Narrogin mob, it was so great to connect-up for a community event to mark National Reconciliation Week on Monday 27th May. Moorditj! The day celebrated our shared history, and there were inspiring speeches by Elders, cultural ceremonies, a beautiful choral performance by koorlangkas (children) and of course stalls like ours to browse. Our local staff and Tackling Indigenous Smoking team were proud to be a part of the day. National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia 🤝 This week in Occasional Care, children explored Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, focusing on the Kaurna people of the Adelaide Plains. They discussed the Aboriginal flag and its colours in the Kaurna language, participated in storytelling, and created an Acknowledgement to Country 🚩 The 2024 theme, ‘Now More Than Ever,’ encourages ongoing efforts for justice and rights for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples #NRW2024

💬 “We are proud of the progress we have made as an organisation but also acknowledge the continuous improvements we can work towards in the future.” Our RAP Working Group has spent the past six months reflecting on our Reconciliation journey - our challenges and achievements - when developing our soon-to-be launched 2024-26 Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan. This new RAP builds on our 2022-24 Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan and prioritises innovative, proactive approaches to integrate Reconciliation into our culture, partnerships, and community engagement. 💪 In partnership with Reconciliation Australia, the plan outlines concrete actions to strengthen our relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and organisations. 🫶 We're committed to amplifying First Nations voices, embedding their perspectives in our work, and fostering self-determination and governance. #NRW2024 #InnovateRAP #ReconciliationWeek #Reconciliation #ReconciliationActionPlan #NAIDOC #FirstNations #Intereach #NowMoreThanEver #AllisonStewartArt

On the first day of winter we went for a walk on country to mark National Reconciliation Week. Connecting with the landscape is a profound form of reconciliation, allowing us to honour the history and culture of Ngunnawal and Ngambri country and First Nations peoples. We hugged and acknowledged a prominent scar tree, taking in its history, its story and connection to the land. Spoke of our respect and appreciation for the deep significance it holds. I’m glad we took this time to connect. Now more than ever, it’s time to listen, learn, and connect with country and each other. #NRW2024

Honouring Traditional Owners and their stewardship of the Great Barrier Reef Since time immemorial, Traditional Owners have deeply intertwined their culture and spirituality with the Great Barrier Reef. Today, the Marine Park Authority and Traditional Owners are blending modern management with ancient knowledge to protect this iconic World Heritage Area. A significant partnership over the past decade has been the Indigenous Land and Sea Country Partnerships Program, a $20 million investment in Traditional Owner management of the Reef. This program has developed Traditional Use of Marine Resources Agreements (TUMRAs), community-based plans for sustainable resource management. TUMRAs outline how Traditional Owner groups work with the Australian and Queensland governments to manage traditional activities on their Sea Country. Each agreement is overseen by a committee that ensures sustainable management based on cultural lore and contemporary science. In the past 10 years, the area of Sea Country covered by TUMRAs has doubled, with the number of agreements growing from four to ten, plus an Indigenous Land Use Agreement, now covering 18 Traditional Owner groups. Today, over 43% of the Marine Park coastline is managed under these agreements, reflecting unprecedented collaboration and trust. Together, we ensure the legacy of Traditional Owners continues to thrive, nurturing the Reef for generations to come. Now More Than Ever #NRW2024

Australia isn’t racist😂 For those of you who do not see the racism, it’s because you’ve never lived it! This article demonstrates the layers of racism embedded in this country to have such a reaction. Thank you to Laura Tingle the chief political correspondent of the ABC for standing strong and bringing this to the forefront, we appreciate you & support you. The backlash that you have received showcases the vile racism that exists in our country! You do realise that the WHITE AUSTRALIAN POLICY was in effect from 1901- to 1973, it was Illegal to date or marry anyone of colour AND no-one of colour was allowed into Australia- that ceased only 51 yrs ago!! I can provide you with a phenomenal amount of evidence to showcase the white supremacy this country was built on but yet people believe their own anecdotal evidence Bec they have been whitewashed! Btw Whitewashed means (to alter (something) in a way that favors, features, or caters to white people) https://humanrights.gov.au/about/news/opinions/race-discrimination-commissioner-why-abc-chiefs-should-back-laura-tingle #racism #nrw2024 #reconciliation

