A train on the Moon may soon become a reality as space agencies like NASA plan bolder and more ambitious missions to establish fully functioning bases on the lunar surface. NASA aims to construct the first-ever fully functioning railway station on the Moon to facilitate reliable, autonomous, and efficient payload transport across the lunar surface. Dubbed the Flexible Levitation on a Track (FLOAT), this system will utilize magnetic levitation technology over a 3-layer flexible film track. Unlike traditional trains on Earth, FLOAT will consist of unpowered magnetic robots that levitate over a graphite layer and passively float over tracks using diamagnetic levitation. According to NASA, these FLOAT robots will have no moving parts and will levitate over the track to minimize lunar dust abrasion or wear, unlike conventional lunar robots with wheels, legs, or tracks. Additionally, these tracks will unroll directly onto the lunar regolith to avoid the need for major on-site construction. The design of the FLOAT robots will enable them to transport payloads of varying shapes at a speed of 0.5 meters per second. Moreover, a large-scale FLOAT system will be capable of moving up to 100,000 kg of regolith multiple kilometers per day. Questa zona è caratterizzata da un'intensa attività geomagnetica che può avere effetti drammatici su satelliti e altri veicoli spaziali che la attraversano. 🧲 La SAA è un'area dove il campo magnetico terrestre è sensibilmente più debole rispetto ad altre parti del mondo. Questo indebolimento è causato da variazioni nella struttura della Terra e nella sua magnetosfera, che a loro volta sono influenzate da processi complessi che avvengono nel nucleo del nostro pianeta. 🛰️ Quando i satelliti e le stazioni spaziali passano attraverso questa "zona di pericolo", possono sperimentare anomalie nei loro sistemi elettronici, perdere dati o subire danni a causa dell'aumento dell'esposizione alle radiazioni cosmiche e solari. 🚀 Questo fenomeno è così significativo che il famoso Telescopio Spaziale Hubble viene regolarmente spento quando attraversa l'Anomalia per prevenire danni ai suoi strumenti! EXTREMELY BRIGHT AURORA It was really a spectacle, something similar happened in 2003 but this was something incredible. The best part was after midnight. Red glow almost all over the sky. On the horizon, the classic green glow. Just breathtaking. I never imagined that I didn't have to go to Norway or Iceland see the Aurora, but just stay in the Czech Republic.
