This summer we are excited to welcome back the Missoula Children's Theatre! This is a FREE day camp for students entering 1 through 12 grade where they will get hands-on experience with theater, performing in the shows, learning about the process behind the scenes, and more. Here are a few pictures from our previous Paint & Sip event! Our next one is June 8th from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. The event will be $35 per person and include paint, painting supplies, rocks, figurines, and door hangers to paint on, snacks, and 1 drink per guest! Additional drinks will be available for purchase. This is a family-friendly event - beverages containing alcohol will be available as will pop. After the event guests will be able to take their painted creations home with them. Perfect for an outing with your friends or family, or come solo and make friends here - this is a great way to get out of the house and be creative! This summer the Missoula Children's Theatre will be bringing Jack and the Beanstalk to the Lofte Stage at their weekly long day camp running June 10th through the 15th! The Missoula Children's Theatre Camp is a free camp open to all students entering grades 1 through 12. Students get a chance to learn all of the pieces of a working theatrical production from props and costumes to songs and dances, behind the scenes and on the stage - they get to do it all! In Ottowa, Illinois stands a bronze statue, of a girl in her late teens or early 20s, holding a closed tulip in one hand, and a paintbrush in the other. This statue is a tribute to the Radium Girls and stands in front of a former factory where they worked. While the statue stands in Illinois, these Radium Girls lived in many parts of the country - Illinois, Connecticut, New York, and, where we focus on our upcoming production of “Radium Girls,” the factories in New Jersey. As you’re preparing to come and see Radium Girls, we’d like to provide a little bit of background and some context for what happened before the beginning of the show. Let’s start with the original “Radium Woman,” Marie Curie who discovered radium in 1898. To give you a timeline of where we were in our knowledge of radioactive material, the X-ray had just been discovered in 1895, and it would be almost another 50 years before Oppenheimer’s nuclear bomb was developed. Scientists at this time who were exposed to radiation in large doses suffered skin burns and hair loss (Marie Curie herself eventually passed in 1934 due to a condition she developed after years of radiation exposure). However, people realized radiation could be beneficial for fighting ailments like cancer in small doses. This discovery triggered radium to be considered a “wonder substance.” People believed it would not only help cure cancer but also diabetes, arthritis, and more. And a whole industry boomed. Radium could be found in toothpaste, hair tonics, lotions, and the list goes on. LINCOLN - If you're coming from SOUTH Lincoln, your quickest route is to head towards 148th Street, then take that to Highway 34. Make a left on Highway 50 and turn right on Highway 1. You should be on our doorstep in about 50 minutes! If you're coming from NORTH Lincoln, the interstate might be quicker. Hop on I-80 and take exit 420 towards Ashland. Follow Church Road and then make a right on Highway 50. Make a left on Highway 1, and you can be ready to see a play in under 40 minutes! OMAHA - Folks on the WEST side of Omaha should make their way to 144th Street, aka Highway 50. you can ride that all the way out of town! April is National Volunteer Month! Our community theatre runs mostly on volunteers including the smiling faces that greet our patrons when they walk in the door, our ticket takers, concession stand workers, ushers, performers, and many people working hard behind the scenes. While we wish we could pay them all with money, we want to take a moment and thank them with gratitude. However, our volunteers don't walk away with nothing. All volunteers get free popcorn and pop at any show they work, plus volunteers can bring a friend and they can both see the show for free. We also outfit them with a free t-shirt (once per season). We are excited to share that this summer the Missoula Children's Theatre will be bringing Jack and the Beanstalk to the Lofte Stage! The Missoula Children's Theatre Camp is a free camp open to all students entering grades 1 through 12. Students get a chance to learn all of the pieces of a working theatrical production from props and costumes to songs and dances, behind the scenes and on the stage - they get to do it all! Our first Paint & Sip in the Pavilion event is on April 21st from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm! Reserve your space by calling the box office at 402-234-2553. This session will be family-friendly garden rock painting! For $35 rocks, paint, and painting supplies will all be included, as well as snacks, and your first drink is on us - beer, wine, water, or pop! Attendees are encouraged to bring designs to paint or see our pre-painted rocks for inspiration. Lifetime artist Linda Dabbs will be available for painting assistance, but this will not be a step-by-step guided painting experience. We'll be enjoying the great outdoors (weather permitting) and creating beautiful art, and we hope you'll join us! Additional drinks will be available for purchase. Please be aware that we will not be able to accept day-of reservations or "walk-ins" for this event - pre-registration is required to ensure we have enough supplies for all participants. She has also appeared on many other stages including The Lincoln Community Playhouse, Angel’s Theater Company, and Beatrice Community Players. Stephanie is a Lead IT Applications Developer for the State of Nebraska. She also works for Eagle Hollow Scream Park every October as a scare actor. Stephanie lives on an acreage near Sterling and has three daughters; Ashley, Allison, and Sydney; and one granddaughter, Cassandra. She is very grateful to her husband, Pat, for his continuous support and encouragement. His most recent role was as the suave but creepy Mr. Paravacini in Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap at The Lofte in September 2023. Stan was also presented with an award by The Florentine Players for his portrayal of Edgar Allan Poe in The Tell-Tale Farce in October 2023. Recently retired, Stan and his wife have five better-than-average children and a wonderful daughter-in-law. Having once taken a Greyhound bus from Newark, New Jersey to Tampa, Florida, and having also taken a tour of Great Britain by bus, Stan is looking forward to this latest journey as well. He hopes that you will also enjoy the trip with this fabulous cast. Remember to take turns at the window seats! He also played multiple roles in the Rose Theater’s 2023 Spring Production of, Last Stop On Market Street. J.J. last appeared on the Lofte stage in the 2020 production of Office Hours. He stepped in, in the eleventh hour, two days before Opening Night and performed with JUST 2 days of rehearsal! J.J. joined the Born-in-a-Barn Players as “George” in the September 2019 production of Of Mice & Men, and was nominated for an Omaha Entertainment Award for, “Best Actor” in a Play. In September of 2020, he played the role of Walter Flood in our production of Becky’s New Car and again, was nominated for “Best Supporting Actor” in a play. He has performed on many stages in the Omaha area as well as Los Angeles, CA, Scranton, PA, Billings, MT, Wilmington, NC, Spokane, WA and Baltimore, MD.
