🚀 Astronomical SHOUTOUT 🌟 Opportunity Gold Crew’s mentor Glenn Medina “Glenn is currently stationed at the NASA Marhall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, AL, where he is working as a ISS Flight Controller (Timeline Change Officer). This past week he has given our team his time, patience, and expertise on mission planning and design with NASA on top of fulfilling his duties in his role. Hopping into team meetings at all times of the day to answer our questions and ensure we had a successful mission, Glenn has gone above and beyond to support us through our NCAS Mission 2 Simulation Experience. 🚀 Meet the crew member of ‘Opportunity Gold’ from NCAS 2024: 🌟Isaac Lee “Hi I’m Isaac! I’m pursuing a computer engineering degree and am transferring this Fall to University of California Riverside. I joined NCAS because I want to work with STEM peers and simulate what it would be like to work on a mission. I’ve been learning how to code independently and through my courses I’m taking at college. I have an interest in robotics and am teaching myself how to code Arduino projects. I came to NCAS because I am interested in a career in systems engineering where I can be part of the design, development, and implementation of operating systems. I have been part of a variety of hands-on projects such as website development, automotive electrical systems integration, and Arduino multi-sensor projects. This coming summer I will be interning at NIWC Pacific as part of their internship program. As I am just getting started, I want to continue learning and absorbing as much knowledge in the world of computation. I’m currently studying at Mt. San Jacinto College, and I came to NCAS because I am interested in a career in the computer engineering field. I have been involved in my school’s Computer Science Club, where we engaged in discussions on computing, technology, and programming theory. I’ve also been involved with the robotics club, where we participated in the VEX robotics tournaments. The thought of joining NCAS was natural for me, as I am also deeply drawn to environmental engineering, and NASA goals for a more sustainable earth align with mine. I came to NCAS because I am passionate about technology and the environment. I want to combine my interests to better understand ways to combat human-caused climate change with data and satellites. I have been involved in my college’s STEM Club and am soon volunteering as a mentor in Stanford’s online intro to computer science course. I’ve developed skills in coding with Python, Java, and C++ and am starting to get into Arduinos. My Journey started in the Air Force as a Nuclear Weapons Specialist, where I developed a strong foundation in technical problem-solving and project management. I later explored healthcare as a nursing student but it was a space-related class that ignited my passion for Aerospace Engineering. I’m currently doing NCAS to further my education and develop an understanding of all that NASA does and to learn more about that industry. I’m also actively seeking a chemical research internship to broaden my knowledge and skills.
