The camera that took this photo is over 80 years old. It emigrated to America from Germany with my grandparents in the 60s. My Grandmother gave it to me after I dug it out of an old drawer when I was in Highschool. I feel compelled to continue this camera’s amazing journey, and to see how far it will go. Day 9 of my showcase of cameras - and once again, it is a camera that I have yet to use. Which I will! The Agfa Billy Record was a series of folding cameras made by Agfa in Munich, Germany. This model, the Agfa Billy Record 7,7 was produced between 1933 and WWII. From 1940, almost the entire production was for military purposes, but no exact end date can be given... The 7,7 in the name points to the fastest aperture - f/7.7. Three other models were made - the 8.8, 6.3 and 4.5. It take 120 roll film and produced medium format negatives of size 9x6cm. My model was probably made in the mid-1930s and back then cost 19,50 Reichsmark. A very cheap camera, considering the average wage in 1934 was 130 Reichsmark. As with the Agfa Box I presented a few days ago, the company did a lot to boost their film sales by providing everybody with the chance to own a camera. These have nothing to do with each other- I just added the photo of me from yesterday’s trip because I think it’s funny I innocently bought what I guess is a brotographer cap? It’s what they had at the tractor supply store 😂 Am I a brotographer now? I shot the yucca up against the Flatirons with my beautiful, but not my favorite- Agfa Billy Record 7.7- a gorgeous camera, but it’s dirty and I never learned quite how to frame with it. I’m not motivated to fix either even though I love the 6x9 format. That yucca is now forever recorded on film only.
