THE KENNYWOOD SAGA CONTINUES! After a guest found a kitten yesterday near the exit of @kennywoodpark we asked our network for help searching for her siblings and mom. Randi, a local trapper, and our volunteer, Matt, searched until 1:30am to catch each kitten and mama one by one. ♥️ If anyone finds any more kittens in the area, please let us know. Randi is headed back to search tonight to make sure no one was left behind. Now for names... Later this evening, an amazing trapper named Randi went back to look for mom and siblings and found the little guy pictured!! If anyone knows of other kittens or a mama near there, please let us know! As tempting as it may be to keep or give away a cute little kitten you find, it's always best for them to be reunited with their family. And usually there's more than one kitten and a mom in need of rescue. Many small rescues, including us, will work tirelessly to try to find the others so kittens can grow up with their mom and siblings. And kittens this young need special formula, bottle feeding every few hours, help expressing their bladder and bowels, and to be provided extra warmth at all times since they can't regulate their own temperatures yet. They're also very susceptible to illness or succumbing to fleas and parasites at this age - especially without a mom to provide antibodies while nursing! Meet Jin! I recently just took in this foster kitten because no other rescue would and he would’ve been euthanized. He was brought into an animal hospital by a Good Samaritan in Vacaville where he was discovered all alone near his mom who was hit by a car and sadly passed away. It is unknown if he had siblings since he was found as a singleton. He was checked by a veterinarian at that animal hospital and was deemed relatively healthy. He’s about a month old so he has lots of growing to do! While he is with me I will get him vaccinated & neutered and find his forever home in the next month or so. Patrick is all grown up (aka he’s old enough at 8 weeks to be neutered)! This VERY special boy came to us on St. Patrick’s day. He was our first (of many) orphan bottle babies this season. Caring for bottle babies can be touch and go. Fading kitten syndrome is real, and will strike when no one expects it (especially when kittens are only a few days or weeks old). We’re so glad this little dude overcame his upper respiratory infection, 💩 issues, and gained some much needed weight so early on. He’s also a total ham, and adores pretty much any human or cat he meets. Patrick is just one of dozens of bottle babies we’ve saved over our five years of existence. Moody Foodie came to our nursery from @austinanimalcenter on the edge of death. The staff member who opened his carrier recalls seeing his lifeless frame, unable to stand up, eat, or regulate his temperature. Just barely 1-month-old, unable to fight for his life alone, our Neonatal team quickly joined in on the fight to keep this boy alive. Sadly, it isn’t uncommon for our team to meet kittens as they are toeing the line between life and death. Moody Foodie was placed on an IV pump which provides supportive fluids to help keep his blood sugar up. 🐱 The staff member who first laid eyes on this teeny boy took him in as her foster. She didn’t see any improvement for the first 48 hours, then suddenly, things began to change! And after just one week in our care and his foster’s loving home, he was back on his feet, expressing his mighty opinions. He has a precious silent mew and purrs so loud they can be heard across a room. He’s so happy to have been given a fighting chance and more importantly, to have someone fighting alongside and for him. Well...we've got another bottle-baby yard ornament. Grandma and the Ladybug were feeding and walking him this morning. * His momma is just not very good at this. First Annabelle (the cow) adopted (stole) him. Then we found him curled up with Lamb-Lamb--who might be warm and friendly, but has no milk to offer. 😜 * So he's up at the house. And we're washing bottles and mixing milk replacer, and the Ladybug is doing 4-6 hr night feedings like any other newborn again. Meet Lucky 🤍 🐾 Lucky’s story is a heart-melter! This little three-week-old kitten was found by a tourist on the side of a busy street on the way to Diniwid Beach, meowing his heart out for help and food. The tourist @alexeuh_ couldn’t bear to leave him there, so she scooped him up and took him to the vet for deworming and eye medicine. Since she was continuing her tour of Asia, she reached out to @boracayaarc and @aarrc_philippines for help. Enter our hero foster dad @grimgrimreefer! 👨 🐱 He’s got plenty of experience and stepped right up to take care of Lucky. We also found Lucky a furever home with someone who’s been eagerly waiting to adopt a kitten. Am Dienstag kam ein schwaches Bockkitz zu uns und wurde gleich liebevoll von Finja umsorgt. Der Kleine war an einer befahrenen Straße gefunden worden, wo er am Rand lag, mit dem Kopf schon fast auf der Fahrbahn. Die engagierten Finder @suse_sews berichteten von einem Zwilling, der aber noch nicht gesichert werden konnte. Sie zogen nochmal los, leider ohne Erfolg. Aber es ließ ihnen keine Ruhe, und so wurde die Suche am Mittwochmorgen so lange fortgesetzt, bis auch das zweite Kitz, ebenfalls ein Böckchen, gefunden und gesichert worden war. Später stellte sich heraus, dass die Ricke leider Opfer eines Unfalls geworden war. 