Scurry to Cramond 2024 A pretty special event, as this is where most of the Dibbers met last year. I didn’t run in 2023, but a last minute spot meant I finally took on the @scurryevents challenge tonight. Not going to lie, not my favourite route. Constant change in terrain: tarmac, grass, mud, pebbles, cobbles, sand. And two massive bottle necks, at the start and as you get on the causeway. 6ms idle time according to my watch. Definitely a day to get down to business! After an early dentist visit to deal with a cavity (👎🏼), it was off for the weekly long run. And, surprise, I actually took it easy AND maintained that easy feel throughout! Crazy, I know! Never happens but somehow I made it happen today. Ya never know what the hell is going to happen on a run. On a sadder note, this might be the end of long runs for this particular pair of kicks. They had a feel today in the later miles that told me the support wasn’t as strong in them. It’s been a good run but it might be time to limit them to six miles or lower in distance. 👟✨️Heel striking is landing on your heel (rearfoot) and having the rest of the foot follow. Landing on the rearfoot is often associated with a longer stride length and a higher impact force, as the heel absorbs much of the shock. Running shoes enable us to run heel-first on hard surfaces, as this is quite painful if you were to try doing it barefoot. ❓️✨️This raises some questions as to if our bodies are designed to heel strike. We’re not born with running shoes on, and they only really became popular with innovation from Nike in the 1960’s and 70’s. Nonetheless, it is by far the most common way of running, and how most runners naturally strike the ground. ➡️ Advantages The main advantage of heel strike running is that it aligns with the natural inclination of most distance runners. There is less of a learning curve if you don’t have to learn an entirely new foot strike. Heel striking also places less strain on the calf muscles, and there’s some evidence that it may be more efficient at slower running speeds. ➡️ Disadvantages The heel is a round ball, and thus has an inherent inconsistency when landed upon. There is also a tendency to overstride with heel striking, which has a braking effect because the foot lands out in front of you. For those have joined the cult of running & then further down the rabbit hole of HOKA running shoes, here is how I have made these bulky shoes narrower & lighter for a client. This patient was recommended to switch to these shoes due to osteoarthritis in her hip & ankle but her chiropractor but she just couldn’t drive her sports car in these shoes as the pedals are too close together. Obviously I asked permission but here is my idea for their modifications. Simply grinding the flared outer sole makes the HOKA 20mm or 2cm narrower. #GoKnightsGo ☀️💪🏻🥵 It was a HUMID morning in Florida and I definitely earned a cheat meal after the 6.2 miles I ran around the University of Central Florida. Although the temperature was only 72°, humidity was high at 96% and I pushed myself to complete the full lap around campus! 😎 It wasn’t my best 10K time but so far, it’s been my 2nd longest run of month and best time for a 10K distance in May. #facetofacefriday Welcome to who is known in the family as green Chris. After eating a well stacked plate of carvery he tackles a double size slice of those mahoosive cakes in the cabinet. The guy who would eat a mix grill then ask for a family apple with a jug of custard but just 1 spoon. Part legend, part pig. I don't really post about a 'weightloss journey' cos I always feel fat Chris is still me. Sometimes he disappears a little and times like now he's back and blobbier than before. I know I have a bad diet but my general busyness keeps it at bay within reason. But lately the running slipped, the strength work is nil and I'm eating worse. Add to that being ill for a week with fatigue, chest infection, hayfever and asthma my fitness is now fatness. I have managed over 100k of steps during that week tho. So tomorrow I'm out walking in the morning to stay a bit active and if a little jog takes me so be it. I want to get fat Chris back under control.
