Too late, too ugly, too cheap….. #watchesandkicksweek I knew I had one more pair of shoes, that possibly could be called sneakers. These are made for rougher environment and not so noble as the ones I’ve seen behind this #. And the watch has been on my wrist for a week now, and it’s costed me less than 5 quid, included the transportation! I doubted it would last a week…. But it is better/not as bad as one could guess considering material, price and so on. It’s functional crap! The shoes are an entirely other thing! They look almost new but have many miles on paths, off grid and so on, but since we got a labrador you need more serious protection from water, mud and all sorts of dirt: that’s just how they are them labs! Here in Sweden 🇸🇪 we’ve got a heat wave so then I tried to find something others than wellies or Blunnies to wear, so that’s why this contribution is so late…. Just found them…. This is my Mido. It's odd, different, not easy to shoot, but I dig it. I intended to have a shot showing the difference in my 3 year old and brand new work boots for #watchesandkicksweek, but obviously that didn't work out. I've been so limited on extra time I couldn't even mess with the setup to get a good shot of my boots with the watch in it. Here's a Sunday slipper shot as I reminisce back on #watchesandkicksweek hosted with my buddy Corey AKA @enthuseddad. First of all, a massive thanks to the watchfam, you all truly embraced the theme, had a lot of fun with it, and many of you commented about pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone, and all of the enthusiasm was great to hear. I've never hosted a theme week before so I didn't know what I was in for. The humble Desert Boot, worn throughout the North Africa campaigns in WW2, is a British icon, but its origins come from much further afield. Veldskoene is an Africaans word meaning 'skin' 'field', 'shoes'. They were imported by South Africans in Cairo who commissioned local cobblers to manufacture them. These were lightweight suede ankle boots with crepe soles, perfect for both desert warfare and 'down' time, and were quickly adopted by the British Army. The Baltany is a homage to another British icon, the 'Dirty Dozen' watch. A tough, legible field watch commissioned in 1944 for the British Forces and manufactured by 12 different suppliers.
