Hay que cuidar no forzar la columna lumbar. Tras tener las dos manos apoyadas en el suelo debemos realizar un giro desde la zona abdominal, manteniendo la cadera en su posición inicial. Si el giro es el adecuado, no tendremos problema en elevar uno de los brazos, de lo contrario será muy dificultoso hacerlo. Esta asana proporciona fuerza en  piernas, abdomen, hombros y brazos además de flexibilidad en la cadera, apertura en el pecho y mejora del equilibrio. Si miramos GOMUKHASANA desde arriba, la forma en la que están colocados los pies (que serían los cuernos) y las rodillas (forman la boca), recuerda a la cara de una vaca; por eso se traduce como «Postura de Cara de Vaca». 📷 En esta variante flexionamos la columna con brazos hacia delante y codos en suelo. Es una postura en la que se estiran los músculos que unen el sacro con el trocánter del fémur en el interior de la pelvis, la musculatura abductora de los muslos y e incluso, los tobillos; en esta variante, también se estira la musculatura de la espalda. PASO A PASO: 👉🏻 Sentado en la esterilla. 👉🏻 Flexiona la pierna izquierda pasándola por debajo de la pierna derecha, colocando el borde externo del pie en el suelo, a la derecha, de manera que la planta «mire» hacia atrás. 👉🏻 Pon el muslo derecho sobre el izquierdo, flexionando la rodilla y poniendo el borde externo del pie en el suelo, a la izquierda. 👉🏻 Ajusta la posición de las piernas de tal modo que las rodillas queden una sobre otra, y los talones cerca del cuerpo, alineando los pies si se miran desde arriba y situando las piernas en la línea media del cuerpo. 👉🏻 Ambos isquiones han de estar en contacto con el suelo, alargando la columna y estabilizando la pelvis. 👉🏻.Manteniendo el alargamiento, flexionar desde las caderas para flexionar después la columna, conservando la alineación del cuello. 👉🏻Los codos buscan el suelo, con palmas abiertas y brazos paralelos al ancho de los hombros. Work-in yoga con Ambra 🪷 Questa è una variante che mi piace un sacco della posizione della faccia di mucca, ovvero #gomukhasana 🐮🥰 Come dico sempre, è lo yoga che si adatta al corpo e non il corpo che si adatta allo yoga: questa splendida disciplina olistica offre tutti gli strumenti per raggiungere ogni posizione sia nel presente che nel futuro! “As a yoga teacher, you must be able to do EVERYTHING”. 🤔 My answer was that I wasn’t sure what was meant by “everything” (especially as yoga is so much more than the physical practice) but I can do my version of postures.

That version is what feels right and is most effective for my body at that time. 🥰

I have limitations in my shoulder mobility (which is partly why I am so obsessed with shoulders and shoulder blades). This, combined with some extra kyphosis (rounding) in my upper spine, means that I cannot link my hands in Gomukhasana posture. So I use a strap or similar. This variation enables me to get the full effect without causing any unnecessary strain. ✅ ➡️ To see the “linked hands” version, swipe to see it demonstrated by @zoealisamay. You can see from our two photos the difference in the positioning of her arms to mine. Zoe is an amazing personal trainer in Surrey, who has the great combination of strength and mobility in her shoulders, resulting in an impressive handstand practice. ❤️ (She’s also a talented photographer @zoemillsphoto, but that’s for another post on another day).