This week is National Reconciliation Week – a week in which everyone can learn, reflect and contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. The theme this year is NOW MORE THAN EVER, which reminds us that the fight for justice and rights for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people continues and that it remains vital to grapple with the unfinished business of reconciliation and truth-telling. This Sunday 2 June, ‘Reconciliation in the Park’ returns to celebrate First Nations arts, music and culture in Geelong. And at Grant Pavilion, Torquay, you can experience ‘Journey on Wadawurrung Country’, an immersive exhibition presented by the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Corporation – now showing until Sunday 16 June. This week the Junior School acknowledged National Reconciliation Week. Led by the Year 6 Creativity Team, the students learned about the history of Reconciliation Week and were encouraged to think about how we can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. The girls created a Sea of Hands art installation, symbolising solidarity with First Nations Peoples. Author and musician, Mr @greggdreise shared his Kamilaroi and Euahlayi heritage with the girls through storytelling, music and dance. In the lead up to Reconciliation Week, the girls were delighted to learn about the use of symbols for storytelling in Aboriginal art from Aunty April Campbell and Aunty Cindy Presley, Elders from Ti Tree. Meriden has a long association and partnership with Ti Tree School and neighbouring community, Neutral Junction in the Northern Territory. #NRW2024

~ Kununurra Backstories 2022 ~ In celebration of National Reconciliation Week, we are sharing heartfelt stories from our Kununurra backyard during the Backstories Festival 2022. These stories, shared by both Indigenous and non-Indigenous storytellers, focus on women connecting over motherhood, trauma, and feminine strength. Among the storytellers, Sarah Duguid courageously shares her journey of acknowledging and being accountable for her own racism, highlighting the importance of self-reflection and accountability in the reconciliation process. This collection features stories from Sarah Duguid, Elly Ottehof, Rowena Alexander, Lee Scott-Virtue and Alice (Anonymous). This event was a collaboration with Kimberley Birds, an Indigenous consultancy agency based in Kununurra. Their mission is to amplify the voices of Kimberley Indigenous women, promote Indigenous culture, and support First Nations women in business. Reconciliation is about relationships, understanding, and shared accountability. This collection is about building relationships and engaging in a two-way conversation. It's about settlers, both descendents of original settlers and more recent migrants, taking accountability and supporting Aboriginal sovereignty. This Reconciliation Week, let’s listen, reflect, and act towards a future where Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities can connect, heal, and grow together. #nationalReconciliationWeek commitment installation at MIC, which grew out of kindness, listening, learning and showing up in solidarity - which are our commitments. Here's the story. We learned last week from Lyndon Davis that the name of the yellow tailed black cockatoo is Weeyeow - which is the sound it makes. Also that it's associated with rain. One cockatoo, one day of rain. More cockatoos, more rain. He shared this with us because a Weeyeow flew over during the Gubbi Gubbi dance performance. So this week I was planning an outdoor voices for reconciliation choir performance, with a collective ephemeral art creation. The day before, it was sunny and clear. I was out in the forest looking for materials. After a while, I realised I could hear a Weeyeow calling. I had not been thinking about a wet weather alternative until then. Checked the forecast and it predicted a rainy performance day. So I mentally sketched and arranged for a fallback undercover choir and art gathering. Including the possibility of creating a wall art installation. On the day, the weather started out wet and grey, so we were really thinking and acting like we would be undercover. Which meant getting the wall art installation set up and started. Then the clouds went away and cleared up for a sunny afternoon. The choir performance was grassroots and organic, so we were able to make a late decision regarding location. Ultimately, the outdoor sing of Blackfella/Whitefella went ahead as planned, with the creation of an entirely organic "new leaf" ephemeral art piece in the sandpit. The experience was beautiful, joyful, uplifting. The essence of Reconciliation. As a bonus, because we had listened and learned and been committed to showing up we also created a more specific and visible installation inside the building. To me, this whole evolving process and positive outcomes demonstrates the expansive possibilities and benefits that flow from including Indigenous and marginalised knowledge into planning and communities. #nrw2024 #NowMoreThanEver #alwaysWasAlwaysWillBe #growthMindset

