I was supposed to be going for an Indian tonight with my family but my Mum isn’t feeling well so we got Pizza Hut takeaway instead 😋 Breakfast was two Bliss bars - one chocolate delight and one chewy marshmallow, lunch was DELICIOUS - I had golden veg rice topped with jalapeños, with chicken pakora and salad, and I drizzled yoghurt and mint sauce over it. Can’t wait to have it for lunch again tomorrow! Finally got off the rest of the 2lb gain a couple of weeks ago 🥳 Very happy to have had a loss this week given I’m off work and have had an afternoon nap nearly every day, plus a Dominos, and two meals out with puddings 😅 the exercise has definitely helped to keep me balanced and I’ve tried hard to make sure everything else I’ve eaten has been normal and healthy ish! Day 152 of 366 Oh what a day! A very expensive day 🥲 Car service, MOT and new brake pads…my bank account is crying some serious tears! Oh well…I did a 60 minute walking workout with the step this morning and 15 minutes on the exercise bike…my legs and feet are quite sore and achy so I had a nice hot bath tonight with some magnesium salts so hopefully that has helped 😊 I started a new book in the bath, Desperately Seeking Summer by @mandybaggot - I feel like I am very much desperately seeking summer at the moment, given that the weather hasn’t got the memo that it is June tomorrow!!! 🙈 I ended up binging most of Red Eye last night (and then subsequently couldn’t sleep 😅) so I’m just finishing off the final episode now, it’s been a good watch! 🇬🇧 this post is a lil love declaration to the bakeries and cafes of Copenaghen 🫶🏼 I visited a couple of weeks ago and absolutely loved the hygge cafe vibes. I love that visiting a bakery is such an integrated part of the culture and people’s daily routines. The attention to detail and design of the shops is super cool too. A couple of my friends who live in Denmark have cold water swimming and visiting a bakery as party of their daily routine before going to work! Dream. I must say, compared to Italy / UK, the cafes were a lot more expensive and generally speaking I found the staff less chatty and friendly. Finding GF options was not as easy, but I did walk for over an hour to a dedicated GF bakery and it was worth it! Day 150 of 366 A delicious meal out at @hickoryssmokehouse tonight 😋 I love how reassuring they are for coeliacs - a good sized gluten free menu, managers who come over with an iPad showing you all the ingredients of the things you’ve ordered confirming that they’re definitely gluten free, allergy flags in everything…it just feels so safe and their knowledge and understanding of coeliac disease seems to be really strong. Tonight I had a watermelon, feta and cajun chicken salad for my main dish. It was very tasty and filling. Then for pudding I had the zingy lemon meringue waffles which were absolutely delish!!! There is no medication that can help if we get ‘glutened’, we have to endure the symptoms and we have to deal with the consequences whilst our body attacks. 🔸 Symptoms - these will differ for every person (please don’t presume because someone isn’t showing discomfort that they aren’t experiencing discomfort) and may include diarrhoea, constipation, exhaustion, migraines, sickness, swollen tummy, restless legs, mouth ulcers and horrendous dizziness. 🔸 Check the label - look for a certified Gluten Free label. Alternatively, check ingredients for BROW - Barley, Rye, Oats and Wheat. It’s now a law to have the top 14 allergens highlighted .. gluten containing being one of them 🔸 Cross contamination - This is very important!!!! When serving us food please make sure it is safe - chopping boards, wooden utensils, toasters, baking trays, butters, jams etc this will more than likely not be safe in someone else’s home and makes us anxious at the thought of being in someone else’s hands. We really are not being precious when we refuse the last biscuit from the gluten free pack - yes the biscuits are gf but I don’t know whose hands have gone in before! Please don’t think I’m being precious when I wipe a plate clean because it’s been standing on the side next to all the bread and prep areas. A better understanding of the seriousness of allergens needs to be shared… a lifelong condition which means every time you eat you question is this okay? Is not something we choose. Day 149 of 366 Another rainy day 🌧️ Started the day off with breakfast out which was delicious - I tried to keep it as low cal as possible and had 1 rasher of bacon, 2 hash browns, a fried egg, and a portion of beans with a little glass of apple juice 🧃 Came home and felt like doing some steps, ended up doing 10k in 90 mins and now my feet are in bits 😅 literally just whacked on the @girlsaloud tour playlist, got my step out and got on with it - felt good after although my feet are blistered now 🥲 Had