@efmusicsweden (German below) EF have been around for over 20 years. In this long time, the Swedes have constantly evolved and formed a truly characteristic sound that definitely places the band at the vanguard of the post-rock genre. The songs consist of many fine layers that form a foundation just strong enough to prevent the explosive moments from tearing everything down. EF are not a destructive band, because singer Tomas Torsson’s voice often sounds conciliatory, almost deeply familiar. Like that of an old friend who is there when things aren’t going so well. The wish to have EF playing at Deaf Row Fest has existed for as long as the festival itself. Finally it worked out! EF gibt es bereits seit über 20 Jahren. In dieser langen Zeit haben die Schweden sich stets weiterentwickelt und einen wirklich charakteristischen Sounds geformt, der die Band definitiv zur Vorhut des Post Rock Genres zählen lässt. Die Songs bestehen aus vielen feinen Schichten, die ein gerade so starkes Fundament bilden, dass die explosiven Momente nicht alles niederreißen. EF sind nämlich keine zerstörerische Band, denn die Stimme von Sänger Tomas Torsson klingt oft versöhnlich, ja beinahe schon zutiefst vertraut. 23 years ago I bought myself a ticket to Hanoi and back from Saigon 6 weeks later. I was obsessed with the idea of exploring Vietnam, it seemed like one of the last frontiers of the world I knew. I was not in the best mental place when I left the Berlin I had just moved to, and came back revived and as another person in many ways, empowered by life and driven by experiences and crazy stories from the trip. I was travelling on the back of motorbikes and on an open bus ticket, cost of 25$ for the 2.000km trek all the way from Hanoi to Saigon… hopping off wherever I felt like there was something to discover, and back on when my mission was done. The song title „The Long Road to Nha Trang“ on our debut album „Fogdiver“, which we released 2 years later, makes reference to one particular chapter of that journey. There were no venues in Saigon at that time, or anywhere in Vietnam. None of the tall buildings that now line the shore of the Mekong river were there, and there wasn’t Uber, but cyclos that would often get stuck in the middle of a crossing during heavy monsoon rain. If somebody had told my green, 20 year old self back then that I would come back some 23 years later to play a show in the city that was the final stop of my trip, with that band I had just started and had recorded some crappy sounding 4-track demos for… I would have laughed out loud. Life is a dazzling adventure, and full of surprises. Le duo utilise les solstices saisonniers de l’année comme points de repère pour dévoiler une collection de chansons et de cinématiques, avant la sortie d'un coffret vinyle regroupant les quatre 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘴, en novembre chez Pelagic Records.
