Luxor Teil 3/3 Das Tal der Könige. Nein, kein Heer der Ringe oder Game of Thrones sondern mitten in der Wüste. Begraben liegt hier unter anderem Tut Ankh Amun, der wohl bekannteste Pharaoh. Leider konnte man dieses Grab nur gegen extra Bezahlung besichtigen, weshalb ich mich für die kostenlosen Gräber nebenan entschied. Uralte Malereien zeugten von Reichtum und antiken Zeichen der Macht und der Güte. Auf Bild 8 ist sogar ein erhaltener Sarg zu sehen. Because his tomb was covered by many debris, it has been impossible to steal the treasure. One word: SETI l This is what I was waiting to see, the burial place of the Pharaoh SETI l who was the father of Ramses ll. Circa 1294-1279B.C. This tomb has been closed and recently reopened and a special $$ ticket, so barely any people inside. Discovered in 1816 by the italian Belzoni, it is considered one of the largest and most decorated tombs in the Valley. 17 rooms decorated from floor to ceiling. It is so beautiful. Murals with SETI before Ra, the god of the sun. Deeply carved support pillars with well preserved decorations… just exquisite quality. Side rooms with their own themes( a guard allowed me into a few- one he called “paradise”- His burial chamber has the incredible barrel vaulted ceiling with depictions of astronomical motifs with stars on a dark blue sky. Deeply carved & colored columns with images of SETI l as various Gods( blue skin) Further toward the back, is a scene decorated with the Opening of the Mouth ceremony, which shows the Egyptian belief that a religious magic ceremony would open the lungs and throat of the mummy allowing them to breathe in the afterlife.( incredible!!!) Other decorations include Book of Ra, the Book of the Dead, Book of Gates, the Imydwat, the Book of the Heavenly Cow and images of SETI with various deities. I mean, wow. One of my favorite reliefs in the descending corridor is of the young SETI with his childhood side lock, called the Horus lock- which means the child is the legitimate heir of the god Osiris. ( this relief is included herein my pictures- you’ll recognize it as the lock is a big braid on side of his head and he is wearing a leopard skin around his shoulders! Valley of Kings: Tombquest Michael Northrop 5/5 Stars Alex and his band of survivors are off to Egypt in the desperate hope of finding his mom, but the hot desert carries more than they expect. Yet another Death Walker, the Order, a violent hunter, betrayal and the journey of learning how to use their amulets. This was a sizzling hot read that left its mark. Yet another in the series that I enjoyed though my reading partner was quite frustrated over the book, but in the best of ways. This is a fun read for all ages though if you've got younger readers (I'm thinking early-mid elementary), be prepared that this is probing more into the darker side, becoming more emotional and escalating the risks. Still a fantastic read, you just might have to do some shoulder pats. Here is what you should know about the place: - the entrance fee cost around 12 € (600 EGP) - for students only around 6 € (300 EGP) - Entrance for Arabic people cost less (60 EGP) - you don’t need a guide to enter - they want you to pay mostly in cash! Bring also cash for the toilet ! - plan minimum 2h to see the place! - bring water and sunscreen with you! - don’t loose your tickets because you need them for each tumb! - be ready for a lot of people wanting to sell you souvenirs, don’t take them into your hand if you don’t wanna buy them! - the tombs close at 5 pm.
