I started a blog post about the album for its anniversary last November but never finished it. This documentary just reignited that match. The album has been a favorite of mine literally since 1994. Even then, as a kid who wasn't even 10 years old yet, I felt a strong connection to it. At one point, I remember "borrowing" it from my brother and never returning it. He used to tease me about that often. It's one of my TOP favorite albums of all time, and is why I'm a Mary fan. That connection I felt to it back then has only strengthened in the 27 years since. The album has spoken to me at various times throughout my life as I've gotten older, whether it was during the uncertainty of teenage adolescence, low self-esteem, the loss of close family and the sadness that comes with that, romantic heartbreak, etc. Mary's rawness and vulnerability were and are extremely endearing and relatable. "My Life" by Mary J. Blige I watched Mary J. Blige's "My Life" documentary on @amazonprimevideo earlier this evening. I cried off and on throughout the entire thing. I started a blog post about the album for its anniversary last November but never finished it. This documentary just reignited that match. The album has been a favorite of mine literally since 1994. Even then, as a kid who wasn't even 10 years old yet, I felt a strong connection to it. At one point, I remember "borrowing" it from my brother and never returning it. He used to tease me about that often. It's one of my TOP favorite albums of all time, and is why I'm a Mary fan. That connection I felt to it back then has only strengthened in the 27 years since. The album has spoken to me at various times throughout my life as I've gotten older, whether it was during the uncertainty of teenage adolescence, low self-esteem, the loss of close family and the sadness that comes with that, romantic heartbreak, etc. Mary's rawness and vulnerability were and are extremely endearing and relatable.
