Last Thursday, we spent our 1st day out exploring the Hot Springs, AK area. A very large portion of this city is owned and managed by the National Parks Service so, our first stop was the NPS Hot Springs Visitors Center. The visitors center is located downtown in the old Fordyce Bathhouse. The Fordyce originally opened March 1, 1915. This bathhouse is the largest ever constructed on bathhouse row. It has three floors, two courtyards, and a basement under most of the building. The Fordyce became the first bathhouse on the Row to go out of business when it suspended operations on June 30, 1962. It was later extensively restored and is now the NPS welcome center and a historically furnished museum. We really enjoyed our tour of the Fordyce. It has some VERY strange equipment in some of the rooms. Many people believed the mineral water flowing from the natural hot springs had some kind of magical healing powers. The Big Guy This guy is the new definition of Grumpy Ol'Man. He has slipped right into Ol'Man Riggz' possition seamlessly. His irritability has really blown up and has become extra notable over the last few weeks. Aside from age, the only thing we can think of is that it is due to discomfort from his other hind leg. This guy is now showing sure signs that it's time to proceed with his second TPLO surgery by favoring it and unloading weight onto his opposite side. We are just contemplating on when the best time for us to do it is. We were really hoping to hold off until September again, but I'm not sure we can handle the "Grumpy" that this guy is turning into. We plan to do a trial of some pain meds to see if we can improve this guys mood asap. Not only did he not enjoy his camping weekend, but he also set everyone else off regularly as they fed off of his reactions to passerbyers. Then, when at home, he is starting to grumble at all the cats way more as they walk by, even before they 'might' touch him, and then also getting grumpy with the other puppers if they go near him while he's resting 😮💨. Nærøyfjord is the narrowest fjord in the world and the namesake of this UNESCO World Heritage area. Throwback Thursday to September 2018. Just over 2 months after losing my husband and in need of a break from life, I went on a cruise with my stepson and his partner for his 40th birthday. Whilst in Francois NP we dropped into the Peron Homestead which was a working pastoral station in the early 1900s. This historical attraction provides an insight into life on a sheep farm during the earlier part of the last century. Allow 45 minutes to walk the self guided trail around the precinct visiting the shearing shed and stock yards. You might even like to have a soak in the artesian hot tub on the grounds complete with bbqs and picnic area. This will be my last post for the Branson MO area and tomorrow I will start posting about our current location in Hot Springs National Park. I just wanted to make a little post about the campground where we spent 14 days. This was absolutely a lovely park, with the largest marina I’ve ever seen in a start park. The lake itself covers over 40,000 surface acres, creating more than 800 miles of shoreline. It winds back and forth around the Ozark mountains and creates a very unique lake. One morning around 6am we heard an announcer at the marina behind us staging and calling out bass boats for a fishing tournament. Last boat number I heard him call was boat #192. Took 45 min to get them all out of the starting gate.
