“Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is relax”. ~ Mark Black Life these days is hectic. 🤯 ▪️Hectic on a global level. ▪️Hectic on a national level. ▪️Hectic on a local level. ▪️Hectic on a professional level. ▪️Hectic on a personal level. So many of us are feeling overwhelmed with everything that is happening in every level of our lives, with every piece of information that is bombarding us. And this feeling of overwhelm can make us less productive which, in turn, makes us more overwhelmed. Yet it can be so difficult to switch off. This is why I have always loved to include Restorative Yoga in my own personal practice and also why I trained with @ashby_anna to learn how to share the practice with others. 💜 I will be at @triyogauk Chelsea every Wednesday evening at 7.30pm throughout the summer leading a Restorative Yoga class as a “Mid Week Reset”. (Anyone remember these yoga classes that I ran over the summer for a few years?!) 💫 WANT TO HEAR SOMETHING EMBARRASSING? 💫 ⭐ I’ve been a yoga teacher for 8 years now since being signed off work in TV for insomnia and anxiety. ⭐ Here’s the thing, when I was first starting out, I used to think that by being a yoga teacher my life would magically get better and the insomnia and anxiety would just go! ⭐️ However, I was running around teaching way too many classes a week, travelling all over London, totally stressed out! Luckily I soon learnt my lesson after a second period of burnout (sometimes you have to really be hit hard before you realise that the way you are living your life is just not worth it.) ⭐ I realised that in order to make the changes to live with less anxiety and build confidence, to get myself of sleeping pills and have a good night’s sleep, to stop living my life for others and instead allow myself to feel free and at ease… ⭐ AND in order to be able to run a successful wellness business where I could enjoy my life and enjoy my work… ⭐ My efforts needed to be spent on my inner world, not my outer world. ⭐ I’m happy to say, that having never thought I would get a good night’s sleep, I have learnt a huge amount along the way, so if you have any questions please leave them below! WHY I DO WHAT I DO “I think Jackie is the best yoga teacher around.. age UK mitcham has given us this golden opertunity. We’ll done Jackie” (sic) 😍😍😍 This heart-warming Google review by L.N., a regular at my Tuesday afternoon yoga class at Age UK Merton’s Elmwood Centre, really touched me. Her openness to try something different, to listen to her own body and be consistent in her practice is really producing results and I feel honoured that she has taken the time to leave these kind words. What are the results of a regular practice? 🔺It’ll be different for each individual, but we work on mobility, flexibility and strength, moving with our breath. 🔺But for many the main benefit is that they feel so much more relaxed at the end of the class than when they arrived. 🔺It’s a friendly and supportive class with a feeling of community. Some practice on a mat but most practice on a chair, and everyone finds the variation that works best for them. 💥 NOTE: The Elmwood Centre is closed next week for renovations but we’ll be back in action again on Tuesday 11th June. 🌞 SUMMER YOGA WORKSHOP 🌞 Super excited for this special summer session, where we’ll move through a yoga sequence designed to activate the solar plexus chakra - representing inner strength, vitality, stamina and power. We’ll begin with ‘pranayama’ (breath work), and end with a guided meditation. We will also have a philosophy discussion and (optional) herbal tea - a blend designed to harmonise the solar plexus. The first yoga class I ever taught - 2017! 🧘‍♀️ This day 7 years ago, the teacher never showed up to class. It was a morning class before work and everyone had gotten up extra early to do yoga before the day started. I remember sitting there waiting for the teacher to show up and the people running the event saying they couldn’t reach her and we may just have to cancel. If you’ve ever gotten up earlier on a work morning to attend a (cancelled) class you KNOW how frustrating it can be if you just end up in the office earlier having done nothing special with those extra hours 😹 I told the organisers that I was in the middle of my yoga teacher training and happy to teach - nervously stating that it would be my first time teaching in public. I’ll never forget how BUZZING I was during and after class. The feeling of being so proud after teaching a group of strangers (I was so nervous I’d forget how to structure a class as I had nothing prepared). One major lesson I learned was that sometimes you just have to put your hand up and volunteer to do something - even when you’re scared it won’t be “good enough”. The reality was that everyone was just happy they got to do SOME yoga after getting up early ❤️ That one class gave me the confidence to start teaching other public classes 🧘‍♀️
