I made this piano years ago. And I broke it multiple times. Especially the legs. I kept repairing it every time by all means possible. Because I remember how long it took for me to make it from scratch. I rarely end up creating something I can be proud of for a long time, and when I do, I give it the best possible care. Every time I ideate for something huge.. an idea of my own that blows my mind away, I keep adding more details to it and it keeps growing in my mind like a huge tree.. until the time of execution. I suddenly find myself frozen. The tree starts resembling like a bunch of leaves and self doubt takes over. Most of these ideas see themselves turning into a beautiful dream, but rarely a reality. I end up calling it procrastination most often, but sometimes I think that’s just an excuse to deny the possibility of incompetence. I used to be a person who would pluck out the already sown seeds if I stop believing they’ll turn into trees. Today I’ve evolved into a person who will still allow the seed to grow however it wants. Small or huge, it has a life of it’s own. Who doesn’t love a forest..? But it takes a lot of seeds, and someone who believes in them. Making miniatures taught me one of the most important lessons of life. Scale doesn’t matter. His project defies conventional cinematic practices, and showcase how he loves his craft and only creates for himself. There are no beauty shots, no seamless edits, only ambient sounds that fill the air, and occasional characters who appear under lights that accentuate their presence in the moment. What Somesh chooses to capture is the mundane, yet through his lens, these ordinary moments undergo a transformation. Each shot is captured in a sequence to match how he visualises scenes in his hypothetical film, presenting everyday life as it might appear on the big screen. Mumbai, a city that pulses with cinematic potential, Somesh Shetty, a cinematographer with a background in game design, crafts his visual narratives with an exceptional ease. His approach is unorthodox, informed by a varied diet of media—music, anime, design, games, and films—that nurtures his creative vision and keeps him connected to his artistic roots. His approach to document these incidents challenge the traditional norms of cinematography, and highlight how everything around us, every kind of content piece we consume and we come across, is super polished and is meant to ‘target’ a certain kind of audience.
