Now here’s a Studios throwback that’s fairly recent. This was back in January 2020. I was about to start my first college program that spring (rip). I told Mickey that I was excited to finally work for him. He was so happy for me that he wrote a special note saying, “Thanks for being part of the magic! One thing I miss about Disney’s Hollywood Studios is the giant Sorcerer Hat that stood in front of the Chinese Theatre. I know some people were annoyed by it, but it was important to me because it represented my Disney childhood going on these trips. The funny part is that on my first visit when I was a little kid I thought that was where Fantasmic would be shown at night given the theme. Happy 35th to Hollywood Studios!! I still end up saying MGM when I talk about this park. I haven't been around for all 35 years, but pretty close. I still remember The Great Movie Ride, Studio Backlot Tour, Honey I Shrunk the Kids movie set adventure, ABC Sound Studio: Sounds Dangerous, The Magic of Disney Animation, Bear in the Big Blue House: Live on Stage, The Hunchback of Notre Dame: A Musical Adventure and The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights. I could go on, but yeah. I remember when I was watching Bear in the Big Blue House: Live on Stage and they asked for volunteers and no one raised their hand. I felt bad, so I raised my hand (which was big for me because I was shy) and I remember after I did that they had more volunteers and I had the best time dancing with Bear on stage. MGM used to be my favorite park growing up. My favorite Disney ride was The Great Movie Ride!! Loved the ending movie montage. No matter how many times I watch that montage I would still get goosebumps right when the Gone with the Wind music went on. I am a movie buff because of it. Fantasmic is still my favorite Disney show. Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular is a close 2nd. The Hunchback of Notre Dame: A Musical Adventure blew me away as a child. I never wanted to miss it every time we visited the park. One other attraction I truly miss is The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights. Twas glorious. I still do enjoy the park now, but I miss what it was. A digital tracing of a Mickey template. When I say digital tracing I mean I get a picture and go over it with my own lines and add a few things to it like shading and guidelines to give it my own artistic flare. But it is indeed traced. I find that it’s good for practicing strokes and lines. However my freehand work is done without tracing but using a reference. Just wanted to clarify that.
