When she was abducted by Hades, who took her to the Underworld to rule with him, her mother, Demeter, helped by Hecate, went looking for her. When Demeter learnt that Persephone was trapped in the Underworld, she became so devastated with grief that all the plants on earth died. Zeus then sent his son Hermes to bring Persephone back to her mother. In today’s #deckstudywithtyana I’m going to be studying the 8 of Vessels from the Terra Volatile. The vessels suite in this deck is the 5th suite which is based on alchemy. I want to mention that by no means am I an expert in alchemy. I am learning basic alchemy from this deck by using the Terra Volatile website. On the Terra Volatile website, this card is described as the stage in alchemy where you think your transformation is complete, but it is not because something went wrong. There is a sense of false superiority you feel because you think you have undergone a spiritual transformation and therefore feel like you are above others because they aren’t at your level. However, if you think this way, are you actually spiritually transformed? Of course not. That is not transformation, that is your ego talking. As for the visuals, the white birds are tied up and they are facing away from each other. They are trapped but they’re also in a disarray, not able to work together to free themselves. This means the transformation didn’t work properly. There are also people at war with each other at the bottom which represents the failed transformation affecting the outer world in a negative way. My experience with this card: This card came out to warn me about acting impulsively because of how that can create a negative ripple effect in my life. Actions have their consequences, so it’s a good idea to think things through and not rush into anything so that you don’t regret it later. I think the part about internal thoughts and battles affecting the outside world does align with how this card showed up for me. I hope you took something away from this. Another day another card of the day! I’m not sure if you noticed, but these are the same decks from yesterday. As I’m beginning to start thinking of what items will be making the journey across the pond with me I realized that I haven’t used my tried and true favorite decks in a while. These are all of the decks (with the exception of Trionfi Della Luna, we are still learning each-other) that are in the gig bag when I go out to do an event. So I’m making the conscious effort to touch base with them a little more. Today’s card is Judgement. Positively judgement is work done well, awakening, renewal, change of personal consciousness. Negatively you may have changed, but cannot move on yet. In my own life I’m stuck between the two. I’m doing a lot of work surrounding moving on, pushing myself to improve. That work has been largely successful. That being said I’m still in my hometown, and still connected to a lot of old ghosts from my past. It’s time to move on, but I need to finish all the logistics around that first. This isn’t to say that the answer to a fresh start is always to pick up and run. Loved this concluding exercise in the “Tarot Backward” chapter of @tsusanchang ‘s “The Living tarot” She has us working retroactively to map out a day that has passed in tarot cards. So I present you the events of yesterday! Circumstances out of my control: (7 of swords) Figuring out student loans that will apply internationally has been confusing as hell. Everytime I think I’m making headway another complication appears. Another day another card of the day! Today we have the 4 of wands. Positively this is celebration, engagements, weddings, parties of all kinds. Negatively this is a hasty engagement, or celebrating prematurely. For me I think this is permission to enjoy myself a little. I have a tendency to continue to push past my breaking point. For a while I prided myself on how much nonsense I could take, the toughest teachers, the most annoying admin shit. Going through negative experiences isn’t an accomplishment. This is not to diminish those who have gone through trauma. That being said there are no prizes for being the most tired, and holding the most on your shoulders. I’m allowed to experience joy, to treat myself with kindness and focus on moving forwards. It’s very easy to stay in cycles of negative experiences the challenge is re-structuring your responses. Another card of the day ! Today is the knight of cups Positively the knight of cups is a romantic, a poet, a fun time. Someone who’s not too serious. Negatively, this can look like gaslighting, mommas boys. Love bombing. Calling out to my fellow humans here. Sound off below if you’re had similar experiences. I’ve been ruminating a lot on my last big relationship and relationship dynamics as a whole. Now that I’m going out again and seeing new faces I find the feeling is more calm and definitely different. I think the difference is that I’m now secure in myself and my situation. Before everything was exciting, but my anxiety was also through the roof. I’m relearning for myself that true care and affection are calm and temperate (for myself at least). Lovebombing isn’t a real expression of affection, it’s a means of controlling a narrative. Typically romance doesn’t spark in a matter of days and lead to something lasting. Here’s to learning ourselves. Here’s to learning what we DO want in our lives. No offense to any mommas out there, but I’m really not interested in taking up the mantle and parenting your sons. I trust that to y’all while they’re children and to them and their therapists when they’re grown. Therapy is too damn expensive for me to do it for free. Healing isn’t linear, we often discover more as we go on. We got this! Now that I’ve gotten a feel for @tsusanchang ‘s card of the day system I feel confident enough to riff on it with some card comparisons. The 4 of pentacles is one of those cards that really varies from deck to deck. Some lean into the security aspects of the 4 of pentacles. 