I made my baby lay on the baby size Northwest Star Quilt I made. She thought it was pretty funny since she isn’t much of a baby. This is the first #northweststarsquilt I made. I didn’t even press the seams till the end. 🫣 I really just wanted to make sure the measurements were correct. I used a bundle of fabric I curated from India. 🇮🇳 Baby quilts are a good size to learn how to baste and quilt if you are a beginner quilter. It’s much easier with less fabric and bulk to pull through your machine. Plus it’s easier to keep a design on a smaller space. Throwback quilt - many thanks to my hubby John for his patience while trying to hold up a quilt for photography on a warm but very windy day in the park. It finally did occur to me that he is holding the quilt upside down (with the extra fabric for the pillow tuck at the bottom of the photo) but I didn't have the heart to tell him I think the solid colors in this antique quilt (1920's?) from my personal collection look quite fresh and modern, even after all these years. My star quilt has been organised into rows, ready to stitch on the background pieces. This system works for me. In view of no access to a design wall, the pieces move from a flannelette sheet on the kitchen floor, checked for balance using B&W filter. Computerized quilting This is one I pieced myself, as a donation/fundraiser quilt for my girls’ school. I really enjoyed making the Expanding Stars quilt recently 🌟 I'm a fan of big designs that fill the whole quilt canvas. My daughter shared last month that two good friends she made this year are moving away. It's been a hard lesson learning that friends will come and go in life. Both friends are moving to the coast (though opposite ones) so I offered to make quilts so that they'd have something to keep them connected in a way and she took me up on the offer. So we gifted this quilt last week to the first friend who was moving that day. I used a mix of solid fabrics, Speckled, and a Tula Pink Fairy Dust print for the center star. Shop over 100 beautiful hand-made quilts that you'll find in Annie's Quilts and Crafts in the Point Barn. The first quilt you see is the Fire Island Hosta quilt. It's named after the Fire Island Hosta plant. Can you see the likeness. This quilt, like all the Quilts in Annie's are hand sewn by Amish seamstresses. Next is the Improved Star quilt. The reason it is called Improved is because of the addition of the floral images around the star. Most of the quilts are sized to fit queen and king beds. The only machine used to make these quilts is a sewing machine just to sew together the top of the quilt. The rest is meticulously hand sewn. The material used (not including the quilting) is cotton. Happy Memorial Day, friends!!! Today is such an appropriate day to share this next pattern from my book, RAINBOW QUILT COLOR METHOD. Say hello to TWINKLE pattern!!🤩 Scroll to the 3rd picture to see my Americana patriotic stars option for this pattern if rainbow isn’t your vibe. Every pattern in this book shows you an alternate option that isn’t necessarily rainbow — from patriotic to floral to monotone to holiday-specific. There’s no limit with these patterns! Yay! — Twinkle is an EPP pattern from head to toe, and I’m still stitching away on my next version. I know for some of y’all, EPP is a dirty word and a method you never want to attempt. Trust me…I get it. Had it not been for a couple patterns in this book (Twinkle & Star Blossom), I too would never have taken on the challenge. Here’s the great news though…in addition to all sorts of great EPP method and stitching tips, I also explain how to utilize both EPP patterns and never do an ounce of EPP. You’re welcome!😋 And just so I’m 100% transparent, the photographed quilt you see miiiiiiiiiight not be EPP 😏🥸😜 There might have been a bit of a setback during the making process with a deadline that wasn’t budging. So MamaDitty (God bless her!!) and I whipped this FauxPP together, quilted and bound in under a week. The good news is: the pattern works whether you go the slow-stitching EPP route or the quick & get’r’dun route. Ein Baby-Quilt mit Sternenmuster ist heute fertig geworden 💪! Ich wusste zuerst nicht, wie ich ihn quilten könnte und hab mich dann für eine all-over Spirale entschieden. Das hatte ich vorher noch nie gemacht, aber nach ein bisschen üben ging es ganz gut. Ich hab sie bewusst nicht aufgezeichnet, weil ich finde, dass kleine Unregelmäßigkeiten die Symbolkraft der Spirale, die ja ein Sinnbild für das Leben ist, noch unterstreichen. Zum Glück gefällt der Quilt meiner Kollegin sehr gut, die ihn als Geschenk für ihre Nichte zur Geburt des ersten Kindes bei mir bestellt hat. 😊🍼👶.
