"Blueberry Cheesecake" This was stretch target for me and I wasn't sure if I was able to image NGC 4725 or it's companion galaxy due to my light pollution here. I thought that I would just get the core and not the outer ring but to my surprise I actually got it lol. It was a nice surprise and you really never know until you give it go. The Legendary ASI071MC Pro I recently acquired 2 OSC cameras and one of which was a collector item for me. I've always wanted an 071 something about a OSC astrocam in APS-C seems elegant and sophisticated. It was also "Cheap" nowadays LOL. Cats or Crocs? Galaxy M94 is controversial for a number of reasons. Sometimes it's called the "Cat's Eye Galaxy" while other times it is referred to as the "Croc's Eye Galaxy" . I like to believe its the cats eye because well CATS!! lol Whatever you call it here is a OSC 4 hour snapshot of it. Its 16 Million light years away and made up of 40 billion stars! Apparently the rotation curve of this Deep sky object suggests that there is no detectable dark matter within. Interesting no? My first standalone Dark Nebula the mesmerizing beauty of Ldn 1622, also known as "the boogeyman nebula." At first glance, it may not seem creepy, but once I started imaging it, I quickly changed my mind. This dark nebula bears an uncanny resemblance to a frightening figure straight out of your worst nightmares. Shot in HS-C, I initially thought there wouldn't be much Oiii presence, but to my pleasant surprise, I discovered what appears to be the start of broadband dust data, thanks to my trusty CLS filter in place of an Oiii filter. Dark nebula are interesting. They can be very cold spots in space absorbing the very starlight that surrounds them. Thick dust clouds of heavy stellar material that are only highlighted by chance of their surroundings. What I find interesting is how bernards loop appears to be interacting with this nebulla. It appears to be highlighting or exciting the dust on the right of the boogeyman giving it a nice glow especially on that side. This mesmerizing nebula appears to be crackalacking with intricate formations within its cosmic embrace. Scientists believe that the stunning shapes and structures are the result of stellar birth and the powerful winds generated by the process. As the stars form, their winds blow the surrounding gas and dust, giving rise to these fascinating and ever-evolving shapes. The mesmerizing Rim Nebula, also known as NGC 6188 Located about 4,000 light years away in the constellation Ara, this emission nebula is truly a sight to behold. On a personal note, I've been spending my winter diving into the world of Pixinsight. It's funny how my transition from Photoshop to PiX never quite clicked, but after working with Siril for a year and then switching to Pixinsight, everything fell into place. π It's like I had a sudden "aha" moment! "Big Bright Goodnight" Something about The Great Orion Nebula is so majestic. I mean it kind of looks like a space hummingbird but it's just so bright and jewel like. "Queens of the Night III" Unintentionally, I made my photo of the Pleiades a multi-year target. This beautiful reflection nebula is located very close to Earth, only 444 light years away. The cluster is filled with hot blue luminous stars that have formed within the last 100 million years. In 2023, I added a luminance channel and captured an additional 30 minutes of exposure time, bringing this photo to a whopping 45 minutes of integration. Shot with a hyperstar c6 at f2 in RGBC. I did it anyway, and boy was it worth it! π·π₯π₯ I spent the last few mornings shooting this beauty with my hyperstar at 3 am in the morning. I made sure to get Alnitak and Alnilam in frame, and let me tell you, the results of only 30 minutes of integration are out of this world! ππ The dark cloud of dust and gas is a region in the Orion molecular cloud complex, where star formation is taking place. Located in the constellation of Orion, it's usually visible in the winter evening sky in the Northern Hemisphere and the summer evening sky in the Southern Hemisphere. But who cares about seasons anyway? π Check out the deep-red color that originates from ionized hydrogen gas (HΞ±) predominantly behind the nebula, and caused by the nearby bright star Sigma Orionis. Magnetic fields channel the gases, leaving the nebula into streams, shown as foreground streaks against the background glow. This saying came to mind when I racked out my Celestron C6 to nearly 1000mm to get close up to the Eagle Nebula. As I edited this one in SHO I started to notice just how much dark nebula there was in it. Black, inky and looks like the eagle is spewing across the cosmos! " Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new" Big, Bright and beautiful Lagoon Nebula near the center of our own galaxy. M8 in my sky is so low It made me wonder if I was taking photos of a bird in a tree! Luckily it was further out like 4000 light years out! At only 6 hours of total exposure in HSO I captured this gentle giant gracefully dancing in the night. Unfortunatly I didn't check my flattener's backspacing on my William Optics Z73 and it was a little off. I haven't used it since I got my C6. It just had the right field of view and it was amazing shooting with the first telescope I had ever purchased. The Nostalgia alone was legendary. "Silver Hufflepuff" Catching up with some end of summer data. Don't you think it's amazing that from our vantage point in space we can