Moonset beyond the high Sierra yesterday 🌙 I've been experiencing a major creative rut with photography. I used to think that there was something wrong with me when I lost interest in things that I'm passionate about, but I've come to terms with the fact that my neurodivergent brain gets bored very easily, especially with tasks, or passions that do not make me feel the fragility of life, extended amounts of movement or throw new data/information. I've learned It's okay not to force myself to do things I don't want to be doing just because my past self was inspired and to lean into whatever my current hyper focus is because that creates the healthiest neurochemical releases. I've been obsessed with aerial and climbing lately, and while both are wildly different, they both offer such a powerful somatic release in addition to figuring out ways to use the body creatively and require a ton of technical skills that keeps my brain running marathons. Like the moon, creativity and passion can come in phases ;) One rut may be the call for enlightenment elsewhere if you aren't attached to a past version of you. While many of our mules are out to play at Mule Days, the rest of our animals still need to be exercised and taken care of. Dually the Quarter horse got a chance to relive his glory days as a Reno champion cow horse, when he spotted some cows on a trail ride. Dually is pushing 30, but no one told him that - and he went into full on cow horse mode when he saw the bovines in the field. Dually was prancing and snorting and jogging all the way back home - arching his neck, and even getting a little excitement buck in! Don’t let old horses fool you, there’s still a lot of life left in them. The lack of reports lately isn't because fishing isn't good, quite the opposite actually. The last 10 days have been solid, with trips producing a dozen to 20+ fish - the majority of which have been big rainbows. Most fish never came out of the water for documentation. It's still biting good back there amongst a few other areas of the lake. Some days you gotta ditch the fleet and find fish elsewhere, which has been paying off. Lake is full, fish are spread out. Surface temp is in the low 60's, hatches are getting bigger, fish are responding. The time is now to plan your shot at these hard fighters! I still have some openings for the rest of May, including this weekend. More summer availability into June/July/August. Hooked up on the upper Owens River on a very windy day. Not everyone is targeting the cutthroats. I taught @9hickoryroad how to indicator nymph while catching eight to 12 inch juvenile rainbows and browns. We used an indicator 1.5 to 2 times the average depth of the water above a size 18 bead head flash back pheasant tail nymph with a size one weight 12 inches above the fly. Wind has been making it tough to cast the fly rod. Paul hooked and properly released several fish.

Had the opportunity to spend some time on the upper Owens River with members of the Southern California Fly Fishers Club, @scflyfishersclub. Taught them how to nymph with an indicator. Needless to say they were stocked to catch trophy cutthroats. The cutthroat run is coming to an end. The fish we are catching are showing the physical signs of the rigors of spawning. I taught them to only fish for cutthroats not actively spawning on redds, spawning beds.