😢 Wir bedanken uns sehr für so viel Engagement und Tierliebe. We have a couple of new fosters to introduce you to! First up is this tiny little kitten. We are fostering her through @squishyfacecrewva. She came into our care on Monday night after the finder contacted the rescue for help. This person's dog proudly returned home with a fuzzy little bundle. He must have been incredibly gentle because no harm came to the kitten, other than being kitten-napped. They tried to return her to the mom, but unfortunately, there were many community cats in the area, and they couldn't figure out where she belonged. They knew that there wasn't any way that she could survive on her own, so they found help through a friend that is connected with the rescue. I have been having major kitten fever, so I didn't hesitate to say "yes" when asked if I would like to help. We have named her Jive and believe she is a young, 2-ish weeks old. Her eyes aren't opened yet, but her ears are unfolded, and she is 200 grams. The girl is a fighter. Currently, she is fighting the bottle with all her might. I'm trying not to be too anxious while I wait for her to figure out that the formula is her friend and that she needs to transition over to the nipple/syringe. It usually takes some time for bottle babies to figure things out if they have ever been with mom, but this is the longest I've had a little one hold out. I have been able to get a little formula through drops each feeding, but she has not shown any intention of latching yet. Right now, I'm keeping her hydrated with fluids every 8 hours and offering the bottle every 4. She is staying spunky and active. We wanted to share an update on Dice, as well as extend a massive thank you to @welovecuddly ! They sent us an amazing haul from our wishlist, and we couldn’t be more grateful! We couldn’t even include everything they sent in the pictures 💕💕💕 This makes a world of difference for our little rescue! Dice is still so very tiny at 5 and a half weeks, his siblings tower over him, but they still include him in play and cuddle time. He has had some tummy troubles and is currently on antibiotics, and still is being tube fed as he just can’t get the hang of eating like his siblings. But he is still bright and happy, so we will keep doing what he needs to have his best chance 💪 Paws up as always to his foster mom for going the extra mile for him! 🩵 #specialneedskitten #kittenrescue #animalrescue #fosterkittens #bottlebaby #tubefed

He was born on May 12th after a rough delivery to a first calf heifer. Unfortunately his Mama didn’t accept him once she was able to get up nor the next day so he’s my new grass puppy. It's #WittleWhiskersWednesday! 💙🐈🐈🐈💛 Upper respiratory infection (URI) is common in kittens growing up outdoors, and it can kill them or leave them permanently blind. Usually caused by a herpes virus, URI symptoms include discharge or crust on the eyes and nose. The symptoms progress quickly when left untreated — in a matter of days, the eyes can go from "goopy" to swollen, and end up rupturing. Even milder URI symptoms can be life-threatening. Kittens with excessive nasal discharge may not eat because they can't smell their food, and kittens temporarily blinded by eye discharge may wander into grave danger. The best first-aid treatment for a kitten with a crusty or "goopy" nose and eyes is a simple cleaning with plain water. Cleaning is a must — otherwise, the discharge seals in the infection, helping it get worse faster. To clean a sick kitten's nose and eyes, slowly and gently dab the area with a warm, damp cloth to soften the crust, then wipe it away very gently. Repeat as necessary to keep the nose and eyes clear. Consult a veterinarian if cleaning alone doesn't clear the symptoms, or if the kitten has more serious symptoms. A vet may prescribe antibiotics to help manage secondary infections. Here is the update on our baby girl, who is doing well and turns 1 week old today! 🍼 Instead of finding another bottle baby, I tried putting our sweet February-born Nubian wether, Britches, in with her. They became friends immediately. He is going to teach her how to do goat things like drink water, eat hay, butt heads, and find her way around the farm. 🐐 We decided to call her Sweetie, after her momma. Well, it turns out Lucky has a twin. I think we caught her in time, but time will tell. 🤞🏻 They are pretty little things. They’re staying at Mr Arts house in town, he’s got a lot of experience at working his magic with bottle calves. If all goes well over there we will go get them in 10 days or so and they’ll be the boys projects. The boys of course want them here at the house now, but I insisted they stay at Mr Arts, I think that’s where they’ll have the best chance at survival. I didn’t have the little calf wranglers with me today, luckily she was laid next to the fence and I was able to grab her and get her in the truck without too much of a problem. I put her on the backseat floorboard thinking she would stay put, because she was fairly weak. Everyone please meet my newest obsession, Norman AKA Normie. Norm came to us three and a half weeks ago. He was total skin and bones, had severe diarrhea, and a wound on his ear that was treated and turned necrotic. A couple weeks into his stay here the necrotic tissue fell off which was terrifying to wake up to. Despite it being scary it’s not uncommon and a round of antibiotics kept any infections at bay. It took a lot of supplemental bottle feeding, medication, and care to get him to where he is now. He’s nice and plump and healthy. He gets to free roam my home now with the divination litter (Rune, Tarot, and Astro.) If it weren’t for his tiny size you’d swear they were all siblings. Anyways, that is all, I just wanted everyone to meet Normie and fall in love with him like I have. He’s missing an ear, his eyes are spaced just a little too far apart, and I’m obsessed. ❤️