4’s generally being pretty stable. Others really lean into the miserly trope of holding onto one’s funds a little too closely. Fyodor Pavlov tarot and Funny little lizards show that a little with the coins behind the back and the lizard holding onto his berries for dear life. The latter being particularly adorable. I love how deviant moon leans into the shadow with the miser being tormented by time. For me today I believe this is the universe telling me it’s ok to get what I need/want for next year. I’m a stationary fanatic. I like nice things as do we all. That being said I genuinely find certain tools make me more productive in my studies. As I’ve said many times, I have ADHD and I need things a certain way in order to learn. So later this afternoon I’m going to make the jet pens order I’ve been putting off. I know there’s plenty of great stationary in the UK, but I will feel much better if I have my essentials that I know work for me. Another card of the day! I didn’t share yesterday’s since it was about a conversation I had with a student of mine. All is good, but that ish is private! Today we have the 10 of Pentacles Positively this is harvest, enough to go around. Generational wealth. Stability. Negatively this can be being trapped by expectations. I’m not exactly sure how this one manifests in my life right now, so we will have to wait to see what unfolds. From my current understanding this reminds me of how I’ve been ruminating on the concept of family and how much I’m going to miss while I’m away. I was talking to a friend and realized that this will be the first move where my dad won’t be present. He’s very much still with us thank god, just can’t handle a 6-7 hour plane ride with how bad his back has been. He has been there for every accomplishment, helped me move back and forth from Potsdam, took me to all my auditions, and even picked me up from school when I was afraid to take the train home at night (we’re working on that fear still). My mom and my aunt are coming with me and this is not to say that they are not amazing and a huge help, they have been equally involved. I’m just used to having both of them. It’s going to be really weird to say good bye to everyone in September. I’m hoping some people can visit while I’m away. I’m very excited for this next chapter, but now that it’s becoming very real, the emotions are also becoming very real. Another day another card. Days like these make the whole card of the day idea make more sense to me. I’m able to focus in on just one card and develop further insight into what it has to say. Positively : moving on from past experiences Negatively: starting over. Today I had my weekly therapy appointment and we caught up a bit since we took two weeks off due to random life stuff on both our parts. We spent the bulk of our session unpacking a recent experience I had with some juvenile behavior directed towards me from other individuals. The specifics aren’t important because it was exactly that … juvenile. I’m proud of how I’ve grown, stimuli like this would have made me fly off the handle, or shut down in the past. In this instance I just bit my tongue and didn’t create a larger problem. Obviously I’m still ruminating on it a little bit, but I think that’s more due to the hyper fixation on Justice that I’m still working through. The conclusion I’ve come to through therapy is that while it’s not good to get into the habit of thinking yourself better than others, I can confidently say that I’m at least better than these people. I’m continually learning and growing. Embarking on new journeys and making positive changes in my life. These are the things to focus on, not petty Highschool behavior. Perhaps that is todays lesson from the 6 of swords. Another card of the day! Today we have the 8 of wands. Positively things are finally moving!! Negatively things are really moving and this whole leaving this country things is rapidly becoming real! This isn’t a full on hardship, I am extremely excited. There is the matter of what I will miss. My grandmothers aren’t getting any younger, neither is my cat. It’s a very real possibility that I will miss some big things. I will also on the other hand be taking real concrete steps to establish myself. Steps that I feel as though have been delayed by my trauma and the roadblock that the pandemic created for everyone. This intentional severance from my family unit was meant to stick when I went off to undergrad in 2018, but due to circumstances out of my control I had to come home and regroup. Just now in the