Hello friends, some of this meditative mandala art wanted to be shared with you today. (The first is from today, the second is from a couple of days ago.) I’ve been making intuitive mandalas for more than 20 years. As a meditation I will hold a loved one in mind and pray for them as I draw each little shape and line, envisioning them safe, happy, healthy, at ease, feeling loved, celebrating life. It feels good to breathe and imagine that their soul essence speaks to me and tells me which color, which shape, which line, and where, so that the result is a visual prayer, a meditation piece for them to see their own essence depicted externally, where they can breathe and receive their own beauty reflected back to them. It’s meant to be a reminder of the soul’s beauty and mystery, how it speaks to us always, but we hear only when we are ready. These mandalas are meant to be a gentle reminder that we are all in process, expanding from a beautiful clear center, expanding infinitely. And at any point, we can choose to be ready to hear our soul. And it can be beautiful, and gentle. May we have the strength to listen and remember our soul’s beauty today. We are all beautiful at the very center. We are all beautiful at the very center. If you have a loved one who could benefit from a visual reminder of their soul’s beauty, please reach out. Often, we overdo this craving and turn our lives into stagnation, a swamp. True stability is about being set on tracks for confident, forward movement in the right direction, with the potential to switch to more modernized tracks if circumstances favor such a transition. Those who oppose stability swing to the other extreme, flitting from one thing to another, ultimately reducing productivity, creative inspiration, and other constructive impulses. People become overly engaged in playing with chaos, leaving no time to stop and think about greater things. Dr Mongane Wally Serote, South Africa’s Poet Laureate, celebrates his 80th birthday on 8 May 2024. Dr Serote has published a number of short stories and plays. His short stories have been published in journals such as ‘The Classic’, ‘Bolt’, ‘Medu Arts Ensemble’ and ‘Arekopaneng’ among others. ‘The Classic’, first issued in 1963, was one of the earliest journals in South Africa to feature black writers. It was named after a laundromat where the founding writers often met. With Barney Simon, poet Oswald Mtshali and journalist Stan Motjuwadi, Serote co-wrote the script for a musical play called ‘Phiri’. ‘Phiri’ is an adaptation of a dramatic comedy play by Ben Johnson, set in Soweto. It was first performed by the Phoenix Players in Johannesburg in 1973. Serote also wrote a play titled ‘The Way we Heal’, an exploration of the life, philosophies and spiritualism of traditional healers. The play was first performed at the Windybrow theatre in 2013.
