The momentous occasion marked six decades of service and dedication by our brave men and women in the airforce, who have worked tirelessly to protect our nation and uphold its sovereignty against all odds. As the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Defence and as a proud Nigerian, I am constantly inspired by the selflessness and courage of our airforce personnel. They have faced countless challenges and adversities, yet they continue to serve our fatherland with passion and dedication. Had a fantastic time with my boys at the Air Force Band and Singing Sergeants concert at Orchestra Hall! It was an AMAZING concert! Incredible to see so many Minnesotans honoring and cheering on our armed forces. The musicality and level of excellence was moving and phenomenal!!!! Sweet Darren was in Texas featured at an art show, so we took a school night and ran downtown with the boys- it was late, but had to take them to historic Britt’s Pub for some late night Fish and Chips and Shepherd’s Pie!! TROOP TUESDAY || Please say, “hello” to SSgt Danielle Headrick! Danielle has been singing for the Air Force since 2016 and has been with the Heritage of America Band for about 2 years. She has been an integral part of several of our performance groups as well as performing the National Anthem for a plethora of events, from military ceremonies to professional sports games! She hails from the beautiful mountains of Flagstaff, Arizona where she gained much of her musical knowledge from making music with her family starting at a young age. In addition to vocals, SSgt Headrick has also shared her talents of trumpet, guitar, and song writing with the Air Force! In fact, one of SSgt Headrick’s favorite musical moments in the Air Force was getting to perform a song she co-wrote in recognition of outstanding enlisted members of all branches of the military on Armed Forces Day in 2019. Outside of the office, you can find her reading, baking, or spending quality time with her soon-to-be two year old son, Jackson. She is also working toward finishing her Bachelor’s of Psychology and has an avid passion for mental healthcare. The U.S. Air Force Band and Singing Sergeants performed for hundreds at the Bemidji High School auditorium on Sunday as part of the band’s community relations tour. Formed in 1941, the U.S. Air Force Band includes six ensembles made up of Airmen from across the country. Two of the ensembles were highlighted at Sunday’s performance — the Concert Band, which features 52 active-duty musicians, and the Singing Sergeants, which features 24. NEW MEMBER ALERT ‼️ Welcome A1C Karlee Kamminga, our new Horn player!! A1C Kamminga joined us in November 2023 and in addition to her duties as a horn player in Offutt Brass, she’s our Director of Social Media! A1C Kamminga brings a wealth of knowledge from her previous arts administration position at the Boston Symphony Orchestra. A1C Kamminga has performed in orchestras all over the country and was recently the featured soloist at the Domaine Forget International Music Festival in Quebec, Canada. A1C Kamminga earned her Master of Music degree from the New England Conservatory of Music and her Bachelor of Music degree from Western Michigan University, both in horn performance. Her primary teachers include Rachel Childers, Dr. Lin Foulk Baird, and Dr. Paul Austin. A1C Kamminga also has a minor in French and had the unique opportunity to study abroad in France. In the USAF Bands, A1C Kamminga is most excited about all the opportunities to travel and share music with people all over the world. Outside of the USAF, A1C Kamminga teaches private lessons & plays gigs, loves to find the best donuts in town, and is a mom to her kitten Felix!
