Day 5 Part 6: Bear prints. 高原湿原での釣りも終え次に向かおうと車に行くとお隣に駐車した車の周りで騒がしく話されています。気になって聞き耳立てるとどうも熊出没🐻の模様！お話を伺うとここに初めて来られたキャンプの方達で昨晩車に食べ物を入れて寝たところクマが来て車をこじ開けようとしたらしくそこかしこに傷と指紋が!後学のため許可を頂いて写真を撮りました。大熊だと簡単にガラス割っちゃうんで子熊でよかった。気を引き締め395号線に戻り更に南下。気温もグングン上がっていきます。 After finishing up my rod at the outlet stream, I approached to my car and saw a bunch of people around a car parked next to mine. As I put my gear inside, I heard them saying bears. I stop what I was doing and spoke to them. They are newbie overnight camper who left foods in their car last night. Bears came sometime earlier and tried to get inside it seemed. Doors were all scratched and prints were everywhere. I asked their permission to take photos. I know a big one can break window pretty easy. Lucky they were small. Oh well. I left the parking, rejoined 395, and kept going due south toward home. As elevation lowers, temp goes up quickly. Conditions Report Upper Bishop Creek Canyon 4-21-23 We’re a little over a week out - Trout fishing officially opens for the resort lakes on April 29th. The conditions are a bit limiting to say the least but here is a rundown of how things look.....and right up front...BE CAREFUL OUT THERE! Roads———- Hwy 168 West - Open as far as Aspendell. Closed from the winter closure gate to Lake Sabrina. Caltrans has some ongoing snow removal activities underway but the stretch of highway beyond the gate and the lake is notoriously susceptible to slides and avalanches so a hard date for reopening the road is not available. Parking is in extremely short supply. Be respectful to residents and DO NOT park in the neighborhood. South Lake Road – Open from the junction at Hwy 168 W to just beyond Bishop Creek Lodge. Inyo County has started snow removal operations on the road however progress has been slow due to snow depth and debris. From the closer the road might appear clear, trust us – it’s not. Parking is exceedingly limited. It is 3 miles to Parchers and 4 miles to South Lake from the closure. North Lake Rd – Closed. No estimated time of reopening. Lake Conditions—— Intake II – Open water. North Lake – No Reports Lake Sabrina – Snowed in. Ice thickness unknown. Ice fishing is the only possibility. Access to the lake, lack of parking and snow/ice depth could prove prohibitive. South Lake – Snowed in. Ice thickness unknown, but I very much doubt anything less than a 5ft auger blade would hit water in most places….I’d guess more like 7ft if I was a betting man. South hasn’t been stocked since 2020 so I’d spend my time elsewhere until it thaws, and we get some fish in there. Opening Dates*———- Parchers Resort Cabins Thursday May 25th Parchers Resort Store/Office Friday May 26th Lake Sabrina Store/Café Friday May 26th (Limited Menu) Lake Sabrina Boat Rentals ASAP (probably early June) South Lake Boat Rentals ASAP (probably mid-June) * All dates are subject to change based on God (the weather) & Government (the road). Lakes as far as the eye can see 😍 The high Sierra sure held some spectacular sights. I'd say it was hard to pick a favorite part, but it was definitely the golden trout 💛 Every lake, creek, and river just held another chance to find them. I look forward to searching for them again one day. It may have been a challenge climbing the passes, but the views you were rewarded with were very much worth the effort. Coming over a ridge and seeing what's to come next was like something out of a book, or a scene from a movie. "Breathtaking" would be putting it lightly.

Busy busy busy for our staff today. Fall color isn’t the only thing going off right now, and we went and put 1200lbs of Idaho Rainbows on top of it! This stocking was unique in that roughly 1600lbs of these trout were paid for by Inyo County in addition to what our neighbors added on for our canyon. With the troubles DFW have had at the local hatcheries and more of the financial burden of fish stocking landing on the shoulders of local businesses, it was fantastic to see Inyo County step up to the plate and give visiting and local anglers some more fall fish to chase. Stocking drops were spread between some of the sand traps down by Lone Pine, Big Pine Creek, Independence Creek and Bishop Creek Canyon. It’s really great to see the county getting on board the fish train with us to support our fall tourism….it’s not just fall colors up here. 🎣🎣🎣🎣 On top of the county fish an additional 900lbs destined for our Bishop Creek Canyon was funded by our neighbors at Creekside RV Park, Cardinal Village Resort, Bishop Creek Lodge and of course us - Parchers Resort and Lake Sabrina Boat Landing. SURPRISE, WE DROPPED IN THE JUMBOS!!!! Last week was a busy week for fish stocking - we had DFW fish show up, then Idaho fish, and then we snuck in a load of jumbo Oregon fish too. We snuck these fish in the lake before daylight, dropped them in an unusual spot, and kept it on the downlow until now to give them plenty of time to acclimate and spread out. Well, TADA! Well, my birthday was yesterday, and 33 was a good year. I caught the biggest bow I have ever had on the Truckee, continued to fish with the best fishing buddies ever, froze at Pyramid, graduated with my PhD, left a job I loved for years, got new jobs, started a business (no, it's not a MLM and I ain't no #businessbabe 🤣), got to see my best friend who I hadn't seen in 8 years, and got married to my forever fishing partner (more pics coming at some point, lol). 🥰 Lots of changes, and probably more to come.
