Blue & Lonesome - The Rolling Stones (December 2, 2016) 4 1/2 out of 5 Stans It’s no secret the role the blues played in the development of The Rolling Stones. After all, Mick was carrying some Muddy Waters albums under his arm when him and Keith had their fateful meeting on that train platform in Dartford. This record, a covers album of old blues classics that inspired the band, is a late career gem that showcases the group doing what they love best. Mick is in particularly strong form on vocals, and especially on blues harp, regularly stealing the show throughout the whole album. Whether he’s paying tribute to the greats of the genre like Little Walter on “Blue and Lonesome” or honking along with the steady bluesy shuffle of “I Gotta Go,” he remains the star. The rest of the band is tight as well, exhibiting a youthful exuberance that hasn’t been present since their earliest records, playing tight and fearsome covers of Howlin’ Wolf’s “Commit A Crime” and Bukka White’s “Ride Em On Down.” It’s a stark reminder why these guys were thought to be a threat to the establishment in their younger years, each song sounding dangerous and sleazy. They even work in a couple of appearances from their fellow English blues peer, Eric Clapton, who plays sublime slide guitar on “Everybody Knows About My Good Thing” and a fantastic lead on “I Can’t Quit You Baby.” The blues are the reason The Rolling Stones formed and this album proves that they’re still as big of fans of the genre today as they were when they started. HÁ 7 ANOS, OS ROLLING STONES LANÇAVAM O ÁLBUM “BLUE & LONESOME” Em 2 de dezembro de 2016, os Rolling Stones lançavam Blue & Lonesome, seu vigésimo quinto álbum de estúdio (nos Estados Unidos). Sucessor de A Bigger Bang (2005), Blue & Lonesome é o único trabalho dos Stones composto apenas por covers, todos de blues clássicos que inspiraram o grupo -- "Just Your Fool", "Hate To See You Go" e "Ride 'Em On Down" foram lançados como single. O álbum foi todo gravado em uma maratona de três dias em dezembro de 2015 (um ano antes do lançamento), com a produção ficando a cargo de Mick Jagger e Keith Richards, ao lado de Don Was, que trabalhou com a banda por duas décadas. O álbum foi o primeiro desde Dirty Work (1986) a não conter contribuições de Jagger nas guitarras, e o primeiro desde It's Only Rock N' Roll (1974) a não conter participação de Richards nos vocais. Além dos quatro Stones -- Jagger (voz e harmônica), Richards (guitarra), Ronnie Wood (guitarra) e Charlie Watts (bateria) --, completaram o time os contratados Darryl Jones (baixo), Chuck Leavell (teclados) e Matt Clifford (multi-instrumentista); Eric Clapton participou tocando guitarra em duas faixas.