🌟✨🎨 This week at Integricare Auburn, our little learners have been embracing the spirit of Reconciliation Week! 🎉📚 We've been on an exciting journey delving into the rich history of our country and learning more about our First Nations People. We dove into the pages of the book "Finding Our Heart" by Thomas Mayor, exploring pivotal moments where laws were changed to ensure equality for all. 💖📖 Our creative ideas came to life as we crafted beautiful hearts adorned with the colours of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags! 🎨🖌️ Working together, we proudly created our own rendition of the Aboriginal flag using red, black, and yellow paper. 🖼️ But the fun didn't stop there! 🎶💃 We grooved and sang along to vibrant Aboriginal songs, immersing ourselves in the melodies that teach us about the rich cultural heritage and traditions of our First Nations People. 🎶🌟 #Reconciliation #NRW2024 #NowMoreThanEver #Auburn #Northbridge #Northmead #Pendlehill #Parramatta #Chrstianlearningsydney #Northstrathfield #Integricare #Brightonlesands #Rockdale #Rockdaleplaza #StIves #Strathfield #Turrella #ParentTips #Parenting #EarlyLearning #Rozelle #Balmain #Integricare

Continuing our National Reconciliation Week events: we invite you to a special, FREE screening of the film 'You can Go Now' at the Louis Joel Gallery Today at 5pm. First Nations artist Richard Bell proclaims himself to be an ‘activist masquerading as an artist.’ His confrontational work and attitudes have stirred the Australian art world while being lauded internationally, taking him from a childhood in a rural Queensland shack to the lofty halls of the Tate Modern. Schooled in the rough and tumble politics of Redfern and the Canberra Tent Embassy, his work challenges the institutions of colonisation in Australia and asserts the rights of First Nations people around the world. At a time when Australia is contemplating voice, truth and treaty, Bell’s ideas cannot be ignored. We hope you will join us this to see this powerful film. #NRW2024 @reconciliationaus @nitv_au @sbs_australia

With a Voices For Reconciliation staff singalong and a guided tour of the @artgalleryofnsw Yiribana Gallery, we deepened our understanding of the week’s purpose and theme and feel energised and inspired to continue our reconciliation journey. #NRW2024 #NowMoreThanEver #VoicesForReconciliation Credit: 1. luwanti Ken, Australia b1944 Pitjantjatjara, Southern Desert region Walawuru ngunytju kukaku ananyi (Mother eagles going hunting) 2022 2. This Pirrku Mularta (message stick) was used at the yarning circle launch event for the State Government’s Anti-Racism Strategy and Action Plan in October 2023. It is the first such strategy and plan ever implemented by the State Government of South Australia. It was made by Kaurna artist and historian James Tylor using Karra (River Redgum), Ngaru (white acrylic paint) and Marni (animal fat) for the finish. #NRW2024 📷 Pirrku mularta, 2023, @history_sa, HT 2023.1158 Photograph by Stephen Dean

"One of the best things we can do is listen. We first need to listen to what Traditional Owners want to do, which is all the better for understanding Indigenous culture and how we can play a role in their aspirations." This #NationalReconciliationWeek we caught up with team member Ben Cullen, who has played a key role in developing partnerships with First Peoples that meet conservation goals and the aspirations of Traditional Owners. Read our Q&A with Ben at the link in our bio. #NRW2024 📷 : Cultural burning by Wurunjderi @narrap_rangers is improving the health of Willis Nature Park.

