Not only did they acquire the first winery license in Canada since prohibition in 1975, they put Canada on the world stage when their Icewine won the prestigious Grand Prix d’Honneur in Bordeaux, France 🇫🇷 in 1991 for their Vidal Icewine. June is a month for Rosé! With two days of celebration to commemorate this popular pink wine we thought we would give you a few fun facts that you may not know: 🌹 Rosé is not a type of grape, but rather a style of wine. Typically made from red varietals but fermented like a white wine. For example, our Dean’s List Rosé is 100% Cabernet Franc, while our Rosé 101 is a blend of Pinot Noir & Cabernet Franc. 🌹 The pretty pink colour you is a result of skin contact during the fermentation process. The darker the hue means is was in contact with its skin for a longer period of time. This is evident with our Dean’s List Rose which was direct to press (almost zero contact), compared to 101 which spent 12 hours on its skins. 🌹 Rosé doesn’t only have to be sipped in the Summer. It is arguably the most versatile style of wine when it comes to food pairings! My first visit to Niagara Teaching Winery really took me by surprise ! We were greeted by friendly, knowledgeable staff who were eager to help Sara find a red wine she loved and a craft beer I’d be happy to take home with me.
