Last September, on my last day in London, I went on a long walk along the River Thames, in order to take some photos of Terry Farrell's MI6 Building at Vauxhall Bridge. Turned into slides, in November these photos were part of the lecture about Headquarters that I gave at the opening reception of @jointintelligence's exhibition "Fruit Anxiety, Desire and Method” at @sb34_thepool_clovis in Brussels. The new SIS Building was designed by Terry Farrell and completed in April 1994. James Bond is an intelligence officer in the Secret Intelligence Service, the SIS. The SIS is also known as MI6, which means Military Intelligence, Section 6. The building is located in the south western part of central London, on the bank of the River Thames, right next to the Vauxhall Bridge. As you can see, it does not look very secret, just like the old SIS Building. It even appers in several Bond Films - in Golden Eye, The World is not enough, Die another Day, Skyfall and Spectre. Farrell's Postmodern design for the SIS building was influenced by 1930s industrial modernist architecture such as the Battersea Power Station but also by Aztec temples. Due to the secret nature of the SIS work, large parts of the building are below street level, with numerous underground corridors serving the building. There is a sports hall, a gymnasium, an aerobics studio, a squash court and a restaurant. Build and inaugurated in 1994. 英国秘密情報本部？のビル。James Bondの職場てことか。 バタシー発電所（最後の写真）と雰囲気似てませんか？と思ったら、Battersea Power StationやBankside Power Station（今のテートモダン）、マヤ、アステカ文明の寺院からインスパイアされたポストモダン建築だそうです。良く分からないけど歴史的建築の要素をデフォルメしてた取り入れた現代建築ということでしょうか。 右手に架かるのがVauxhall Bridge。この写真は対岸の公園から撮りましたが、このあたりには昔刑務所（Millbank Prison）があり、ここから多くの受刑者がオーストラリアに流刑されていったそうです。当時の船着場にあった係留柱がひっそり残ってた。 その刑務所の跡地にできたのがテートブリテンらしい。 #sisbuilding #vauxallbridge #ロンドン散歩 #007

I always get the Bond Theme stuck in my head whenever I see this beautiful building. This is the SIS Building, the London HQ of the Secret Intelligence Service, or MI-6 (Military Intelligence, Sector 6). This is where James Bond gets his briefings from M, from "Goldeneye" onwards. You'll remember it from the amazing opening sequence in "The World is Not Enough" where Pierce Brosnan's Bond blasts out in possibly the best boat-chase ever filmed! You'll also remember the explosion in M's office in "Skyfall". This post modern building was designed by Terry Farrell and was one of the most influential modern buildings in London.