NATIONAL RECONCILIATION WEEK | 27 May - 3 June is National Reconciliation Week, with a theme in 2024 of 'Now More Than Ever'. "National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia."* Redeemer acknowledged Reconciliation Week in various ways. Our Visual Art staff facilitated a space for students to engage with Reconciliation Week through an art installation. Authentic Indigenous artworks from the College Art Collection were displayed in the Innovation Hub, and students were invited to add their own 'Now More Than Ever' poster to the wall and prompt reflective conversations. Year 12 students also visited the Junior School Resource Centre to reflect on Reconciliation Week with Junior School students, and guide their understanding and learning through creation of simple dot paintings. This Saturday for Reconciliation week we bring you work from the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands. Tuppy Goodwin is a senior Pitjantjatjara artist and chairperson of Mimili Maku Arts where she is a leader and mentor. Robert Fielding is another leading Mimili artist. In November this year we present a comprehensive solo exhibition of his work in partnership with @mimilimakuarts. Fielding is an artist, a storyteller and a keeper of tjukurpa (ceremony and culture). Descendant of the first Afghan cameleers, and the Yankunytjatjara and Western Arrenda people of the central desert, Fielding also lives and works in Mimili Community. A hearty congratulations to Robert Fielding who is a finalist in this year’s Archibald Prize for his portrait of Tuppy Goodwin where he says, ‘Ngintja is my nanna, a cultural leader, a boss, an artist and a storyteller. She has been a teacher to our kids, a teacher to me. She is a person of beauty, power and significance, passing on tjukurpa (story) and inma (songs).’ 1 📷 This is an early work by Tuppy (2011) and here she paints Antara, a sacred place for Anangu, and the Maku Tjukurpa (witchetty grub story). "There is a special rock hole at Antara where women perform inma – ‘inmaku pakani’ – and afterwards there is enough maku to feed everyone. Antara and Maku Tjukurpa is really important for Mimili women, we paint this place and its stories, keeping them strong." 2. 📷 In 2022, Fielding drew on the ideas and storytelling in his diverse backstory of work and produced a unique state print portfolio. This portfolio will be the foundation of the work presented at MRAG in November bringing together threads of his past and present to create a new conversation between times, places and cultures. We can't wait to share this exhibition with you later in the year! 📷 Meg Hansen #nrw2024 @robertfielding_ @mimili_maku_arts

As part of our Reconciliation Action Plan, Junior School students engage with Dr Yunkaporta’s 8 Ways Aboriginal Pedagogy to foster meaningful cross-cultural dialogue and shared learning experiences. During National Reconciliation Week, our classes have showcased this learning technique by uploading their 8 Ways contributions to a live feed shared across the Junior School. A sample of these contributions can be viewed above. As an educational institution, we are in a privileged position to guide our young people towards a reconciled Australia. Cultural awareness and learning activities are an ongoing priority, not just dedicated to a week on our calendar, as we take meaningful action to advance reconciliation. #NRW2024 #NowMoreThanEver #SPSC #StPetersCollege

“We will never recover from this result but we will move together as we now have six million new friends — the six million who voted yes.” Professor Megan Davis. Last night was the first time many of us came together in open and collaborative discussion about the outcome of the 2023 referendum. Professor Megan Davis and Aunty Pat Anderson AO led these discussions and shared their own thoughts, reflections and feelings on the referendum. The referendum was incredibly hard on mob and there is much to learn from and much to appreciate. It affected us all in different ways and we have a long journey ahead to heal and recover. Last night was exactly about this, creating a space for those to come back together to yarn, recover and re-energise. This movement must go on. It was a powerful moment seeing the The Uluru Statement last night, the first time it has been publicly displayed since the referendum. Being reminded of its words, the process behind its creation, its travels and the purest form of an olive branch and gift to the Australian people to walk with us for a better future. “We aren’t done yet, this is our place, like it or not we are here and we aren’t going anywhere. It’s time for a new narrative and we need to start this process all over again. But this time we need to go wider, share our knowledge with more and apply our learnings from the past”. Aunty Pat Anderson AO.