some lunch and a nap and then did my actual workout session - started with a 20 mins legs, bums and tums with @thebodycoach and then I did a 20 minute TABATA workout - 40 moves in 20 mins. Intense but I managed it! It’s a dedicated gluten-free cafe with several dairy-free options. I usually eat low-carb. But of course I had to try a few bites of each of these, and they were as tasty as they looked. Day 148 of 366 My day started with today’s workout - 20 minute HIIT with @thebodycoach followed by 20 minute walking workout with @rickbhullarfitness and then a 15 minute stint on the bike 🥵🥵 This evening I have had a very disappointing trip to @askitalian in Merry Hill. Shocking service - upon arrival the manager put one finger up to tell us to wait, and it all went downhill from there. Waiting ages for our order to be taken, staff who literally looked like they would rather be anywhere else, no one enquiring how our food was. I informed the server I have coeliac disease and she didn’t even give me the allergen information or inform me of what dishes were gluten free, I had to go online and look myself. Whilst there are lots of gluten free options, I didn’t feel reassured at all. We ordered puddings and my Mum’s tiramisu didn’t come with the baileys/coffee pouring shot that it was supposed to. When asked they said they’d make it - this took 20 minutes!!! The rest of us were long finished by the time it came. No apology either. Overall food was very average if even that - my gluten free bolognese tasted like a ready meal and the pasta was chewy. Just such a disappointing and EXPENSIVE experience, would not recommend and won’t be going back! Day 147 of 366 A very rainy Sunday 🌧️ I started the morning off with today’s workout - I did a 20 minute @thebodycoach HIIT followed by another 15 minute HIIT…it was a struggle, genuinely thought I was going to be sick at one point 🥵 but I got through it just about 😅 then I ended with a 25 minute 3000 step workout with @rickbhullarfitness which was much more doable 😅 Despite saying I was going to start a new book today, I’ve actually gone back to my current read. I’m now 73% through and am determined to finish it tonight! I hope everyone is enjoying Celiac Awareness Month. As we enter the last week, I wanted to end my series on a positive note. 5 Reasons I’m Grateful for Celiac Disease 💚 1. I learned to cook. ✅ Back in 2007, when my daughter was diagnosed, there were few restaurants with GF menus. If I was going to feed her something other than fruit and veggies, I had to learn how to make it. 2. I eat healthier. ✅ Because I’m not a gourmet cook, I tend to make simple meals with meat and veggies. I used to make things out of a box with unhealthy additives. 3. I feel better when I eat GF, and I like supporting my body. ✅ I have less fatigue, less aches and pains, less stomach aches and more energy. It feels good to nourish my body, especially after years of harming it with food that literally gave me a pain in the gut. 4. Grocery shopping takes less time. ✅ Being GF, I don’t get distracted in the supermarket because, frankly, most of the stuff is off limits. I stick to my list of safe foods, and I’m in and out of the store in no time. 5. We save money. ✅ Even though GF food typically costs more than regular food, if you buy less, you spend less. I don’t want to count the money I wasted on snacks I used to pick up at the gas station, or the hundreds of times we ate out—just because. On vacations, we grazed all day on junk food. Eating gluten free involves an enormous lifestyle change that comes with challenges, and, yes, some deprivation. I've been gluten free for over 5 years now and in that time I've had many a variety of gf chocolate cake 🎂 Safe to say that there's been a real mix of textures, tastes and consistencies. This one was sooo dry and crumbly that cutting it was like sawing through wood 🥴 (not made by me I should add 🙈) But my number one hack for dealing with this....pop it in the microwave for 30 seconds and you come out with a gooey, rich dessert thats just like it's been served up in a restaurant. Today is my daughter’s last day in school before she starts study leave for her GCSE’s. It’s emotional for me, as shortly both my children will have finished school and it makes me realise how quick they grow up It’s not very often it’s just me and my daughter at home in the morning. Day 144 of 366 Friday Eve! 🥳 One more day until half term begins 🤩 Really pleased with tonight’s workout 💪🏻 50 minutes in total…20 minute HIIT with @thebodycoach where I didn’t feel like I was going to be to pass out for once!!! 15 minutes on the exercise bike and then finished off with a 15 minute walking workout with @rickbhullarfitness 👣 felt good after it 🤩 My mum made gluten free cupcakes today 🧁 can’t wait to sample one with a cup of tea in a minute!
