This ornamental table in the ballroom is yet to have a leg to stand on while Michaela is going to need hers if a stalker gets to Einsam before her. The stare coming from that face worries both visitors. Michaela’s detour through this section of the mansion brings me back to when I included her in my “A Series of Unfortunate Events” fanfic illustration that recreates The Marvelous Marriage. She was stood up at the theater where the play was performed, but ended up staying in the hope that Count Olaf’s cringe acting would take her mind off her heartbreak. The illustration is obviously not canon, but before the events of Son of a Hustler, she was forsaken by her love interests twice. One never showed up to a theater where they’d promise to meet and the second drove her to fake her death and leave her life far behind. Her path would lead her to the mansion and eventually to Einsam. A princess in the Conifers Kingdom is keeping a couple of changelings living in the woods near its capital company. Princess Kolaka is fond of the wilderness around her and wishes to devote her life to preserve it, but the kingdom is at war with Vlad the Impaler and his illustrious coven. It is a home to many earth magic practitioners and can hold their own against the dark arts, but the queen, Kolaka’s older sister, is in constant danger. Should anything happen to her, the princess will be forced to forsake her dreams to keep the Conifers Kingdom and London out of the Dark Lord’s hands. It is a day she dreads, but she masks it with a smile. Why suffer twice when the changelings are blessed to have her in their company? To them, her happiness is all that matters and if they’re living in the moment, so should she. Meanwhile, @rachel0ates reads a poetry book to @kyrathestaffy and some kids. During their session, she uses it to teach them how to interpret and break down details few are able to find in a poem to encourage critical thinking. They will need that skill to recognize ignorance.
