GODZILLA MINUS ONE (2023) An impressive reference to the original 1954 film with sensational updates on traumatic contents about World War II and frightening encounters with the monster. Highly recommended. Unfortunately, I'm the one who think that Naoki Sato's score - surely with the approval of director Takashi Yamazaki - is on the much less impressive aspect of the film. Although it's perhaps amazing if you are either new to the composer or into music for sound test and I can assure you that asking him to write bold music like SPACE BATTLESHIP YAMATO here wouldn't have been a good fit, some greatly terrifying and emotional elements like his BLOOD-C: THE LAST DARK, PARASYTE and EUREKA SEVEN HI-EVOLUTION 2 would have elevated the film much better. I mean, the soundscape is big and bleak enough with all the orchestra and choir joining experimental electronics plus I really like that there's a pilot theme which positively shares a few compositional techniques with THE ETERNAL ZERO main theme. But the result for the most part just feels too light including skippable atmospheric passages, the composer's own monster theme which feels like an inferior take on his KYOJO and the theme for the humans where his trademarks in drama genre are unmistakable but they rarely form a satisfying melodic structure to remember. Furthermore, the re-recorded pieces to nod Akira Ikufube's music is outstanding enough for listening experience but ironically too faithful that it breaks the mood of Sato's music in context and accordingly makes me wish that he could profoundly embrace those original music like what Bear McCreary did in GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS (or the same way he did with original SPACE BATTLESHIP YAMATO anime music in the live-action film music). Soy un hombre simple, me gustan las películas de mostros. Y nadie es más monstruo que Godzilla. Minus One es un joya, una perla que brilla más en este contexto donde todas las historias parecen hechas con el mismo molde cansino y gastado (correte Hollywood, llegó el más poronga del cine). Acá tenemos algo NUEVO construido en base a lo viejo, ese es el gran truco y uno de los porqué me parece una de las mejores películas de esta década (sí, es así de buena). La quiero ver mil veces más. Desde los primeros diez minutos, que te agarran de la solapa y no podrás creer lo que estás viendo: al monstruo en su esplendor y en su infancia. Después pasarán cosas y la historia crecerá tanto como Godzilla, para llegar a un segundo acto descomunal y un final a toda orquesta y emoción y grandilocuencia. Los efectos especiales son una locura, nunca viste a Gojira así: tan hermoso, tan monstruoso, tan fuera-de-escala. Hay un momento emocionante donde se enciende y... Por una vez el factor humano acompaña más que bien e incluso emociona. Al fin! Volver a los orígenes, al final de la segunda guerra mundial es otro acierto. Pensé que después de Mad Max: Fury Road no volvería a sentir el mismo vértigo y la misma emoción con ninguna película más, pero pasó; gracias Gojira. La vi hace unas semanas pero me olvide de subir algo sobre "Gojira -1.0" aka "Godzilla Minus One", que la verdad esta bastante buena. Está protagonizada por Ryunosuke Kamiki, Minami Hamabe, Munetaka Aoki & Kuranosuke Sasaki. Adaptada y Dirigida por Takashi Yamazaki. Japón, en crisis y reconstrucción, tras el fin de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, es atacada por un monstruo nacido tras los experimentos y pruebas de la bomba atómica. La verdad que muy entretenida version. Pela primeira vez em um filme de monstros, eu não torci pelo monstro. A obra de Takashi Yamazaki consegue transmitir a dor e a vergonha de um país abalado moral e economicamente. Em seu argumento, sentimos todo o apreço pelos personagens, que apesar das atuações, nos importamos. Isso é raro para um filme de Kaiju. O Godzilla é absurdo e terrível, meio plastificado, mas muito amedrontador, sendo o mais palpável de toda a franquia, graças aos efeitos visuais. São mínimas as sequências que parecem realmente CGI. O desfecho consegue ser emocionante, o filme apela para a forçação do drama de um dos arcos narrativos, porém funciona, me fez derramar algumas lágrimas em um filme de lagarto gigante. Esse filme é uma resposta a como Hollywood está deturpando a imagem do monstrão, assim como uma resposta a Oppenheimer. Watched #HowlsMovingCastle (2004) : Hayao Miyazaki's fascinating world of war, love, sorcery, and curse. I enjoyed it more than his other works. Miyazaki needs no further introduction; he is a world-famous director for his animated films that have been hailed as universal classics (not that I agree). I personally didn't like those films—that is, as classics. That doesn't mean they were bad. That's one of the reasons that kept me away from Howl's Moving Castle, because I failed to understand the hype around his other films that I watched with high expectations but didn't reach that certain level. I get it; it's some kind of phenomenon in Japanese cinema and animation cinema, and rightfully so, but that isn't enough to get such high ratings. Anyways, I still made my way to watch Howl's Moving Castle, and thankfully, this one did not disappoint. Out of all the Miyazaki films I have seen, I enjoyed this one the most. It's fascinating, it's mystical, it's magical, and despite having all those theories of sorcery, demons, witches, curses, love, kisses, and time travel, Howl's story has something of its own. Maybe, heart. I am not being technical here, but logically, the story had a heart and moving drama in the right amount. The visual effects were great. That castle thing was really nice to see. Not just that, but those battleships, Queen's crystal globe, Howl's bird version, and Calcifer—we have a lot of things to cherish. The screenplay has a grip, despite some slow portions in the middle, and then there is an action-packed finale to enthral us with its cinematic appeal. The characters have been structured smartly. Sophie has three looks, sometimes mixed, and that's what we call the entanglement of multiple personalities in one character. The same goes for Howl's character. When you have so many things well established and constructed, it's too much for an animated flick, I guess. Miyazaki believed in the same. Ok time to relax tonight after work and watch some movies! First up from 2023, "Godzilla Minus One"! I figured now that I have my 4K Blu-ray of the film it’s time to finally check it out and see how it looks! It feels amazing having the latest entry in Toho’s Godzilla series in my collection at long last! Sure this release has no subtitles but with how many times I’ve seen it I know the story very well so I’ll get to experience the movie thoroughly without having to read anything for once! Can’t wait for it to get a US release though, hopefully will get some news about that soon!
