Meet our Public Affairs Officer!!!! RACHEL ALVARADO!! HER EXPERIENCE: As starting off with networking it all starts with your team as they are the first group of people that you get to meet and work with. Afterwards you are the people that look at your work and learn what they offer and as well Nasa has many guest speakers to talk to and ask your questions. I can not say I have been afraid to ask a question as it may not be answered more like what right question could I ask the speakers next. Also the way we have been making our final project with my team has been interesting because it feels like a game. As doing the bonus day assignments we gain money then we can buy cards to include in the project to show it off to the NASA panel. To me feels like a game of monopoly and has been very interesting discussing with my group on what to do next. Meet our Mission Shedulist!! JUAN ALVAREZ!! HIS EXPERIENCE My experience so far at the NCAS Mission 2 has been Great I had the chance to network with amazing people around the country. I have learned a lot of stuff from Nasa and the people who work at Nasa. I noticed the people who work at NASA are passionate individuals who are interested in space exploration. They inspired me and gave me a lot of reasons to follow my dreams and keep working toward one day to help science and space exploration. NASA does a lot of good for the sake of humanity and the collaboration between many talented individuals from diverse backgrounds can create things that seem impossible. The NCAS Mission 2 is also a collaborative work that pushes students around the world in just six days to create a mission that can land a rover on Mars. Working on the finishing touches with our team. This past week has been challenging but we've all accomplished a lot. This NASA NCAS program has tested us to see how we handle ourselves while balancing group dynamics, mission restrictions, and priority deadlines for a simulated lunar mission. I’m sure this is barely a taste of what a real-world NASA project might be like but I would absolutely recommend the NCAS program to anyone who might be interested. I appreciate my group and all of the wonderful NASA employees that we've been able to network with. Meet our Payload Specialist!! NATHAN ALMAGER!! His experience: I would describe my NCAS Mission 2 experience overall as a great insight to how a major company or corporation might run a group or team to produce a final project. The vast amount of information needed to pull of a successful mission in such short time could not be accomplished through just one or two people, so it requires a full team to produce a functional product or presentation. This experience has also shown me the amount of time and effort required by everyone in the team. This mission is not something to take lightly as it is full of actual jobs and careers of many people who do this daily. As far as inspiration, I have definitely gained confidence in my ability to more forward to an internship or career in these fields or engineering. This week has been very rewarding working alongside my crew members. This is mission 2 of the NASA Community College Aerospace Scholars Program. I want to give a #shoutout to my crew members for their hard work this week. First I want to acknowledge Kalon Williams for his contribution managing our budget and doing mechanical engineering research to help us select the correct instruments for our mission to Mars. I also want to give special acknowledgment to my crew member Angela Plowman for the hard work and dedication she has put in as lead engineer. She has coordinated efforts to ensure mission success along with conducting her own research as systems engineer. Meet our Computer Engineer!! ETHAN NGUYEN!! HIS EXPERIENCE: Before coming into mission 2, I was expecting mission 2 to be quite time intensive with its description. However, when I was actually thrown into the Lastly, I expected the groups to be a lot less collaborative and more “do it yourself” (The groups being just a symbol), but I was surprised to know how much communication means in the realm of not just NASA or NCAS, but through simulated engineering job life too. Overall, the NCAS experience compared to my expectations has quite exceeded my expectations because with each coming mission, day, and task, there was always something new to learn about or do regarding this program.range of activities on the first day of mission 2, I realized that it was more than just writing down my response to a certain prompt of new information on the NASA website, but it was actually a challenging yet fulfilling series of collaborative activities. Compared to mission 1, mission 2 was a lot more “hands-on”, in a way in which I am now actually able to speak with a group of like-minded individuals and communicate with them on a project that we can all call our own. The whole system of Mission 2 definitely caught me off guard too since I thought we were going to use a simulation to actually create our rover however I found the card and budgeting system to be something similar to what I thought of, it all reminds me of a TCG card game. #NCAS2024Explore #Mars #cerritoscollege #MUREP
Meet our Mechanical Engineer! LIANA ALVAREZ 💻👩💻 Her experience: I would describe my NCAS Mission 2 experience as a mock work project with NASA. The purpose of this event is to give students the opportunity to learn how a team operates to accomplish a mission in a NASA workplace, so it is ultimately a good learning experience. What I find very useful about this event is understanding how much goes into a single mission. For example, it requires several team members to constantly communicate what materials they need, how to make the science work as much as possible, and how much money will go into it. Even though this experience is just six days, it requires a lot of work and time; it really gives you an in-depth look into why NASA missions take years to complete. For power solutions, he extensively investigated solar panel setups and delved into the intricacies of Fuel Cells and electrolysis for Hydrogen fuel generation. After thorough deliberation with the team, Reece concluded that a solar system would suffice for our mission's power needs. In the realm of rocketry, Reece conducted detailed research on Retro Rockets and rocket engine reusability. We are currently in Mission 2: Explore In this mission we are tasked with presenting our ideas for NASA's Artemis II mission back to the moon! The team is hard at work with gathering information, attending weekly meetings, presenting all sorts of ideas, and while maintaining a schedule within our personal lives.
