He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance Performance and Choreography with a minor in Philosophy from East Carolina University. Currently, he is dedicated to furthering his expertise by pursuing a Master of Fine Arts in Dance at Sam Houston State University. Jacob’s scholarly focus lies in exploring the practical and phenomenological applications of movement improvisation within the realm of contemporary dance, forming the core of his thesis research. Jacob is currently in his third season as a company member with Noblemotion, based in The Woodlands, TX. Prior to this, he spent six years dancing in Boston, where he was a member of Urbanity Dance, Prometheus Dance, and Lorraine Chapman the Company. His commitment to improvisation extends beyond performance, having spent hundreds of hours dancing and teaching with Contact Improvisation Boston, notably leading weekly jams and serving as the Artist in Residence for their annual Fall Jam in 2022. 【CIあいちコンタクト・インプロビゼーション ラボ&ジャムin京都_第二回】 昨年12月に続き、5月26日（土）にCIラボ&ジャムを京都で開催致しました。今回はみなよさんにもお越し頂き、りえさんとあいさんの3名でファシリテーターをして頂きました。 参加者はなんとっ！！！14名でした！！まったくの初めてという方は5名いらっしゃいました。 ラボ＆ジャムの「ラボ」は、講師がレクチャーするのではなく、みんなで研究しましょう！というスタンス。国内外の講師から教わったワークをみんなで振り返ったり、参加者が気になるテーマを共有して、それらのテーマについてもみんなで研究をしていくという…このような活動を続けておられるCIあいちは本当に素晴らしいと思います！！ 前回のラボ&ジャムは比較的顔見知りのメンバーが多かったのですが、今回は初めての方やCIがお久しぶりの方、そして前回参加してくださって今回を楽しみにして頂いていた方...とても新鮮な顔ぶれでした。皆さん、どんどんCIあいちの世界に溶け込んでいかれてましたし、コンタクトインプロビゼーションって本当に楽しい！っていう感想を頂戴することもできました。 CIあいちメンバー、そして参加者さんのそれぞれの気持ちやエネルギーが心地よく融合し、とても素晴らしい時間となりました。 「次はいつあるのですか～？」なんて大変嬉しい質問も早速頂きました。次は…年末あたりに開催を考えています～😊❣️決まり次第お知らせしたいと思います❣️ みなよさん、りえさん、あいさん、そして参加者の皆様、ありがとうございました～❤ #コンタクトインプロビゼーション #contactimprovisation #ciあいち

Warszawa / day 2 Our first full day in Warsaw! Mokotów is our neighbourhood and needed to be explored printwise. We started the new archive project with "pari-pari STADTSTEMPEL archive card Nr. 000001" at the Palace of Culture and Science the evening before and endet the day with Nr. 000048. City sounds, metro, nature, sun, thunder, structures, signs and dance accompanied us gently. How can we integrate dance into printing? Is printing dance? Is movement out of touch like printing, because someones elbow squeezes my leg? I think that the physical compression, taking weight—that is quite unique. Even the way the body is experienced in that sense. Even though a lot of other movement forms have partnering where weight is taken, either because of the positions of the weight-taking or the way that the body responds to taking weight, whether it absorbs the weight, whether it feels compression, or whether it’s about muscle strength. In this case, a lot of different body systems are being stimulated and being asked to operate. Whether the level of body tone—are you completely relaxed? Is the body soft? Is it relating to its structure? Is it feeling its organization skeletally? Are you feeling the surface of the skin very lightly? Is that being stimulated? The body is being stimulated by the dancing and the interaction with a partner on a lot of different levels—the body and the being. We will explore what spaces exist between partners in a contact dance and how paying attention to these spaces can expand the possibilities in a touch based duet. How we approach and depart CI dances will be articulated through spacial considerations and configurations. We will look at how space frames our dances by exploring proximity and the influence of bodies in group formations. The goal is to connect to a broader spectrum of possibilities in CI and expand dancing awareness. As always with my workshops, you can choose your own level of challenge. コンタクトインプロビゼーションのWSに誘っていただき参加した。 福祉とのコラボをされているダンサーさんがいたことから、かれこれ10年くらい興味をもっていたけれど、機会をずっと逃していた。 なに！？この不思議な世界は？？という興味と、絶対嫌！という感情が入り混じる複雑な感覚を抱いた。 知らない人から触られること、肌が他者と触れ合うことがとても苦手なので、動きの中で触れ合い、密着しあって恍惚とされている人たちを不思議な気持ちで眺めていた。 と同時に、この感覚を掴めたら、自分はだいぶ生きやすくなるのでは？という予感もあった。 もちろんダンス経験の深さによって、即興の動きや参加できる時間は変わってくるとは思うけれど、たとえ踊れない人だとしても、その場に参加しようと触れ合いの中に入って行く、そして無理せずそこに居続ける態度は、日々の暮らしの中の態度に通じてくるように感じた。 これはなかなか深い内観のツールであり、自己信頼と他者信頼のバロメーターにもなり得るなと感じた。 私は基本的に好きな音楽や気持ち良い空間で自然と生まれる動きを1人で味わうのがとても自分らしいと思っているけれど、コンタクトインプロビゼーションだけは、やっぱり興味深いなぁと思う。 他者を感じながら生まれる動き。 ぴったりくっつかなくても良くて、手だけでも、体の一部でも、そこから感じるものから生まれる動き。 アクロバティックだったり、密着するのはやっぱり苦手だったけど(特に異性とは)自分なりの距離感で動ける日が来たら、と思うとワクワクするので、またWSがあれば参加してみたいし、講師の方から教えていただいた、アジア的な繊細な感覚を大切にしている勝部ちこさんと鹿島聖子さんのWSにもいつか参加してみたい。

Taller de ConTacTai Chi Chuan & Jam impro Una vez más, quiero expresar mi gratitud por la confianza, dedicación y disponibilidad de todas las personas que participaron e hicieron posible este octavo taller temático de Contact, en esta ocasión, ConTact con Taichí Chuan. Fue una tarde en la que pudimos conectar con la suavidad y fluidez de nuestros cuerpos. El taichí es un arte marcial complejo que nos enseña, a través del concepto del yin-yang, a ser suaves con las personas, pero sin dejar de ser firmes en nuestras conductas. Reflexionando sobre la tarde, destaco la resiliencia de las personas por asimilar la filosofía de los maestros orientales y cómo aplicaron la suavidad en las dinámicas del taller. Aprendimos a ser flexibles para resolver los desafíos que nos presenta esta disciplina y también a mantenernos firmes en nuestras direcciones. Además, pudimos conectar con esos espacios en los que el movimiento y el juego nos hace recuperar nuestra infancia. Este ciclo de talleres sigue siendo una motivación para reflexionar y buscar, junto con otras voces, generar comunidad. For this movement lab, I would like to invite you to come and play with us, in a safe space, with different kinds of movement and tasks in solo, in pairs, and with a group to explore movements and ourselves through dialogue “Taiwa” , using movement as nonverbal communication tool.
