My drawing of the “Origin of the Pileated Woodpecker.” It’s a Cherokee story about a woman that had a garden that she spent all her time in, cutting and planting and keeping it so perfect that she would get upset whenever children would come into it. There was an old watering hole near where she lived. Children loved to swim there. The only problem was that the only path to water went through her garden. Whenever she’d see children going across her garden, she’d run outside and start waving her hands furiously at the them, in an effort to chase them away.
