Working on the finishing touches with our team. This past week has been challenging but we've all accomplished a lot. This NASA NCAS program has tested us to see how we handle ourselves while balancing group dynamics, mission restrictions, and priority deadlines for a simulated lunar mission. I’m sure this is barely a taste of what a real-world NASA project might be like but I would absolutely recommend the NCAS program to anyone who might be interested. I appreciate my group and all of the wonderful NASA employees that we've been able to network with. Michaela is one our most active members on the team, she brings great energy and has the responsibility of taking on two roles, but that hasn't stopped her from getting things done! She has created many more graphics including our background and Artemis mission patch! Ian keeps track of our team's budget. He's kept a close eye on what we buy and informs before we make a purchase. Although Ian has one role he consistently makes an effort to actively help where he can! Sebastian is like our overseer, it's always great to have someone there to revise our work and makes a contribution with his efforts to the team. In the communication department, Reece carefully selected High and Low gain antennas, alongside the Main Memory Card, ensuring seamless data transmission. For power solutions, he extensively investigated solar panel setups and delved into the intricacies of Fuel Cells and electrolysis for Hydrogen fuel generation. After thorough deliberation with the team, Reece concluded that a solar system would suffice for our mission's power needs. In the realm of rocketry, Reece conducted detailed research on Retro Rockets and rocket engine reusability. Ultimately, he determined that for our mission, the expense and resources required for reusable rockets were unnecessary. Hello there! Welcome to the Artemis Green IG Page! We are a team formed in a program named the NASA Community College Aerospace Scholars. (NCAS) NCAS is a 3 mission program that challenges us, in more ways than one, to be part of something bigger than ourselves. These missions focus on NASA's goals, collaboration, and career pathways. This program so far has provided us with the opportunity to advance our capabilities in STEM and prepare students, like us, for better representation in all sorts of STEM fields. My experience in #NCAS2023 gave me the opportunity to learn more about the NASA mission directorates and develop a detailed plan for launching my future NASA career. I am so thankful for the leadership and guidance of my NCAS specialists Mike Tinich (Mission 1) and Danielle Kozlowski (Mission 2) as well as the amazing support provided by my Mission 2 team's mentor Luke Staab. The NCAS program has been designed to give community college students an in-depth, guided tour of the career possibilities at NASA, provide students the opportunity to network with NASA professionals, and to give students hands-on experience working to plan a NASA mission in a collaborative, interdisciplinary team environment. These experiences provide a strong foundation that can be built upon through other NASA workforce development programs such as the NASA L'SPACE program along with NASA OSTEM and Pathways internships. Now, less than one year after the start of my NCAS experience, I am amazed by the doors that this experience has opened for me. I am a proud NCAS and L'SPACE program alumnus, have completed a NASA LUCY Mission internship, serve as a Programmatics Mentor for the NASA L'SPACE Mission Concept Academy, and have recently been selected as the Lead Systems Engineer for the Texas A&M University ThinkTank team competing in the NASA RASC-AL competition under the Lunar Prospector theme.
