Hello, friends. I am the Dragons College Study Abroad Coordinator, and I am writing to share my Solstice tradition. Each year my family/community wakes at 6am to gather for a ceremony celebrating that light is returning. We light candles, honor the wisdom the 4 directions have brought this year, and reflect together as it slowly becomes light enough to see each other’s faces in the crisp air. And finally, we sing up the sun (even tho we usually can’t actually see the actual sunrise). My family used to live in the woods, so we were further from civilization. Now my mom lives closer to town and we adapt to our surroundings. Here is our group this morning, up on the bike path for the end, to sing up the sun. After driving overnight from DC up to MA, I felt rejuvenated by our voices, and so grateful for my community.
