ANNOUNCEMENT 📣 In just a couple weeks I will be heading to Birmingham to compete at the IBSA World Games. This major competition will be my first step towards qualifying for Paris 2024; a goal I set 3 years ago when I first started judo. Preparing for such an important competition requires a lot of training that makes juggling both training multiple times a day and work difficult. Iconic Transformation! 💥 @bribabe16 Even surprised herself when she put her progress photos side by side. Sometimes we don’t notice how much has changed because we see it so gradually every day… until you put the photos next to each other and realize what those photos mean to you. “This is wild to me 😅 Seeing this change has proven to myself that I am much more capable of so many that I thought were out of my reach. It gives me to confidence to keep pushing myself out of my comfort zone and continue to grow both psychically and mentally. The doctors say you have two years to regain as much as you can and this proves that progress is forever and as long as your heart is in it, almost anything is possible. (I started my health and fitness journey almost 10 years post SCI) Before this program I thought I was stuck with my thick thighs but these photos are proof that even with limited mobility you can take back control of your body and the way you want to feel about yourself and in life in general.” Changing the way someone feels about themselves is where it all begins. Her progress proves to her that she is way more capable than she used to give herself credit for, and it also shows others what is possible! Mental Note Monday🧠🤗 It’s a new week and you may have woken up with old concerns. But sis/bro, before you head out today I want to bring somethings to your remembrance. Even with memory loss I still have a vivid memory of God’s Grace and favor. I want you to take a few moments and think about all of the most uncomfortable, vulnerable, and painful places that you were able to make it through. Yea, I know! Our creator did all of that, and he is about to bring you through this storm that you’re facing today. Look down at your feet and be reminded that your steps are ordered and your path has been laid. Although, you see weapons forming be reminded that they never prosper. There’s power in your feet , let alone your presence. Do you even know that when you walk into rooms the floors tremble, peoples ghost get scared and the atmosphere shifts. When you step outside the sun shines brighter, the birds sing louder and the branchs and leaves on the trees are honored because they acknowlwedge that a queen/king is breathing the oxygen that they produce. Today I encourage you to stand in it, rehearse your previous breakthroughs and then walk it out. Know that when your legs and feet are weak God is there to hold you up. He is El Roi, so believe me when I say he sees all things. Despite what you may feel, your are not alone. Stop wondering why they didn’t help you, marginalized your input, tried to condemn you, joined forces to break you and even rejected you. Its all a part of the plan sis! You must understand that rejection is a form of protection. Only God is going to get the glory for what you about to walk out of and the blessing you are about to walk into. Know that even in the mist of mess there is a message that you must grasp to take to the next level. RElax your shoulders, unclinch your jaws, turn on some music and let GOd!!! The doctors gave us lists of all the problems she would face, things she wouldn't be able to do. The 9 years of her life so far have been full of her showing us everything she CAN do. The past two years, Ruth has participated in para track and field. She's given up her free time to train. She focused on learning techniques and skills to help her improve. This year she set an ambitious goal to qualify for the Jr. Nationals, and we promised her if she qualified we'd find a way to get her there. And she ended up qualifying in 5 events, two track events and three field events! Now I can definitely say "Athlete" is added to the long list of things she can do." I thought for a long time about making this post. I couple of weeks ago, out of #curiousity, I searched the name of my own #disability on #instagram. I’ve always been very open about my #cripidenity #disabilitystruggles #invisibledisability but rarely I mention it’s name. What I have is rare. It is called #fibularhemimelia It effects about 1 in 50,000 and more males. I was shocked when I saw the search-results. Most of the posts were about #kids #toddlers who were #amputees (which is one of the treatment-options). I could not relate or identify with the hashtag about my own disability. When I was born, decisions were made about my body because I was too young to decide myself. The choice was made to go for #multiplesurgeries #ilizarov #ilizarovframe Today my leg looks like a #constallation of steel and healing. The #chronicpain is manageable. I can almost do everything I want, yet there is a price that I’ve payed. This post is for all the people who feel an exception in the exception. Cerebral Palsy or CP is what I was diagnosed with when I was born. It was caused by an accident at birth. I was without partial oxygen for five minutes causing my brain not to develop correctly. So if I seem a little nuts you know why!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I’m not complaining though because I could have died. I’m gonna squeeze every bit out of life as I can. I’m not going to sit on the sidelines in my wheelchair I’m going to go do because if I don’t go do who’s going to do it for me? I have had severe rheumatoid arthritis for 13 years. . . . . I have never been openly judged before until now. Just because I don't "look" a certain way doesn't mean I don't struggle. Maybe I should have shown the cashier my hip replacement scars instead of letting her think I'd been drinking? Maybe I should've pitched a fit about it? Or maybe I should just let it go because it's not that big of a deal? . . . .I'm mentally choosing to let it go. she didn't tell me the exact reason why she thought I'd been drinking already. I didn't tell her I have a chronic illness. I guess we're both at a loss? The jokes on her cuz I have extra ciders in my fridge. . . .
