Mono Camera: "ASI1600GT" inbuilt EFW; First light🥰🥰🥰 Its time to go one step further in the astrophotography journey and start a new learning lesson with monochrome imaging. So far i was using a modified DSLR which gave me best learning over the years. Using a cooled mono camera is totally a different world. I was blown away by the sensitivity of the sensor. I recieved it yesterday and got 3hours of clear sky so i tried to use the camera and succeeded. This is only 66 min of HA data i could managed as first light. I mounted my ASI1600GT on my trusted Fornax LightTrackII and it gave me pin point stars at 720mm effective focal length (2.1"/pixel) without any autoguiding. Right now i only have LRGBHa filters but i am mainly interested in SHO narrowband imaging. So i am gonna buy filters ASAP. Till then! NGC7380 the Wizard Nebula. Reprocessing some older data I captured a few months ago. It will be raining here in SoCal for the next few days so time to process data I captured previously. Not the best data I’ve captured but workable. Very minimally processed. Tried out the BlurExterminator plug-in for PixInsight. So far I kinda like what it does. This image is a heavily cropped image from my RedCat51 so resolution isn’t great. NGC 7380 is a young open cluster of stars in the northern circumpolar constellation of Cepheus, discovered by Caroline Herschel in 1787. The surrounding emission nebulosity is known colloquially as the Wizard Nebula, which spans an angle of 25′. German-born astronomer William Herschel included his sister's discovery in his catalog, and labelled it H VIII.77. The cluster spans ~20 light-years (6 pc) with an elongated shape and an extended tail. At the center of the cluster lies DH Cephei, a close, double-lined spectroscopic binary system consisting of two massive O-type stars. This pair are the primary ionizing source for the surrounding region. NGC2244 the Rosette Nebula. My first attempt at a Rosette SHO image. Lots of Ha data here but also a good amount of Oiii as well. Sii showed less data. The first night with Sii resulted in lots of wispy clouds that created a poor stack so I through out 5hrs of Sii data and are-imaged the next night. That data was much cleaner. NGC1499 the California Nebula. Another winter target that I always want to image. Also as a California resident we cannot pass on this one 😂 NGC1499 is an emission nebula located in the constellation Perseus. Its name comes from its resemblance to the outline of the US State of California in long exposure photographs. It is almost 2.5° long on the sky and, because of its very low surface brightness, it is extremely difficult to observe visually. It lies at a distance of about 1,000 light years from Earth. I was planning to create a SHO palette image but there doesn’t seem to be very much Oiii there. This is a Ha and Sii image with Ha in the red channel and Sii in both Green and Blue. Swipe left for a Sii only image. The image doesn’t have the detail I was hoping for but that could due to combination of ASI533MM with RedCat 51. Not an ideal pairing as it is under sampling. NGC 6960 or the Western Veil Nebula and Pickering’s Triangle. The Veil Nebula is a cloud of heated and ionized gas and dust in the constellation Cygnus. It constitutes the visible portions of the Cygnus Loop, a supernova remnant, many portions of which have acquired their own individual names and catalogue identifiers. The source supernova was a star 20 times more massive than the Sun which exploded between 10,000 and 20,000 years ago. At the time of explosion, the supernova would have appeared brighter than Venus in the sky, and visible in daytime. The remnants have since expanded to cover an area of the sky roughly 3 degrees in diameter (about 6 times the diameter, and 36 times the area, of the full Moon). While previous distance estimates have ranged from 1200 to 5800 light-years, a recent determination of 2400 light-years is based on direct astrometric measurements. NGC 7822 is the northern most Emission Nebula in the night sky. This nebula doesn’t have a common name but it is part of the Question Mark Nebula. It’s distance from Earth is around 3,300 Light Years in the constellation of Cepheus. The nebula also contains one of the hottest stars discovered within 1 kpc of the Sun which is an eclipsing binary system consisting of an O5V with a surface temperature of nearly 45000 K and a luminosity approximately 100k times that of our Sun. IC1848 or the Soul Nebula. This is my first true SHO image! I’ve been slowly building up my monochrome kit buying the 533mm earlier this year then adding Antlia filters along the way buying the last filter,Sii, a few weeks ago. I haven’t images this nebula allot in the past. I’ve always been somewhat disappointed with the results with a OSC and duo band filters from my bortle 8-9 skies. Believe it or not, this is over 27hrs of integration. I did 9hrs of Ha with my 4.5nm Ha filter and was very happy with the outcome. I did another 9hrs of Oiii. The single 5min subs barely showed any data and the stacked image wasn’t much better. Very faint nebulosity was present ni where near the detail in Ha. The finally was able to image Sii and I thought the nebulosity would be stronger than it was. Again, the 5min subs barely showed anything and the 9hrs of stacked images was lack luster. I think both the Oiii and the Sii are negatively impacted by bortle 8-9 skies here. Both Oiii and Sii had allot of gradients to deal with while the Ha didn’t have any gradient. M16 the Eagle Nebula. A quick process in PixInsight of the data I collected the other night. Only 17x300 subs for about 1.25hrs of integration. Only Ha data hopefully I can collect some Oiii and Sii over the next few nights. Surprised with the amount of detail that I could tease out base in the integration time. What great about my southern sky is that it faces the ocean so I get darker skies compared to my northeastern skies which face LA. This was fun data to process. I was able to pull out some nice details and dark nebulosity. The second image is a close crop of the Pillars of Creation. M16 the Eagle Nebula Single 5min sub with Ha filter from last night. My view of the southern skies is heavily congested with houses, trees, power pole and wires. Every year I get a small window where I can image M16 for about hour. Only lasts about a week or so. The last few years have been cloudy so no imaging. This year we are in the middle of a massive heat wave in California which can bring clear nights. Last night was one of the nights. Temps in the 80s all night but no clouds. Going all in on monochrome. Added the final narrowband filter, Sii, to my set and a ZWO 2” 7 position filter wheel. I’ve really enjoyed the Antlia 4.5 filters and they have worked well for me so far. I’ve been imaging with the RedCat and ASI533MM in my bortle 8-9 skies and have gotten very good results. First only imaging with my Ha filter then adding the Oiii layer on. Created my first HOO image of the Veil nebula. Finally adding the Sii just now so I can create images in the Hubble SHO palette. I have been successfully using filter drawers during my imaging sessions but as I jump to 3 filters and eventually getting LRGB filters it was time to get the big 7 position filter wheel. I mounted it last night to my RedCat rig only to find out that I don’t have enough clearance with the mount so it will not balance. Also, it would crash into the mount near the meridian. Partial Cygnus Loop in HOO. Working on my first mosaic a 2 panel mosaic of the Cygnus Loop. This is the first completed panel with the Eastern Veil and Pickering’s Triangle. This is a fascinating target that I enjoy shoot every year. The Loop is 6 full moons wide which makes imaging the entire Loop with the ASI533MM Pro and the RedCat 51 but it’s a little too tight. The Cygnus Loop or the Veil Nebula is a supernova remnant in the Cygnus constellation. Rising in the northeast it’s just below the bright star Sadr. Stellar Pinwheel. . I haven't tried for a deep sky object in several months, and Messier 101, the Pinwheel Galaxy, was the wrong one to attempt after that break. Took over an hour to get my mount aligned - still struggling with the alignment process of my #LX85 . The target was already in the Northwest moving more west as the late evening progressed - closer and closer to the Phoenix light dome. And yet, after some serious histogram stretching, I can't help but feel a small sense of accomplishment capturing those faint spiral arms of our distant extragalactic neighbor.
