“I’m 32 years old and from Belgium. I married my husband 2 years ago and we have a lovely home together. We are questioning whether or not to have a child. We both grew up in a family with parents with a high IQ and lot of ASD (autism spectrum disorder) characteristics. I had a a mother who was on edge a lot and a father who was mostly absent and didn’t even bother to be at my birthday parties, because he didn’t like a bunch of children running around. My husband experienced a childhood with parents who had a very low tolerance and were quick to throw a punch. We both have a high IQ and ASD characteristics. On the one hand, we love children, but on the other hand, we find it difficult to deal with unexpected changes. So we don’t know if having a child is a good idea. We absolutely want to avoid making the same mistakes as our own parents. If we have one we want to give it everything we didn’t and we don’t know if we are capable of that. We can’t imagine how having a child would affect us. That’s why we are in doubt. We will have a puppy soon and are waiting to see what effect this has on us. We are very happy now and wonder if a child would contribute to our happiness or would make us bump up against our limits of what we are able to handle. We feel it is a very important question to ask ourselves. KINDERFREIE LEBENSSCHULE Unsere Gästin in Episode 013 heisst Gabriela. Sie hat Jahrgang 1963 und wohnt in Zürich. Sie war 14 Jahre alt, als Gabriela für sich merkte, dass sie selbst keine Kinder haben möchte. Als sie dann etwas später eine Lehrstelle suchte, musste sie dennoch die schmerzhafte Erfahrung machen, dass ihr gewisse Berufswünsche verwehrt wurden, weil sie eine Frau war (und Kinder bekommen sollte). Doch sie fand ihren Weg und konnte ihre Kreativität zunehmend ausleben. Ihre Arbeit brachte auch einige Reisen mit sich. So weilte sie immer wieder für mehrere Wochen im asiatischen Raum. «Kurz vor der Menopause rief meine Gebärmutter» teilt Gabriela mit uns. Plötzlich war da doch noch ein ganz tiefer Kinderwunsch. In Gesprächen mit anderen Frauen fand sie dann heraus, dass sie nicht die einzige ist, die dies so empfand. Und, dass auch dies vorbei geht. Bis heute bereut sie es nicht kinderfrei unterwegs zu sein. In einigen Jahren wird sie pensioniert und Gabriela erzählt uns voller Freude, was sie mit der neu gewonnen Zeit noch anstellen möchte. 💜Am 23. Ich muss gestehen, dass ich manchmal #Ängste verspüre wenn ich an die Zukunft denke. Es liegt nicht an den gemeinen Prophezeiungen, die mir als kinderfreie Person an den Kopf geworfen werden à la „Ohne Kinder wirst du alleine sterben“. 😒 Nein, es liegt viel mehr an der Richtung in der sich die Politik bewegt. Laufend erhalte ich Meldungen in meinem Newsfeed zu sinkenden Geburtenraten und diese Meldungen sind aufgemacht als wäre es die größte Horrormeldung, die es gibt. Für mich ist die Meldung, dass die #Geburtenrate zurückgeht erst einmal nichts Schlimmes… bei 8 Milliarden Menschen auf diesem Planeten finde ich diese Entwicklung sogar begrüßenswert. Aber Politik und #Wirtschaft scheinen da anderer Meinung, schließlich sind sie auf Wachstum ausgerichtet. Wie wird das Leben für (kinderfreie) Frauen in den kommenden Jahren aussehen? Mal ganz realistisch betrachtet, was könnte die #Politik tun?: - Abtreibungen verbieten oder den Zugang weitestgehend erschweren? - Steuern für Personen ohne Kinder weiter erhöhen und im Gegenzug Familien weiter entlasten? - Den Zugang zu Verhütungsmitteln erschweren? Es ist nicht so, dass wir diese Entwicklungen nicht schon öfter in der Geschichte hatten. Einen kleinen Einblick hatte ich sogar schon in meinem Beitrag zur römischen Antike gegeben… die Idee kinderlosen und kinderfreien das Leben schwer zu machen, hat in diesem Sinne schon Tradition. Last night Mr Clarke had a day off work so we booked a lovely little child free night out. We went to the @_bishopsmillsalisbury_ for some food and drink using a gift card we had for Christmas from my brother and sister in law. The food was lovely and eating a meal without children was so calm and relaxing. We then popped into Sips and headed down to the winni gate later on to see some bands. Sarum rite and Gravel Pit were pretty good, it was nice to see some heavier bands back in Salisbury. I still get some anxiety about going out and seeing people, I'm not the same person I used to be but it was nice to see some old faces. The girls had a great home sleeping over at my parents house. Intellectually, I knew I could opt out of having kids, but I’m not sure that it felt like a real choice for me for a long time. I had almost zero examples of women who’d chosen a childfree path, and I’d internalized so many of the messages about childfree women that are prevalent in our society: selfish…misguided….unwomanly. Last night was amazing! The venue and owner couldn't have been nicer or more welcoming. Most of the time, when @jessepimpinellacomedy and I have shared the stage, it has been playing brother and sister characters in the fantastically funny character roasts @therealdestinrichardson produces. Anytime I get to hear Jesse perform standup comedy, it's a good time, and last night was no exception. How he engages an audience and the number of laughs he gets are just phenomenal. @therealdestinrichardson killed it! He had the audience in the palm of his hand. Not only did he perform a full headlining set. He was doing so well, and the audience was having such a good time that he stayed over and performed for another fifteen minutes on top of the half an hour.
