopefully purchasing pork in bulk saves us some money these next few months. Want to start earning dividends?👇👇 Feb is my second lowest dividend month but over the years it has grown from: $13 ➡️ $35 ➡️ $53 ➡️ $95 Dividends are an incentive or bonus a company pays to shareholders. How do you earn Dividends? You need to purchase stocks or ETF's/index funds which hold stocks that issue dividends. How do you purchase those stocks? You need a brokerage account and an account to buy them in (think TFSA/RRSP for example). Wealthsimple and Questrade are two of the most well known brokerage platforms. 🚨🚨Not all companies pay dividends. Dividends can change and are not guaranteed.🚨🚨 I track just for fun, to see the progression. With February over, I am sharing a dividend update. In January, the posted dates of our dividends in our account changed on us. Rather than dividends being received on February 1 like it was initially shown, the date received turned out to be January 31, so these dividends weren’t included in our January dividends update. Update numbers shared in this post. Since we had the DRIP💧on, some dividends received in January were automatically reinvested into a new share at $82.49 and in February, it was the same story with a different new share at $129.49.
