What a thrilling movie! I just finished watching my new favorite movie at the theaters. I went to my friends' home to let them know about the wonderful experience I had. They told me they went to watch the same movie at the same theater, but they didn't see me there. It was only until I realized I didn't go to the same theater as they did. I accidentally went to the abandoned theater which was closed in 2015 due to multiple disappearances within the building. After gathering info from civilians, an estimated amount of 9 people went unknowingly missing at the theater and known of those bodies have been found to this day. Fiscally got around to popping open my @unearthedfilms Blu-ray upgrade of the first August Underground. I’ve had the @toetaginc ones for awhile and I’ve had the unearthed one too just never opened it up until now. These movies have always stuck for the insanity displayed and they really make you feel unsettled and uncomfortable throughout the runtime. True history in underground extreme cinema and it’s great that unearthed released all three of them and expanded the reach and availability of the movies. Happy Monday, book friends! We’re kicking off this week with a review of the book Welcome to Your Body: Lessons in Evisceration. This is a great collection of body horror short stories. All of them hit on a deep seated fear regarding body mutation, sickness, helplessness, superstition, and oppression (specifically women’s lack of bodily autonomy). I also love that some of the stories hit on issues such as expectations versus reality in gender roles, and how extreme and real that horror is. Most of the stories were visually graphic in nature and very haunting. Not only because of the brutal end that the characters faced, but the tension and fear grips the reader in a vice-keeping them riveted and simultaneously horrified. I have to say that my favorite story out of the whole collection was Vincent is a Poseur A**hole, which happened to be the last one, and *chef’s kiss*. So wonderfully appalling and gory. The human body is an amazing thing, and can endure quite a bit. This collection aims to push the boundary beyond the limits, and unsettle us.