last year I have gotten back to where I was in terms of my autonomy (though several steps forwards have been taken as well). This is enthusiastically what I am meant to be doing, yet all changes are difficult and complicated. Now I must ready myself for this grand leap into the relative unknown. In this depiction, the saying, “Skeletons in the closet,” comes to mind. Ourselves: body mind and soul being the closet harboring things we should let go or don’t know we should let go. I experience death on a physical plane almost everyday because I have a skin disorder called seborrhea dermatitis whereas my skin is constantly regenerating and not in a beautiful Olay-commercial way. I can’t hide this skin disorder which is primarily seen active on my face. I’m literally shedding skin in real time and that is death the clearing out of the old to make way for the new. Most Emperors in the tarot are portrayed with gray hair -a symbol of wisdom but in history most Emperors died before they could get a strand of gray. The gray armor with the red and the blue and sand colored cape all aesthetically clashes. The desert and silhouette of the city backdrop feels like a cape he got at a souvenir shop. Back to playing with the #pholarchostarot and the #ultimatedeckstudy. Today’s exercise was to go through the deck and find a card that expresses anger and a card that expresses fear. As for anger, I’ve got the Five of Spirals (Pentacles) and the Nine of Wings (Swords). It would make more sense to me if these characters expressed fear - but they appear to be more angry about their experience rather than being anxious. I guess if i were experiencing sleepless nights I might want to let out a primal scream as well. For fear, I had to pick this strange Emperor. To me, his eyes are totally freaked out, like he just saw a ghost. Today’s #ultimatedeckstudy exercise - pull a random mentor card - what does the card teach you about the deck? The Fool. So this card came in a close second to my least favorite card in the deck. I’ve read the guidebook and the ebook and it’s still a mystery. It has something to do with the blue soul, and beginning the journey. So, this card is a good mentor, I guess. Be open minded as I discover this deck, be ready for anything and the all seeing eye will guide me on this journey. Today’s #ultimatedeckstudy exercise is to find my favorite and least favorite card in the deck. I already showed you my favorite, The Tower, and here is my least favorite, Justice. I’ve been a public defender for 25 years, and it’s always important to me that the Justice card speaks to me. It’s not a deal breaker, I can get over it. This card does not speak to me at all. So the mechanical bird represents the man made constructs of the justice system. The woman is the Judge, and the greenery on her chest is the revitalization of her heart as the heart is constantly weighed against a feather, and is constant measure of who she is becoming. There’s a trapeze artist off stage, and she represents all the bird denounces - all the things that happen behind the scenes that uneven the playing field. The trapeze can also be seen as swinging between justice and mercy. That of course is all in the guidebook. When I look at the card, I definitely see theater playing out, but it’s not the theater of justice. Today’s #ultimatedeckstudy exercise was to study the Hanged Man card. In this deck, the card is called The Hanged One, and shows a woman, hanging deep in reverie. Berries sprout from her chest, and butterflies emerge from her head. The LWB references Paulina from a Winter’s Tale, who magically returns Herminone to life at the end of the play. The ebook conjures Maria Prophetissa, an alchemist who lived between the 1st and 3d, and created all kinds of fantastical alchemy cooking instruments, whispering in her ear, stirring all kinds of magical transformations. The woman surrenders to these whispers and dreams of Odin and ancestral memory. She emerges from her suspended crystal cocoon, transformed. The #ultimatedeckstudy exercise also asks us to consider how to read reversals in this deck in the context of this archetypical reversal, the hanged one. I think this deck has enough going on that reversals are already in the cards, but when they come up I’ll probably do what I always do, read them in the context of the question and the surrounding cards and what flows from them. I love noticing patterns like this within a deck, as it adds new layers to my readings and Interpretations 🤗 The cards are 0.The White Hart (aka The Fool) and the Ace of Visions (aka Cups). The white & green colouration in each makes me think of Lightness of Heart - which can come from the freedom & potential of the Fool as well as the loving energy of the Ace 🤍💚 How can you lighten the load on your heart today? Treated myself to Tarot of the Divine last week. As soon as I decided I wanted it I found out it was sold out everywhere in the UK but I was lucky enough to find a second hand copy on Ebay. The book Beneath the Moon, also by Yoshi Yoshitani, came with it, and I really recommend getting the deck with the book as a pair, actually being able to read the stories adds so much more depth. I haven't done any readings with this deck yet, I'm admiring the cards and reading the stories.