look at the center of our own galaxy? A view from 26,ooo light years away from earth π. A wall of dust and gas and yet beyond it lays a supermassive giant where viewed in the right spot time seems to stop. I don't know about you but that's a pretty epic thought. This was a side project of mine and on a second rig while my main scope was out blasting nebula throughout the night. This is a mosaic made of 9 frames in monochrome H-Alpha with only 10 minutes of integration @ F2 @ 85mm. I nearly missed the galactic center cause I got greedy with the lagoon and triffid nebula there. π I even got traces of the dark π I'll be definitely adding to this someday and expanding the scene. Perhaps even making it a color photo. "It's funny that my best collimation came from not" As you know I've been learning how to collimate my first sct. On a suggestion from starizona to simply flatten the hyperstar out and screw it on. I thought to myself it can't be that easy and it actually was. This just over 2 hours In SHO on the Rosette Nebula! 3 x 15 in each filter. "2.5 hours is better than nothing at all" Fall has settled in and the clouds have returned in force! I had 3 hours of clear skies till who knows when lol. Luckily I have a Hyperstar this year and even with its short comings it's come in handy already. Here is 2.5 hours in Sho on NGC1499. 1 hour in HA 1 hour in O3 and 12 minutes in S2. Yes 12 minutes cause the clouds rolled in lol. I was amazed to see that O3 data coming through just a little bit. "Had to try it" Still smokey out here with all the forest fires and such. So seeing conditions are terrible but I couldn't resist trying out my first SCT with a focal reducer at F6.3. Hyperstar is real nice but sometimes you just crave getting in really close to things. Can't wait to try it when transparency gets better but even at bin2 it's real close to getting over sampled. Maybe it's time to think about a 2nd astrocam with better scale. I'll wait for better conditions and see! "Unexpected results are the best..sometimes" Been expirementing at F2 to see what the "minimum" exposure time would be to make a SHO photo. After processing the data I started to notice that faint pink color of Hydrogen alpha all around the Elephant's trunk nebula with lots of dark nebula marbled within. This is only 1 hour in each filter. I was pleasantly surprised to find all this. "I was stoked" Learned lots in this lens test. Obtained the rest of my color data in 3.5 hours which is insane π³ and color mapped in HSO. Not a bad result from a camera lens (Rokinon 85mmF1.4) I'm definitely going capture more data. Just seeing what I could expose around an hour in each filter. "If I hadn't of told you would you have noticed?" Here's my HSO version of the horsehead and flame nebula in Orion for 2021. I finally got some data besides HA. π Still in progress. Anyways when we shoot this target we often stretch it until Alnitak is so bright you can't see it's companion star or at least the star it's nearby. I processed Alnitak separately in another layer then added it to my photo along with the other doublish star directly above the horsehead. "The joys of helping others" I'm the kind of guy that likes to shoot videos no matter what subject. Lately I've had so much fun meeting new people in the hobby and shooting astrophotography product videos. I've enjoyed helping people that got into the hobby after me and most of all Learning from the more experienced. I'm in a humble place right now where it wasn't too long ago I was confused on how astrophotography worked and now learning more advanced concepts from more experienced guys in my second year that no doubt I will pass on myself one day. One thing I can say about this hobby is how much help there is out there from total strangers and I really enjoy my very small part to play in this. This is how all hobbies should be. "Brooke Shields has nothing on this Lagoon, ok maybe she does" I thought I had enough time this year to get a close up shot of the lagoon nebula in narrowband after I shot it super wide. Boy was I wrong. I was only able to get just over an hour of HA then the clouds rolled in for the season. "In life we all get lost but it's the people not the science that leads us back" Here's what gets me about this HSO shot I took of the Triffid and lagoon nebula this past summer. These nebula are so bright they are casting shadows and light onto the surrounding dust clouds in the milky way. Transforming it into a massive space landscape we can see visually but never cross in our lifetime. Oh and I got that quote from Wise Mr Miyagi always imparting wisdom even now in 21. "Kaaa kaaaaaaaa!!" Actually I think eagles make a much cooler speeeeeeeeew sound! Anyways this summer was my first go at the Eagle Nebula. I was super stoked with how much detail I got with my very modest Z73 doublet refractor. Especially how close to the horizon it appeared. Colored mapped in HHO I was able to preserve some colors in the pillars of creation. I also got this cool brick color in the HA regions surrounding them. "What do Astrophotographers do in the winter?" After a year I think I finally answered that question. Last year I lost nearly 2 seasons to clouds and I wasn't about to let that happen this year. I remember how my equipment just sat idle. This summer I just shot multiple targets without editing. Just captured data so I would have something to process and still enjoy the hobby during the cloudy seasons!
